TS1363 New iTunes Won't Recognize iPhone

So I just updated to the newest iteration of iTunes and immediately wish I hadn't as it no longer recognizes my iPhone (which shows up fine on my computer). Anyone else running into this annoyance, and if so, what are you doing about it?

Hi Hernard,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, this article may help:

  • Itunes won't recognize Iphone but device still charges

Today, I had my Iphone 5c replaced after having issues with the software on my previous iphone 5c. I'm trying to put the data that was on my previous phone back onto my new replacement but Itunes won't recognize my device. I have tried getting the data back on my phone using Icloud but the backup data that is for my Iphone can't be selected as the backup data requires software that is ios 7.1 or later (or something like that). I have selected the option of "set up as new iphone" and just downloaded the software update but I don't know how to get back to the screen that shows the icloud backups.
I have also tried all the recommended things for when the device cannot be detected with itunes (ex. reinstalling itunes, restarting apple mobile device support< ect.)
If you can help with how I can get my itunes to recognize my iphone or how i can set up with icloud after selecting "set up as new iphone" that would be great

Set the phone up as a new phone. Then update the iOS to 7.1. After the update is complete restore your phone from your backup.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPhone 5 after I attempted to download iOS 7

I tried to download iOS 7 and I got an error message and iTunes said the update failed. Since that moment, my phone has shown the iTunes logo with the cable, prompting me to plug my phone into my computer and sync it with iTunes. Conveniently enough however, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone when I plug it in, but it will recognize my iPod touch when I plug that in to the computer. I have restarted my computer, reinstalled iTunes numerous times and yet nothing has worked. So essentially I have no ability to restore my phone and no ability access it in any way shape or form.....any help?!

What version of iTunes are you running?

  • Itunes won't recognize Iphone 3Gs

Itunes won't recognize my new iphone3Gs. I've done everything there is to do except upgrade itunes to 8.2 & can't do that because of error-no access to windows installer. Any help would be appreciated.

    What's the operating system?
    What's the exact error message?
You might be able to download windows installer form the microsoft website and get past that error.

  • Itunes won't recognize iphone 3gs after upgrade to IOS 5

Backup for Iphone on itunes was made on DELL INSPIRON MINI 10 laptop running XP Professional, Thursday evening 10-13-2011.
Upgraded Itunes to new system (ios 5) Friday evening 10-14-2011.
Connected Iphone to laptop Saturday afternoon to sync and upgrade phone to ios 5. after 2 hours phone was wiped clear, and itunes dropped recognition icon from list. several attempts were made to re-sync. all failed, itunes would not recognize. ended up restarting phone and installing upgrade on another computer. Laptop still failed to recognize.
attempted upgrade to Ipod and it locked up on "Disconnect before removing'. opened Itunes dropdown and selected 'Diagose devise' and was able to restore ipod and sync with itunes. afraid to attempt 'diagnose' with iphone, now that it is working.
back-up for iphone still appears on itunes,,,, just can't back it up...XP is unable to 'ICloud' and my DELL Window Vista Home Premium won't install updates so ICloud won't load....

Help please - my computer does not recognize iPhone after upgrading to IOS4 and iTunes 9.2 ---- I have WIndows 7 --- have tried EVERYTHING and still it does not work. I want to do my albums via the computer, not iTunes since it adds the Photo Library folder, which is a duplicate of all my picture folders.
Does anyone have a real solution please? I have uninstalled, installed, deleted drivers, installed drivers - the computer says the drivers are working, but obviously not.
When is Apple going to post the solution so that people will know what to do - seems everyone has an idea, but none are working for me and the extra photo folder frankly drivers me crazy ---- something about iPod cache ----- do not want duplicate pictures.
And, will albums be able to be edited - can these pics not be sent to Facebook.
I know, several topics ----- what a mess Apple has created with IOS4 and iTunes 9.2. Ready to send the phone back!

