TS1365 MacBook Pro 2012 suddenly won't power up

My mid 2012 MacBook Pro just developed a strange power problem, won't power up at all. None of TS1365 above helps. The magsafe adaptor works fine on another Macbook. On the new MBP the green light slowly dims, and there are no lights showing at all for the battery when its button is depressed. Is this an Apple Store visit required?

8. If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

  • Why Does Retina MacBook Pro (2012) Suddenly Hibernate With Lid Open?

I'd like to know why my Retina MacBook Pro (2012) at certain times suddenly go into Hibernate mode when I'm actively using it with the lid open and what I can do to prevent this.
I know this is hibernate because of what I see in the Console logs and the fact that I can't trigger a wake by using the keyboard/trackpad/mouse.  Only the power button causes it to wake up.
This usually happens when I wake it from sleep and plug it into an external monitor via HDMI to HDMI connection.   The lid is open and I use both displays.    This happens about 30 seconds to a minute after I wake from sleep.  At the time I'm not plugged into the power supply because I believe it's generally a good idea to let the batter drain and the recharge it.  The last time this happened it was about 35% to 40% charged.

This happened again at about 31% power, again unplugged.   Previously, I had plugged in the power before pressing the power button, but this time I pressed the power button before plugging in.  The display showed me the out of power icon.  Only on plugging it back in was I able to power up the laptop again.
Is it possible there's a bug either with the displayed power or how remaining power is detected?

  • Macbook Pro 2012 Retina Won't Start, burnt power pins on power port, digital artist dead in the water

After a year of owning my macbook pro late 2012 retina model, it started having difficulty charging, it wouldn't charge even when green on the magsafe, and had difficulty turning orange, basically right after the 1 year warranty was over by one month, I went into the apple store and they told me that I simply needed to replace the power adapter and cord and it would be fine, but that it most likely was caused by me plugging it into a power strip, and that I had to plug it directly into the wall in its own power slot, which they never said that was what you were supposed to do when I purchased the laptop and could not find it anywhere in the literature. It was fine in the store for the apple worker, but after even just a few months I had to to constantly twist and unplug and replug the magsafe adapter from different angles just to get it to work, and it was like a living ****, as I am a digital artist and my wacom tablet will not work until my macbook pro is charging and the magsafe is orange, so everyday I would waste 30 minutes to an hour with the finicky magsafe, until recently my macbook pro will not turn on at all.
Since the problem arose after warranty I had to pay out of pocket for the replacement magesafe cord, which was a temporary solution, I pointed out that the magsafe power port on the laptop itself also had burn marks just like the magsafe cord that had a few pins pushed in and was slightly blackened but the attendant ignored that and said it was fine and just swapped out the cord. The "genius" attendant claimed if I just plugged in the macbook pro directly into the wall, everything would be fine and back to normal, and I did just that, I never plugged it into a power strip ever again, and still we arrive to my current predicament.
I believe I have to repair the actual power port the magsafe plugs into on the laptop, and get a new magsafe cord all over again, but it will be much more expensive than simply swapping out a cord this time, and I don't think the reason this happened to begin with has been truly identified, and I'm worried I have to make this repair every year, and I can't afford this kind of planned obsolescence, and I thought I was getting the best laptop in the world, and it was, everything was perfect not one single problem, except for this power issue, which now won't even allow me to use the computer at all and is now a giant paper weight, and leaves a dirty taste in my mouth when it comes to apple products.
I live in San Francisco in a house that was built around 1910 and don't know much about what or when renovations were made for power, but I have a feeling some kind of incorrect voltage is happening, and I was never instructed on this, and every other macbook is fine, my roommates have earlier models like the 2007 and 2009 MacBooks and have no problem like mine.
    Please help me

I don't understand why and how the red light in the audio jack is still on while the computer is totally off, not connected to any power source and the battery seems to be empty... how is taht possible?
Because the battery is not empty, something is messed up, likley the SMC.
All I can advise is doing a SMC Reset, which resets the power firmware in case it got messed up and hopefully that will charge the battery up like normal.
If you can't do it or it doesn't work tommorow after charging up (turned off) overnight then just take it to Apple.

  • Macbook Pro Late 2007 Won't Power On

My Macbook Pro's battery has been going for a while. It's needed to be plugged in to operate for at least a year. I shut it down last night. This morning, I tried to power on while plugged into wall, and the light on the Clamshell opener on the front will only flash while I'm holding down the button. I can hear the hard drive whirring, but when I let go of the button, everything shuts down. If I continue to hold the button, after about fifteen seconds the Clamshell light begins flickering and everything shuts off.
I've removed and reinserted the battery, checked battery status with button on bottom (all four green lights light up) checked the adapter for debris and damaged pins, unplugged from wall and replugged in two minutes later, and nothing seems to work.
Is this battery totally shot, or is there something seriously wrong with the machine? I've got a lot of stuff that I can't lose on that machine, so I'm hoping the hard drive isn't fried and, worst case scenario, if the machine is dead, I can get what I need off the hard drive and put on a different machine.
Anyone else seen anything like this before?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just guessing, but the flashing light may be an indicater that your RAM is bad or not being seen.

