  • MacBook won't turn on--at all

    Hi All,
My MacBook is less than 24 hours old. This afternoon, I booted it up, transferred the files from my iBook, and began downloading the latest software updates. I left briefly to eat dinner, and when I came back, the screen was black, the computer silent, and the LED on continuously. I pushed the power button, and the LED turned off. I pushed it again, and the hard-drive started spinning like it was working normally, but the computer didn't turn on (screen is still black). I've now followed all the steps to get the computer to turn on in the troubleshooting guide, and the screen is still black. I inserted the OSX CD into the drive to reinstall the software, and while the drive sounds like it is working well, the screen continues to be black, and the CD now won't eject. I tried adjusting the brightness, and the battery is fully charged.
Anyone know what happened and how I can fix this?
    Thanks.

-You have to zap the ram sometimes the ram crashes and it wont turn un, it happened to me, what you need to do, is to turn it off pressing the power button for at least 6 secs, then press the  key and the "alt option" hey
at the same time press the "p" and "R" keys
then while pressing this buttons, turn it on
    and automatically will restart normally

  • Macbook won't turn on all the way.  Please help.

Macbook won't turn on all the way.  At first it only showed the grey apple logo, but now it says that I need to restart the computer by holding down the power button for several seconds or pressing the restart button.  I tried this already but it's not doing anything.  Please help.

    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • How do i transfer data from my old macbook 13" 2008 to my new macbook pro 13" but my old macbook won't turn on

hello! i went to the Genius Bar and they told me my logic board needed to be replaced on my old white macbook 13". however, i need to get my data and information from my old macbook but my old macbook won't turn on. i was told by Genius Bar that the hard drive could be accessed via the 3 screws when the battery was removed and the hard drive could be turned into a external hard drive once removed. that way i could transfer my music, movies, pictures, etc. they told me that Best Buy could do the data transfer for me. i went to Geek Squad but they told me the hard drive wasn't accessable behind those 3 screws, that the ram was there instead. i just want to transfer my data. please help!

Your Geek Squad wasn't very geeky. the hard drive is right next to the RAM.
    Here's the three screws
Here's the hard drive tab that pulls the hard drive out.
Here's the hard drive out and you can see the RAM in it's slots.

  • TS1365 Macbook won't turn on, I read the troubleshooting article

I have a macbook pro that started shutting down on it's on last night while it was plugged in.  After shutting it down for the night, this morning it won't turn on at all.  The battery has a charge, I used the indicator on the battery itself and 3 lights light up so even if the charger is damaged it shouldn't matter since the battery has a charge right?
My guess is whatever sends the charge to the computer isn't sending or receiving it.  I have a damaged headphone port so I was planning on swapping out a new logicboard anyway but my question is could the logic board have anything to do with this problem?  If so then the swap I was going to do will solve it anyway but if not then I guess I have to repair another part.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Rene

I just can't believe that small amount of liquid could ruin my macbook
The traces (copper connections) on the logic boards are pretty close together.  It wouldn't take much to short two critical points out.
I  hope putting it away for a few days (maybe in the warm sun) works for you.  Because that is all I would have suggested.

  • MacBook Pro won't turn on at all.

I have a 13" MacBook Pro Retina (Late 2012) running OS X Yosemite beta 3 that won't turn on at all.
I imported a  few pictures from an SD card to iPhoto and then closed the lid when it finished.
A few hours later, I opened the lid and the screen didn't turn on.
It's been like this for almost a week now (6 days).
Pressing the power button doesn't do anything and I've tried resetting the SMC but it still doesn't turn on.
I also know that it's not a display issue because the CAPS lock doesn't light up.
Also, when I charge it, the charger becomes green, then orange. But I've charged it for more than 8 hours on the orange light, but still doesn't turn green.
Please help, I'm on holiday and there are no Apple Stores here

Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery if it's a portable Mac.
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).

  • My macbook won't turn it on when running by battery

my 13" macbook won't turn it on when running by battery even the battery is completely charged. Even though plugging by power my macbook still works. What should I do to make sure the battery of the macbook to make it work again.

