  • Windows recognizes iPod, but not iTunes or iPod updater, causes freezing

I'm having some issues with my 60GB iPod Photo. I tried to store my friend's music on my iPod as files. Upon uploading them to my own computer, some files caused freezing, requiring me to disconnect and reconnect the iPod. I finally gave up and deleted all the files stored on my iPod. All of a sudden, although Windows XP Pro recognized that an iPod was plugged in, it would no longer open iTunes automatically. When opening iTunes once the iPod was plugged in, it would cause iTunes to freeze.
I decided to restore my iPod. About halfway through, there was an error message saying my iPod could not be restored. All songs were deleted but my iPod was still not recognized. Now, the iPod updater does not recognize that in iPod is connected, even though Windows does. The updater freezes, inhibiting me from completing my restore. iTunes freezes as well when my iPod is plugged in. My iPod displays "update in progress - do not disconnect," but nothing happens. When my iPod is not connected to the computer, I can navigate through it normally, although it does need to be unfrozen when left unused for a couple of days. I cannot tell if it plays files because they were all removed during my unsuccessful restore.
I have tried reinstalling all my iPod related software and I have tried my iPod on more than one computer with different USB cables, but nothing works.
    Help, please!

  • Help, Windows recognizes ipod but itunes doesn't

ive tried everything that ive seen listed but nothing seems to work. My issue is that Windows recognizes ipod but itunes doesn't. I would really apprecaite it if someone could help me with this issue.

  • Showing in iPod but not iTunes

I recently received an iPod Touch and it's been working great so far. My primary use of it is to listen to podcasts on my way to work and home. All of them are downloaded from iTunes and transfered while syncing. The other day I somehow managed to have a "stranded" podcast on my iPod - it appears on the iPod, but not in iTunes so I am unable to remove it now that I've listened to it.
Any way to manage the music/podcasts that appear on the iPod but not in iTunes?

No problem. Have fun with your iPod.

  • Keep songs on the ipod, but not itunes

How do I keep stuff on my ipod, but not on my computer?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You will need to enable manual updating...
    Transfer music manually
Now, when you delete songs from your computer, they will stay on your iPod.

  • ITunes recognizes iPod but not music

Since I downloaded iTunes 7.3.0.54, it recognizes my iPod but does not show any music. However, it shows that the iPod disk space is 3/4 full but it's classified as "other data." Is there any other way to get that music to appear? I'm trying to avoid doing a restore if at all possible.

I had this same problem and just got off the phone with Apple Support. She told me that I'm out of luck, I should have backed all my files up. Music, photos, whatever. gone. She explained to me its like a mini computer and these things happen. It doesn't matter what generation of ipod you have. So now I have to start from the beginning and will now archive all files. I know this is not the news you wanted to hear but maybe you can sleep tonight!

  • Help! pc recognizes ipod but not software

I just had my 20 gb ipod replaced with a 20gb color display ipod. Best buy did not give me the software disc according to their "warranty". I used my original disc to download the software, and updated it by using the free download on the apple website. I now have itunes 5.0 and when I connect my ipod to the computer a window pops up saying that it recognizes the ipod, but that the computer doesn't have the software and to download it from their website or the installation disc. I need help! Please anyone who knows how to fix this

  • Windows recognizes iPod but it doesn’t charge

    Hi, can anyone help me?
When I connect the iPod the PC recognizes it and starts to synchronize with iTunes, but the charging icon appears full with a lighting bolt and it is not animated. After a while the when the battery is low, the iPod turns off and the synchronization is interrupted.
Also if I eject the iPod but without disconnect it from the USB, the charging icon looks unanimated.
I have used this USB port with other iPods without problems.
    Thank you

Do you know if the older units can charge with USB 2.0?
1G and 2G models can't talk USB at all. Firewire only, period.
3G models cannot charge with USB. They require Firewire to charge. 3G models can communicate via USB cables, but they need Firewire for power. A dual cable exists to let you plug it into USB for talking and the Firewire AC plug for charging at the same time.
4G's and Mini's can charge off both USB or Firewire ports. Although USB doesn't put out as much power as Firewire, so they may have fairly minor issues along these lines sometimes. Takes longer to charge, battery might wear down even though it's charging because of large disk use, etc. Those 3G dual cables will work on these units too, to prevent these problems.
Nano's and Shuffles charge only from USB ports. They don't support Firewire at all.