Try reseating the RAM. If it's third-party RAM and you still have the original Apple RAM, try the Apple RAM. If your computer doesn't see any RAM, it won't start.
Chances are your hard drive and data are OK since you can hear the drive spin up.
Here is another article which may be of help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1365
Whenever you get back up and running, buy an external drive and make a backup and keep it up to date. Otherwise you are at risk of losing everything if your drive does fail.
    Good luck!

  • My macbook pro (late 08) won't power on

    Greetings,
I've been searching around in the forums and didn't find anyone with the same problem that have had this issue solved.
The problem started about a month ago when i accidently left the computer running out of battery during the night. The day after there was no response whatsoever, tried resetting the SMC which did help so i didn't really think of it anymore except as clumsy as i am only 2 days later the same thing occurs. Which then turned out to be a little bit of an issue becasue now a SMC reset didn't help... but after 6-7 resets and about ten minutes later it did however come back to life.
the third time it happened it took me almost an hour of resetting the SMC and it turned on again. Now i've been traveling alot and without any power to be seen on my flights of course it happened again. But now I just cannot be as stubborn any longer since I've been trying to get it alive now for several hours.
The issue I have is that the computer gives no response at all when pressing the power button and it's clearly something that has gotten worse since it is now the fourth time and every single time the duration has increased.
This is the late 2008 15" model can't say the serial no though. But I haven't done any changes in hardware since the issues started.
I get a feeling that people will say to turn it in to an apple store and have it checked out. Just wanted to see if someone have had this issue and had it resolved somehow and if it's a possibility that it's fixable by myself since I'm just a poor student with my beloved almost 6 year old laptop that has been through more stuff than most people even.
EDIT: I've tried booting without battery and with, and also with and without the powercord as well.
    Kind Regards
    Simon

I'm not sure it's worth it to be honest.
It's possibly something to do with the logic board and as it is way out of warranty it's not going to be cost effective to repair.
I'll give it one more go tonight and if not I'll get an insurance claim and replace it with a brand spanking new one. I'm trying to find my other battery just to see if the battery is at fault. It has been reading check for a while.
The other problem is that New Zealand doesn't have Apple Retail stores therefore getting a Genius to look at it isn't possible.
As awesome as Apple's support desk is I'm not too sure if they can do anything over the phone.
Oh well, a new MacBook Pro isn't the end of the world.

Reset the SMC by holding Shift-Control-Option and pressing the power button while it is plugged in. Then try turning it on normally. Otherwise take it to Apple and get them to repair it.

  • Wifi-Airpot keeps disconnecting Macbook Pro 2012

Hello everyone, my new Macbook Pro 2012 (10.7.3) keeps desconecting from the wifi. It won't show it is discinected on the wifi icon but it will just not go anywhere on the internet. I have to go to the wifi turn airport off wait 10 sec and turn back on, this will make it work again, 30 min later I have to do the same!!
Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?
    Thanks
    PS: The computer is updated.

    Ohh no.  NOT AT&T!!!!
I absolutely HATE, HATE, HATE networking problems with AT&T.  Either their sh!ty ancient PPPoE never works, or it's their wacky non-compatible modems, or it's alwasy something with them.
    Arggg...
Ok, we can try, but I am warning you... it's never easy in my experience with this ISP.
First of all, can you plug the etherent from the MODEM directly into your new computer, and see if that works? If it doesn't work, power-cycle the modem and your computer and see if that works.
    Let me know...

  • How can I fix my Superdrive slot on my MacBook Pro 2012?

I installed a brand new SSD in my MacBook Pro 2012 yesterday. To do this, I cloned my [then] existing HDD to it using SuperDuper!. Now, my DVD slot won't accept discs. I tried opening DVD player and it said that "a valid DVD drive could not be found". I plugged in my old HDD and booted up from that, and tried again, but to no avail. Is this something wrong with my Superdrive or something? Or is my OS corrupt? Could my Superdrive be burnt out?

Uh oh, and that even before the warranty is over...
If I were you (well... not really...), I'd pick my MBP from here, then do as if I were to replace "everything optical drive and cable" -- except I'd replace the existing gear with itself. Slowly, step by step, and veeeery carefully.
If it doesn't work then, maybe the next AASP isn't that far away, at least.

  • My MacBook Pro will suddenly quit while I'm working on it and restarts itself.

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion with a 27-inch Apple Cinema Display connected to it that I use at work. I am an art director so I am constantly in Adobe Creative Suite 6. In the past month my MacBook Pro has suddenly quit on me while working and restarts itself TWICE. This time I was listening to a downloaded album on iTunes and the music started to skip right before the computer crashed and restarted itself. Has anyone ever experienced this before? It doesn't freeze up or anything like that, it will just unexpectedly go into Restart mode & the computer restarts. Everything is fine once it restarts but I am wondering if I should be concerned or if someone might know of a repair solution I could do on the computer. Should I run Disk Utilites to see if their is an issue? Would appreciate any comments and suggestions and feel free to ask may any question. THANKS!!

Apple has a rebuy and recycle program, but you won't get much for your old MBP from that program. Your best bet is to just sell it yourself (I used eBay) and use the money you get to buy your new computer.
