TS1365 My MacBook Pro won't reboot on my optical drive eventhough i press "C" during start?

I tried to reboot on my optical drive by pressing "C" on restar but would appear apple logo nd just freezes it there. I have parallel 8 with windows 8 on my MacBookPro.

That would mean that either the media can't be read withour error, or the system contained therein is incompatible with your Mac.
For example, I own a Snow Leopard upgrade box I bought when that cat came out. It contains a 10.6.0 system. However, my current Mac tries to boot from it and doesn't get past a white screen like you describe. It appears I would need a 10.6.5 or so as a minimum OS for it to boot, given my Mac's firmware.
If feasible, try booting off the media in another Mac.

  • MacBook Pro won't reboot.  Get spinning circle even after hard drive replaced at Apple Store

MacBook Pro won't reboot.  Have to reinstall OSX each time I shut down in order to get it to start up.  What could be wrong?  I had the hard drive replaced already.

You shouldn't be using the disc at all. I thought I had made that clear. Boot from your recovery partition and run Disc Utility. If you get the same result -- the internal drive can't be repaired -- then you should consider replacing it. No storage device can be trusted, in my opinion, after throwing an error like that. But whether you choose to replace it or erase it, you have to get the data out first.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from your recovery partition (10.7 or later), a local Time Machine backup volume (10.7.2 or later), or your installation disc (10.6.8 or earlier.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”

    2. If you have a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive.

    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

Start up Disk full and MacBook Pro won't reboot.  Only white screen but can sleep, restart, shut down.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hold the shift key down at the sound of the chime, release when the progress bar appears) Safe Mode will take longer to boot than normal.

MacBook Pro won't boot after trying to install 10.7.3 update. Start up stalls at Apple logo and spinning gear. Computer won't even start in safe mode.

My daughter's MacBook Pro was doing exactly the same thing.  I don't know if it had anything to do with the latest update.  She called me about a week ago saying that her MacBook began running slower by the day .  She then called me Friday and told me that it wouldn't get past the gray screen and the gear just kept on spinning.  I did everything I could over the phone including Safe mode which it wouldn't go into and thought maybe it was the hard drive.  She took it to the Apple store.  Originally, they also thought it was the hard drive.  It ended up being a corrupted operating system (Lion).  Apple genius simply re-installed Lion and she's back up and running.  Good thing she backed up right before it crapped out.  She'll be restoring everything tonight.  Don't know if re-installing Lion will help your situation, but it did the trick for my daughter.

Lion only runs on Intel based systems which have to be core2duo. with a minimum of 2GB RAM.
If these is given on your system, in most cases it comes from running old PPC-Applications which are not longer supported since Lion.
Try to start your MB in "Safe Mode" by holding option key (alt) imediately after first chime and disable / delete this applications.

  • MacBook Pro won't reboot after Lion update

I have updated my new MacBook Pro (2.3GHz I7 15"), and everything seemed to be working fine.  Something was chugging away at the system resources when I was away from my computer and when I came back, I decided to reboot the system.
Now all that will happen is boot up to the Apple logo and spin the little grey circle, for an hour!  I don't know what to do, help my computer is useless!
I have booted into the recovery partition and repaired permissions, but it did not help.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • MACBOOK PRO / WON'T REBOOT / AFTER AUTOMATIC MAC UPDATE 06.FEB.2013

I am using Macbook Pro Mid 2010 with OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
JUST RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION THAT APP STORE DID SOME UPDATE SO MAC NEEDS TO RESTART.
    I CLICKED "YES".
NEXT THING I KNOW IS THAT IT IS UPDATING/INSTALLING, AND IT ATTEMPTS TO REBOOT. BUT IT DOESN'T.
ACTUALLY IT SHOWS THE USUAL START UP WHITE/OFF-WHITE COLOR SCREEN WITH THE APPLE LOGO IN THE MIDDLE, AND THERE IS A "DOWNLOAD/INSTALL HORIZONTAL BAR". IT "SHADES/DONE" AROUND 20% AND THEN THE MAC GOES OFF. BLACK SCREEN. SWITCHES OFF.
I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES. BUT RESULT IS BAD. NO LUCK.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WAS THIS UPDATE. I WAS TIRED SO I DIDN'T PAY ANY ATTENTION.
    PLEASE HELP.
    P.S.
I HAVE SOME IMPORTANT DOC,S AND DIDN'T BACKUP (TIME-MACHINE) FROM LAST 25 DAYS

Gray progress bar appears under Apple logo during startup
If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup) or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”

Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.

  • What keyboard shortcuts can I use when my 15" MacBook Pro won't reboot and i have a black screen

I have a refurbished 15" MacBook Pro. There have been several times when I turn off

  • Macbook pro won't reboot - what now?

My macbook pro is about 5 years old.  Runs OSX 10.5.7 I believe.  Hard drive has been racing on occasion, but it still worked.  At least until today.  I can't get it to reboot.  Light turns on indicating its running, but screen remains blank and normal rebooting sound does not exist.  What do I do?
Having to compose this on husband's PC.....gag.