You might try to reset the SMC and/or PRAM. If that doesn't help you should contact apple service about getting it replaced.

  • My macbook pro got wet and the battery light is still on but my macbook won't turn on. What's the problem?

My mabook pro got wet the other night, the battery light still works but my macbook won't turn on and should i just wait for it to completely dry up? Or what should i do to solve this problem?

Just face facts - if water (or any other liquid) reached you logic board or any other electronic components, you're going to be the victim of corrosion.
Eventually, you'll need to have the logic board replaced. There are liquid sensors all over your MBP and the techs can tell if these have been activated. I wouldn't turn the computer on at all - if it were me, I would take it to your local Apple Store/AASP and get an estimate for repair. Rice & other desiccates may 'dry up' the liquid, but it won't undo the damage already done.

  • My Magsafe adapter blew while charging and now Macbook won't turn on or charge?

My macbook was completely dead (we just got back from vacation). I plugged it in to charge it with my Magsafe L adapter (that came with my macbook) and turned my macbook on. Within 20 minutes (it was around 40% charged at that point I believe), I heard a "pop" and the computer shut off. Completely. No warning. I felt the L shape and it was HOT. I immediately unplugged the adapter from the wall and the box was just as hot if not hotter. The 2 pronged plug has burn looking marks on the metal, which leads me to believe it blew and is dead. Now my macbook won't turn on. I tried a few troubleshooting things (control-command-power button for 3 seconds and shift-option-p-r-power button) and there was no response.
Am I screwed? Will I even be able to get anything off my macbook?
I purchased it in 2009ish if that helps.

If you are in the US or Canada, you could make a Genius appointment
at an Apple Store for a diagnostic check of the computer to see if the
DC-in board (or magsafe board) is still OK.
Or if it was toasted from the power surge or failure of the adapter. If
so, then it would need a service for replacement. Troubleshooting
the charging system may well extend to checking the rest of the
computer hardware, as so much is integrated.
There may be some ideas on repair questions in an appropriate
iFixit guide for MacBooks, online at their site. Not sure if there is
a guide for those power adapters, but had read where repairs had
been attempted by individuals several years ago, posted online.
Hopefully you can reconcile your differences with the MacBook.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Please help me! - My Apple Care ran out and my macbook won't turn on

    Hi!
My macbook refuses to turn on. It started with the fans not functioning properly, and then the display kept on turning black. Now it won't turn on at all. Every time I press the power button it boots up, and I can hear the fan and the corner light goes up but it shuts down after a few seconds. I took the battery out but that did not work. My Apple Care just ran out so I would rather not take it to the Genius Bar.
    Thanks!

    Mariposalatina,
Normally you can get your files back if you take it to a good enough technician to know how to not touch the files to repair such a situation.  If the machine is over 4 years old, the most common reason for the above symptom is a dead PRAM battery or capacitor.
    Maybetomorrow,
At very minimum call around to find out if there is a technician in your area who will fix that battery or capacitor without touching your data, or at least will extract the hard drive so you can put it in an external hard drive case and attach to a newer computer.

  • My Macbook won't turn on and I have a lot of stuff id like to keep

Macbook won't turn on need information

If the green light flickers on your charger should you leave it plugged in or is that an indicator that the macbook is still not ready to turn on? Do I leave the charger in after I attempt to drain the battery? This has happened to me and I've left it unplugged for 2 days with no response when I try to turn it on.

On the bottom of your MBP is the serial number.  Enter it here and post back the model/year information:

  • My MacBook won't turn on completely

My MacBook won't turn on completely. It will be fully charged, with the indicator light on the charger green and everything. When I turn it on, the screen lights up and the start-up noise happends, but that's as far as it goes. It stays with the light blue screen with the apple and loading wheel for an hour or so, then it turns itself off. I've tried this a few times over the last week, and nothing has changed.

For Mountain Lion v10.8  > OS X Mountain Lion: If you see a blue screen at startup
For Lion v10.7  OS X Lion: If you see a blue screen at startup
Snow Leopard v10.6 >  Mac OS X 10.6: If you see a blue screen at startup
    Tip ...
Helps to state which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.
