I want to use an old 3 GS iPhone that is no longer in service as a phone now as just an iPod to play music. When I connect the phone to the computer with iTunes running, iTunes says it can't connect to the device because it didn't get a valid response from the device. How can I get the system to recognize the phone, and let me rename it as my iPod, instead of my phone?
As an aside, the current installed operating system on this old iPhone is 4.2.1, but that wasn't one of the selectable options in the operating system list dropdown below. Don't know if that makes any difference.

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match. Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.

If it is WEP, one of the problems is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP. In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa. To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
When you do this, you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted. If this happens, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Which photos are your trying to transfer?
Photo put on the phone by syncing with your computer are still on your computer. You can copy them to your new phone from there.
Photos taken with your phone or copied from emails and website reside in your Camera Roll on your phone. Connect your phone to the computer you normally sync with and start iPhoto if it is a Mac or whatever photo capture application you use with a camera on your pc. iPhoto or the image capture application will allow you to copy the photos to your computer.
Ten sync your new phone to that computer to get those photos you want on the phone copied to the phone.
I always suggest keeping a copy of all your photos on your computer and in at least one other location like and external hard drive or on CD or DVD in case something happens.

Also, Firefox sometimes has font problems that IE doesn't have. If you check your Windows fonts folder, do you see any that are not Outline or TrueType fonts? These sometimes come with printers or Adobe creative products. No need to remove them at this point, but one diagnostic might be to move those out of the Fonts folder temporarily and see whether that helps.

My laptop is running a display at 1366 x 768 resolution and it is hooked up to a separate monitor using the HDMI out to the DVI input. Why am I getting this message and what is the workaround? I don't think that it's right that I have to re-buy the movie in standard definition to to watch it.
Also, as I have a 16 GB iPad, I typically don't have space available to store a 4GB movie but if I download the movie to my laptop and connect my iPad to my laptop, if I free up space will I be able to watch the movie on my iPad 4?

After entering a new ID and password I got in, but now I can't sync the music that was in my original library. When I try to sync a message says that music will be removed from "other" libraries, so I know they're out there somewhere. Just can't get to them. Any ideas?

- Is the computer authorized for the iTunes account(s) used on the iPod?
- Are you syncing or manually managing music?
- In iTunes if you go to Preferences and then go to the Devices tab, what date is show for the iPod backup? Is if before you switched computers?
- Your iPod sees the new computer as a new library/computer and you can only sync to one library. You need to restore you iPod from a backup. If that bacup is hosw in Preferences, restore from that backup.
- If the backup is after you switched computers, you have two options:
--- Try to make a backup by right clicking on the iPd under Devices in iTunes and selecting backup.
--- If you can't make a backu, can you get one from the backup of your old computer. It is located here and yu may have to have show hidden files turned on.