  • ITunes Won't  Recognize iPhone / Crashes

Since Sept. 28, 2010, I've been unable to sync my iPhone with iTunes on my PC. iTunes exhibits one of the following symptoms: (1) iTunes is very slow to start; recognizes my iPod but not my iPhone; (2) iTunes locks up and crashes after startup; or (3) iTunes won't launch.
I've called Apple tech support, and removed and reinstalled iTunes, Bonjour, QuickTime, and all apple components 3 times. This has not resolved the problem. QuickTime continues to work fine despite problems with iTunes.
In the EventViewer there are problems with Bonjour loading on system startup. I've "disabled" Bonjour at system startup, and reinstalled iTunes, but this has not resolved the problem.
I am not running IOBit's Advanced SystemCare Utility, which has been mentioned as a problem for some on this site. Computer is a Dell Vostro 430 desktop (6 months old), and TrendMicro is my virus software.
Please help. I want to be able to backup my iPhone again.

Good gracious. At 8.24 am on 30 September, you launched iTunes and it did a repair install of itself because a file didn't show up when it checked actually-installed files against the records of what should be on your machine in the iTunes installation database. The file in question is the:
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\RatingFont.png
That usually indicates file or disk damage. And there's been plenty of suggestions of similar sorts of damage in the other error/warning events and attempts to run sfc. So rather than a System Restore, I think we should instead try running a chkdsk over your C drive.
There's instructions in the following document. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r, depending on how you choose to go about it. You'll almost certainly need to reschedule the scan to run on restart. This sort of scan of the C drive should take quite a while ... if the scan stops after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
[How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265]
Does the scan find/repair any damage?
If so, let's do another complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related software, as per the following document. If Windows doesn't let you delete any files or folder, post back to let us know what the error messages say, and which files/folders you're getting them on. (My concern is that other file damage may have interfered with the replacement of program files during previous attempts at uninstall/reinstalls, which is why the problem has persisted past the previous uninstalls and reinstalls.)
[Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925]
If everything repairs/uninstalls/deletes/reinstalls successfully, do your iTunes, BonJour, iPhone, etc, start behaving a bit better for you?

  • Updated 2.2.1 - Now iTunes won't recognize iPhone (and iPhone won't work)

I had this happen last time I did an update too, but that was fixed by going into my control panel and starting my apple mobile device - I checked and this time all is running. I can't use my iPhone and iTunes won't show it's connected even though it is (so can't restore, etc. since it won't recognize the device). I've tried closing out of iTunes and re-connecting the phone - nothing. I'm on PC using 2003 Microsoft software.
    Thanks for any insight.

Sorry, gave the wrong PC info. I'm on XP Professional, version 2002, service pack 3.
    Please help!

  • IPhone 3GS - Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Upgrade; iTunes Won't Recognize iPhone

I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem, or something similar.
Today I purchased Snow Leopard 10.6.3 upgrade and everything went smoothly, but when I decided to plug my iPhone in to transfer some ringtones, my iTunes wouldn't recognize my iPhone. I was thinking it was because of my software upgrade, but I followed all the instructions about this issue that Apple gives but nothing's working.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

There was no separate install disk that came when I purchased my computer. I have gone into Disk Utility and hit the verify button and everything comes up ok. I don't think I've ever hit the repair disk button, though.
The various issues include: freezing at some point while I'm working on the Internet or in mail or using Kodak; the screen 'bleeds' as I scroll through (where the image smears as I scroll); there is an occasional line that shows up on my monitor, but usually goes away if I close an app like Mail or if I restart the computer.
I did add RAM in accordance with the instructions on the apple website and my computer was running great after that...no freezing and it was running so much faster. Prior to adding the RAM and having my drive wiped clean at the Genius Bar, it was really bad. I was constantly having to shut off the computer and turn it back on because it was constantly freezing or the screen would just go black as if it had shut off, though it was still on. They could not find anything wrong with the computer that would cause it to have those issues and that's why they decided to wipe it clean and load Leopard. Of course, that gave me a new host of issues, but it seemed to resolve once I upgraded the version of Leopard they put on.
Should I still do the repair disk?
And yes, the computer is working. Of course, I'm still on Leopard and not Snow Leopard...I don't know what happened with that.