When exactly did you buy it?
There was a series of MBPs that had bad video cards. They were produced in the end of 2007 to early 2008.
If just the hard drive died then you would still see something on the screen. Since you say all you see is the lights come on but nothing on the screen the drive might still be good, or usable, but something else in the computer is bad. Like the video card. To bad as the recall/repair for these systems with the bad video card only lasted for 4 years from Date Of Purchase.
It will cost you just as much, or close to, the cost of a new unit to fix the one you have. So run out and buy a new Mac so you don't have to use your husbands PC.
This response ws typed on a Dell i8200 that is 9+ years old and still running fine.

  • TS1365 My macbook pro won't turn on

My macbook pro will not turn on. It was working normally and then I left for about half-an-hour to eat dinner. When I got back and pressed the power button (because I thought it'd just gone to sleep) nothing happens. I've tried pushing to power button a bunch of times but it doesn't do anything. I can hear the computer running though. It's also fully charged. I dont' know what's wrong with it.

    according to the article
"If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only)."

  • MacBook Pro won't boot with new hard drive, but a different MacBook Pro will

So here are the details. My friend and I both have 13-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro's. Same processor and specs since they were purchased at the same time, but originally had 250 GB hard drives. His hard drive failed and needed a new one. Put a 500 GB Seagate Momentus 5400.6 in his computer, and tried using a flash drive with "Install OS X Mavericks" on it to install Mavericks on his new hard drive. No matter what, it wouldn't install. I finally was able to install OS X 10.9.4 on it by connecting the new hard drive to my computer with a USB hard drive enclosure. I put the hard drive back inside his computer and it wouldn't boot (stuck on the gray screen with apple logo and a spinning wheel). I then attached to the hard drive to his computer externally with the USB enclosure, and then it booted and worked perfectly.
So, it seemed like the problem was with something inside his computer, but then I switched our drives, and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I put my original hard drive into his computer, and his new hard drive into my computer, and they both booted and worked perfectly, so I have no idea why his computer will not boot with the new hard drive internally.
To summarize, his computer boots with: 1) new hard drive connected externally (won't work if it's internal), and 2) my hard drive internally
but my computer boots with: 1) new hard drive connected externally AND internally, and 2) my hard drive internally.
Both hard drives have OS X 10.9.4 installed
If anyone has any idea what's causing this and how to make his computer work with the new hard drive internally that would be greatly appreciated.

So after switching the internal SATA cables from each computer, now we have
His computer, with my SATA cable:
    1) Worked with every hard drive!
My computer, with his SATA cable:
    1) Works with 1 TB Toshiba hard drive
    2) Works with 500 GB Seagate hard drive
    3) Works with my original hard drive
    4) Flashing folder with question mark with his old hard drive
So it turns out you were right! Definitely had something to do with the SATA cables. But it's still strange that mine was able to boot with all the hard drives except the one that was originally in his. So it seems like it was some combination of his SATA cable and something else, since when his SATA cable was in his computer only 1 hard drive (my original) worked, and when it was in my computer, 3 hard drives worked. But at least its working, and I'm just gonna keep our SATA cables switched since that seems to work out fine

  • Macbook pro won't recognise WD External hard drive

Have just purchased a macbook pro and it won't recognise my Western Digital external hard drive!!
It appears as 'Time Machine Backups' and doesn't show all my photos and music files. (deleting and reformatting WD hard drive not an option)

  • MacBook Pro won't boot, even using flash drive with OS

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro that won't boot up past the gray screen.
I connected it via Firewire to my iMac and the hard drive showed up without any problem.
I ran DiskWarrior on the drive and rebuilt it. That didn't resolve the issue.
I zeroed out the hard drive and tried to reinstall the operating system. My DVD drive no longer works so I created a bootable flash drive from the OS disc but when I try to boot that I get a screen with a checkerboard line down the middle (see image).
Any idea what this could be?

Could be a failing GPU/logicboard as you said the HD checked out.
Take it in to an Apple Genius for a full diagnostic, they wil diagnose it for free, then give you your options. (make an appointment)l

  • Macbook Pro won't book from USB flash drive

I have a brand new Macbook Pro with the thunderbolt.  The internal hard drive works great and I can boot up from it just fine.  But we want to create an image on a USB flash drive that we can use when troubleshooting the other Macbook Pro's we have at the office.  So I got a 16 gb flash drive which should be big enough.  I ran the white Snow Leopard DVD and tried to put the OS on the USB flash drive.  When it tried to reboot on the Macbook Pro it got the error screen which some weird code and said that you computer needs to be restarted.  As long as the USB flash drive was connected it wouldn't boot.
So I wanted to see if this was hardware specific so I tried it on an IMac.  I was able to create a OS X bootable USB Flash Drive and was able to boot the IMac with it with no trouble.  Having gotten ti to work on the IMac I tried it again on the Macbook Pro, still get the error screen when it tries to boot up.
Is there anything special I need to do to get this to work?  It's crucial to our organization to get this to work.  Thanks.

    Hi R,
You can always book it with you agent, don't you?
Ok, sorry for that, getting on. Try to use Carbon Copy Cloner to create the copy.
The issue can be related to USB devices and/or connectors, did you try other USB port? Do you have the same boot problem with other USB devices? The active USB connection preventing boot are frequently seen.
    Good luck, K.