  • USB1 Recognizes iPod But Not USB2

    Hi,
I have a Dell laptop with WindowsXP installed. As far as I know my USB2 ports are all properly configured and working correctly. But, for some reason, when my USB2 is enabled, my computer doesn't recognize my (4thGen) iPod.
In order to update the iPod, I have to first disable my USB2, then everything works fine, albeit, at a much slower pave than USB2 (obviously.)\
Has anyone else had this similar problem? And, if so, any answers as to how to correct it?
    Thanks!

I was milling around some other posts and tried all the suggestions I could find pertaining to this general issue (changing drive letter of iPod; removing all the USB ports, then re-starting the laptop; purchased an external powered USB2 hub; etc. - all to no avail.
I'm now wondering if, perhaps, this might be a hardware issue, perhaps some type of conflict pertaining to the manufacturer of my USB2 Controller? ( Intel(R)82801/FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller -265C )
    HECK, I DON'T KNOW! :>)
Again, everything is fine and dandy if I disable the USB2 controller (above), then update, etc. the iPOd in the USB1-mode, but not OK when the USB2 is enabled.

There are couples of issues here, let answer one by one .
    For Cemil ..
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
For folder of an exclmation mark
Press "Select"+"Play" keys and put it in Disk Mode and plug it back with your PC, open the iPod updater and click RESTORE.
If still can't get your iPod recognized (I copy it from MarkJones)
    1. Quit iTunes
    2. Open the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-Delete)
    3. Click the Processes tab
    4. Locate the following processes (if they're present), and end them:
    -iPodService.exe
    -iTunesHelper.exe
    -iTunes.exe
    5. Restart iTunes

  • Windows recognizes iPod Nano, Updater/iTunes does not.

I'm sure this question's been brought up, but how do I get my computer's iTunes/iPod Updater to recognize my iPod? I've tried resetting/reconnecting/rebooting/reinstalling numerous times, and I've got a 2.0 USB Port.
The thing that irks me is that my other computer recognizes my iPod Nano in the Updater/iTunes while this one doesn't. However, that one's old and doesn't have any music, thus I need this one to work.
    They're both Windows XP.
    Thanks in advance.

I also had the problem of iTunes not recognizing my iPod nano, but it worked on my dad's comp, but I figured it out today. If the iPod is appearing in My Computer, make sure it doesn't have the same drive letter as any other drive(esp. C). If it has the same letter, change the letter by going to control panel -> administrative tools ->computer management ->disk management -> right click on drive of iPod(have plugged in so you know which drive to select)->click "change drive letter and paths" -> I'm not sure if it matters what letter you chose, I was told to choose a letter such as "M" or lower.
Hope this works for you all...I know how frustrating it is to not have the iPod work!

  • Windows Vista recognizes iPod but not iPad...

Windows Vista (with latest service pack; 32-bit) will not recognize my iPad. It was able to before and my last iPad backup in my iTunes is dated back to March. However, now, when I plug my iPad in, it does not recognize it and does not even show up on the disc drives. I have gone through the numerous methoeds that Apple (and others) suggested including reinstalling iTunes, reinstalling the Apple Mobile Device Drivers, restarting my computer using msconfig, etc.
To test out whether it was an Apple driver on my computer or not, I inserted my Gen 6 iPod Classic and it recognized it with no problem. If you know how to solve this, please let me know.
    Thank You,

  • Windows recognizes iPod but iTunes doesn't

Okay, so, on my computer, I open up iTunes and it loads up and runs fine. However, when I plug my iPod in, iTunes freezes up and doesn't let me do anything. My iPod will charge but it won't sync. When I do plug it in, an explored window opens up saying that I have connected a camera and it gives me options of what I want to do. When I unplug my iPod, iTunes is still frozen up, and the process is not responding. Does anybody know how to fox my problem?