  • ITunes won't recognize iphone apps

I went to update some apps through iTunes (USB) with OS-X 10.9.5 to iPhone 5s with IOS 8 and it sees the apps but won't let me make changes to them. I can't remove, install or move apps. I've rebooted the Mac and the iPhone and nothing helps. The Console window is full of iTunes mesages about "Failed to create replacement string" which I doubt means much with the iPhone. Any suggestions to get iTunes to recognize the apps to make changes?

I take it back. The problem persists. I've used the same setup as the iPad Air also on IOS 8 and it works fine, but not the iPhone. There is a problem in IOS on the iPhone with iTunes or with iTunes connecting to the iPhone.

  • Update failed. Now iTunes won't recognize iPhone.

I connected my iPhone 4s to my computer, and iTunes prompted me to update my iphone. I initiated the update and awhile later the update failed and now my phone only shows a picture of the phone's cable with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo. Whenever I plug it in, iTunes does not recognize it. I have gone throught the basic fixes suggested, but the issue remains. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, I have restarted Apple Mobile Support, I have reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. I don't know what else to do.
    I am using Windows 7.

I really wasn't sure what on my computer was causing the problem, but I just used another computer whose iTunes recognized my phone, was able to restore it to factory settings, and then my computer's iTunes recognized it once it was no longer in recovery mode, and I was able to return my iphone to normal with a previous backup.
    Thanks for trying to help.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPhone after swapping At&t SIM cards

I had an old At&t phone that was dead that I wanted to import the contacts on its SIM card into my iPhone. First I just popped out my current SIM card and placed the old one into my iPhone. Before I imported the contacts to my iPhone I connected to my Mac, and iTunes did not recognize the phone. I did the phone reset and restarted the computer to no avail. I put my current SIM card back into the phone and did all the same things and still nothing. After that, I followed the instructions on this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747?viewlocale=en_US
That worked. So I then backed up my iPhone since it was acting screwy, and then popped out the SIM card and put the older SIM card in and imported the contacts. When I tried to connect my phone, it did not recognize again. I re-did every single step that I listed above multiple times and no luck. I went into the phone's control panel and just did a total wipe/reset. When my phone gave me the iTunes logo and USB image telling me to connect to iTunes to activate, iTunes still didn't recognize the phone. I uninstalled iTunes several times and have repaired permissions just for grins and still I can't get iTunes to recognize my phone. What gives??

What version of iTunes are you running?

  • ITunes won't recognize IPHONE after new computer loaded from TM...

    Hey all:
I had an unfortunate meltdown of my reliable 5 year old macbook and the logic board fried; luckily I was able to save the HD and when I bought my new macbook pro (wow, what an upgrade) and loaded it from the drive via 'transfer' on initialization, my ITUNES could no longer recognize either my IPHONE or my IPAD; I can still see the backups in the preference pane, but have been unable to have ITUNES acknowledge their presence. Any idea? Thanks
    Ger

Additional details. I plugged in my phone, it was recognized and syncing as expected, but was stuck. After about 30 minutes I stopped the sych. That is when my problems occurred a few days ago. I have rebooted, re-installed, followed the directions on apple support - including the 6 step uninstall and the stuff following msconfig.

  • Itunes won't recognize IPhone

The iPhone is recognized by the USB and the device manager but it won't show up in iTunes. I have uninstalled and re-installed itunes and quicktime multiple times, rebooted, logged on as a different user..seriously, I have tried everything - including spending 3 hours on the phone with Apple support.
Is anyone going through this? Any ideas?
    Thanks!
PC user soon switching to a MAC!!

Sounds like you have a bug, you have to delete this special icon in your HD... I cant remember the name of it, but anyway Apple will tell you for free, do that & deleted Itunes, no need to delete Q.T. because it will be included with your new download. Once all this is done it should work.
