Try resetting the SMC, it may take 2-3 attempts. Please post back with the results. If you're not sure how please follow the instructions in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

  • My Imac Wont turn on

I dont get it I mean normally it works fine it is less then 2 months old and now it just wont turn on as if there is no power but it is plugged in correctly and I have tried unplugging it and that doesnt help at all

Contact Apple Care. I had a similar problem with my 20" Core Duo (2 GB RAM). After a month of owning the iMac, it turned out that my motherboard, AC/DC switch, and 1 GIG stick of RAM was bad. It was in the shop for 8 days. Now it runs like a champ. This was my first Mac by the way (long time PC-Windows user, er, hater).

  • My imac wont turn on anymore. it only shows a picture of a folder and question mark

I cant get my imac to turn on. It will only show a folder with a question mark in it,.

Your Mac can't find any bootable device. That could be because of two things:
    1. The PRAM "forgot" the startup disk.
    2. The hard disk is damaged.
First, press Option key while your Mac is starting and check if you see the OS X partition. If you see it, choose it and when OS X has booted up, open System Preferences > Startup Disk and select the OS X partition.
If not, the hard disk is damaged. If you have OS X Lion as you indicate, press Command, Option and R keys while your Mac is starting to start into Recovery. Then, open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair the disk. If it doesn't work, take the Mac to an Apple Store.
If you didn't make a backup, use DiskWarrior to recover your files. It could not work on some ocassions.
Also, there's a problem with the 1 TB Seagate iMacs hard disks sold between October 2009 and July 2011 and they are being replaced for free. Check if you can get replaced the hard disk for free > http://www.apple.com/support/imac-harddrive

    Hi, scomu
welcome to the Forum. and sorry to hear about your problems.
it looks/sounds like a problem of the PSU (power supply). Have a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2173.
be aware, the precise method to proceed depends on you model. You should specify which model you have. Look here:

ANy ideas out there how to get this unit back ON?

    Welcome, John!
It's going to be hard to troubleshoot when knowing so little. Please refer to this site:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/index-apple-specs-applespec.html
and use the links on that page to see what models it most looks like. The same site also has this feature:
    http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
Note the instructions about entering only part of the serial number. If you follow the instructions, the partiol serial infomation should point to the exact model.
If it's an iMac, there are two forums here; one covers iMac from their introduction in 1998 through 2005, and the other covers 2006 through the present. Once you tell us the version we can get you moved, as the forum you are in now is for pre-1998 Mac hardware and gets little traffic.

  • Imac Wont Turn Off

Over the last few weeks my Imac will not turn off. When I shut it down it clears the desktop and then just leaves the wallpaper displayed, but never turns off. It eventually goes into sleep mode, but to turn it off I have to manually push the power button.

Do you have something hanging? Sometimes my browser will interfere. Do you get any kind of message?
In any case, try resetting your PRAM and see if that helps.

  • Did not update firmware before installing tiger now imac wont turn on....

I bought tiger for my imac dv g3 400mh computer and bought additional memory from crucial so that it would load on.
I got a message on screen saying that I needed to update firmware and to restart my computer which I did and now it will not turn on. The power button is on but the screen is blank.
I have read an article posted on here and I tried everything (the sleep/wake trick)etc but it still will not work.
    any help will be appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Fortunately your Mac has a VGA port in its back panel, which should work to connect an external display while you apply the firmware after the fact. So find someone who has a VGA display, and download this firmware update and apply it while booted off the hard disk.
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n75130
It is only the internal display which goes dark if the firmware was not applied before attempting to install 10.2 or later.

  • My iMac wont turn off after the recent update

Just installed the recent update couple nights ago (did the update at night, ended up going to bed before it finished). And this morning tried to turn on my iMac and it just goes to the Apple logo with the loading bar screen. After a minute it shuts itself off.
I've tried to command-option-p-r it, that didn't work.
I don't have a disk to reformat it with (the "press C" option).
I have also tried the "press shift" option - doesn't work
My dang serial number on the bottom of the screen has a scratch through it so I'm not too sure what the first couple letter/numbers are... But I did take a picture of it anyways.
I've unplugged my external hard drive to see if it would start without it.
im not to sure what other options are; ive tried calling Apple support but they need my serial number. Which I can't even start it up to get the information.
    please help!

  • IMac wont turn on after random shutdown

I was watching a show on my computer and I also had MS word open, and all of a sudden my computer shuts off like it had been unplugged. So I waited a little bit, and tried to turn it on, nothing. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and tried to turn it on again, nothing. I've waited for about while now and nothing happens, no noises. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem, or knows anything about it.
    Thanks
    O

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try Resetting the PRAM
If that didn't help, boot from your install disk, run Disk Utility and make sure the startup disk is ok.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*

  • Imac wont turn on

Hi, i got a new 2.4ghz 20inch intel last Friday which was a replacement for an older 2.2ghz that i had for around 15 months which kept crashing. Problem is over the last few days when i turn it on at the back with the power button occassionally it would take a number of presses to get it on. Yesterday it took around 5 minutes of occassional pressing before it started up however since shutting it down yesterday i now cant get it on. I have tried resetting SMC and a different power chord but it appears to be dead Anyone got any advice?

    Hi
It was a replacement for my old one which died on me earlier this year. It was organised by my home insurance so i have contacted Apple support today who have verified that its dead after trying a few things. They have given me a case id to give to the company that provided it and hopefully i will get another. I did try a different power lead and it still wouldnt come on.

  • TS1367 My MacBook wont turn on.

My MacBook has power (the cords light is on) but it still won't turn on. Any ideas what it might be? I've tried resetting my smc and that didn't work. Also I don't have any AppleCare or warranties in effect so I'm trying to avoid a trip to an apple store.  Also the computer is a MacBook running 10.6 not sure if that will help or not.
