TS1367 My PowerMac G5 will not start up. There is no startup chime, no display and the fans speed up and sound like and airplane after about 30 seconds. Can someone help?

I push the power button, and it turns on, but there is no startup chime, no video display, and after 30 seconds, the fans spin up. Any ideas?

G5 has these hardware issues:
-- bad capacitors on logic board
-- bad capacitors in power supply
-- badly soldered video chip
-- "There were several Mac models with flat panel displays that had bad displays.
Most had serial numbers beginning with "W8"---the code for one specific factory.
This affected PowerBooks as well. If that's the case, the rest of the computer
is probably fine." by Allan Jones in

After installing the new software to my iPhone 4S , my dream zoo either will not start or when it does it has a blank screen that has a few icons on it that wont work. How can I fix this is it possible to go back and reinstall the older software ?

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

After connecting to iTunes, I noticed that "Back up to iCloud" was selected (in the middle of the screen on the "Summary" tab, under "Backup"), and "Last backed up to iCloud" reflected the time that I attempted to back up from my phone. Even now, the phone still says "Last Backup: Never," so there is clearly a disconnect. Hopefully Apple will fix this soon.

  • Imac 2008 20" wont start up. Has no chime, no display but the fans are running. Has a suspected graphics card problem. Any help would be appreciated.

After removing the graphics card to have a look at it, due to a suspected graphics problem, my imac 2008 20" wont now start. There is no chime, no display but the fans run, starting off slowly then when turned off by the power button and then turned back on with power button held in, the speed of the fans ramps right up. Any ideas?

    Hello:
I am not being critical, but you seem to want Safari to behave exactly like Chrome.  Every software developer has a plan.  Sometimes features in one product parallel other products - sometime not.  There might be some things available that would help you.  Do not hold your breath, however, for suggestions from people who use these forums.  Most of us use (and like) Apple products.  If you wish to make suggestions for future improvements, there is a feedback area on this web site that Apple employees read/review.
Candidly, your approach would be akin to suggesting that Apple emulate the "features" in Windows (heaven forbid).
I use Safari (and have for years).  I use Firefox (not a bad product) as my alternate browser.
Sorry for what appears to be a pedantic lecture.  However, I think most of us adapt to different products if we really want to use them.

If you already have an older version of Flash Player, open the Preference pane and select Check Now... under the Update portion under the General tab:
You shouldn't have to install a new version from the website (I'm not even sure if you can) if you've already installed Flash Player.

  • PowerMac G4 will not start up

My mothers PowerMac G4 that will not start up. it gets to the gray screen with the apple logo and stays there. We have tried everything I can think of but nothing works, we did the PMU rest thing, tried the Disk Utility and got a message saying the “underlying task failed upon exit”, and lastly we have tried the archive and install thing it cut's out about 1/2 of the way. I’m out of ideas… help!
Side note: We can’t wipe the HD because she has a book, and photos she needs on that HD.

    Hi, midgear!
If you don't have another Mac to connect to, do you have a spare drive you could connect externally or install internally? If so, and if the drive will mount, you might install OS X on the spare drive and copy her Home folder to the spare, or boot OS 9 from disc and copy her user data to the spare drive. Once you secure her important files, you can try zeroing the data on the original drive and doing a fresh install of OS X, then restore her user data to it.
As John indicated, the principal focus should probably be to recover her user files, after which you can focus on the errant drive. DiskWarrior might solve the problem without the need for another drive or another Mac, depending on the type and extent of directory damage that has occurred. What are the specific error messages that Disk Utiity reports when run from the Tiger install disc? (These messages normally appear in red type before the "underlying task failed upon exit" message appears.) Also, it might be helpful to know what model G4 she owns, if you have that info.

  • PowerMac G5 will not start up.

    Hello,
I have a PowerMac G5 2.5GHZ Dual Processor (June 2004) that will not boot past the grey apple screen.
It will not get to a second chime by holding Command-Option-P-R at startup.
If I start up using Command-Option-O-F and enter reset-nvram (return) and reset-all (return) it freezes.
I have pressed the PMU button once.
It will start up using the hardware diagnostic disk and I can run the extended test multiple times (everything passes). When I press shut down or restart on the diagnostic screen, it freezes.
It will not start up from the Leopard installer disk.
It will not start up from the Disk Warrior startup disk.
I did run Disk warrior on the hard drive via Target Disk Mode and another computer.
Everything is disconnected from the computer except monitor, keyboard and mouse.
I have swapped the RAM with another identical computer that runs fine.
Battery has been tested and is fine.
Does anybody have an idea of where to look?
    thanks
    Ken

I seem to have similar issues. 3 out of about 40 times have I been able to get a second chime out of my pram reset...then I hols and get about 3 more. Each time...OS starts up and works just fine...until I sleep/shut down the computer. My drive has 5 gigs left on it, i hear that may be the issue. How do we remove the graphics card and reset that????
oh and BTW...leaving the plastic door off and trying to reset PRAM worked 2 out of the 3 times for me. This is getting frustrating. Im gonna free up some drive space and see what happens. Let me know if/how the graphics card trick works. It's fairly ridiculous that so many of us have these same issues.

I have an app on my iPhone that I want to download on my iPad . Red icon with Chinese writing. Because I do not speak Chinese I do not know how to find it. The application is photography by different individuals of their vacations/trips. Can someone help

On your iPad  go to the App Store icon, Tap on the Purchased Tab.
It will show you all the Apps that have been bought with the Apple Id currently in use by the iPad.
Assuming its the same one being used on the iPhone, you should be able to find the App there.
To further help you find it you can tap on the "Not on this iPad" button to limit the results to just Apps not currenlty installed on your iPad.

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
