TS1367 my white macbook will not start up - on pressing on button screen lights up but blank - help!

My white macbook will not start up. On pressing the start button the screen lights up but remains blank. Help!

G5 has these hardware issues:
-- bad capacitors on logic board
-- bad capacitors in power supply
-- badly soldered video chip
-- "There were several Mac models with flat panel displays that had bad displays.
Most had serial numbers beginning with "W8"---the code for one specific factory.
This affected PowerBooks as well. If that's the case, the rest of the computer
is probably fine." by Allan Jones in

  • Macbook Will Not Start Up

My Macbook will not start up
I've had it about 5 years and around 3 years ago it started to go wrong with random shut downs so i took it into my local apple store and they replaced almost everything internally free under the special warranty i paid for.
since then its worked flawlessly, i dont use it often but did about a week ago to setup my new airport express (which wouldnt work from a pc)
now .. it wont start up
i't dosen't have a battery, that ended its serviceable life around a year ago with a life span of about 4 minutes so since then i've just run it plugged into the mains charger and has been absolutely fine.
when i plug the power adapter in the green light comes on and when i press the power button i can hear something inside whirring on start up (i suspect the HDD) and then the optical drive makes it usual sound ... but nothing else. there is no chime and the little white indicator does nothing also.
i tried unplugging everything and holding down the power button and that didnt do anything.
it's running Snow Leopard and literally has nothing on it, no files, no installed software, it only used from browsing the net so is pretty much empty except the OS.
PLEASE can someone help me find the problem and get my mac running again

Well i never did try the command option p r combo, but have now and makes no difference.
and the macbook dosen't work again.
sometimes it sounds like it wants to boot, the HDD spins up and the optical drive makes a noise but no screen and no chime.
sometimes it does the above and then seems to keep rebooting as the optical drive keeps making the start up noise it does on boot about 5-6 times in a row.
but on all occasions ... still no boot and no screen.
    Logic board fail ???

  • The macbook will not start.

The macbook will not start. begins with "Deng", then the initial blank screen with flashing folder and question mark. Unfortunately, the DVD player is dead. I tried with a USB external drive and the installation disk but nothing happens (keys, C, D or N). I managed to get the mouse pointer on a blank screen by holding the alt key at startup.
My impression is that the disc is filled abnormally and can no longer boot. Probably jumped the permissions. I explain: the disk was almost full. Then my wife tried to connect to a site (German) images (art history) who was struggling to load the large amount of data downloaded. At that point the machine was stopped and forcibly turned off. From the day after is no longer divided.
I have no idea how to do it again and all attempts have failed. As a last test I can try with another mac connected and with the T key pressed (target). But I ask: can I connect with a USB-USB cable?

    Thank's for answer.
The internal DVD player is broken. I have an external DVD drive (USB). I have the install DVD for the OS. But the evidence that I did not have success. What evidence do you recommend? May you confirm that the USB connection is useless? We need a firewire cable crossed?

  • The Macbook Pro will not start past the grey Apple logo screen? Any help will be most welcome?

The Macbook Pro 13, late 2009 will not start past the grey Apple Logo screen?  Any help will be most welcome? Thanks

Have you tried booting with the install disc that came with your computer?
Find it and then run Disk Utility to verify your hard drive. If errors are found, try to repair the disk.
It sounds as if the hard drive might be failing.

Snow Leopard is a Mac OS X version. You say that it's the version you have in your Mac (10.6.8). Do a back up of your files, format the hard drive (using Disk Utility) and reinstall again

  • My macbook will not start up. It gets stuck on the page with the apple and the pinwheel. Can anyone assist?

My macbook will not start up. It gets stuck on teh opening page with the apple. It was working fine and all of a sudden i cant get it to work. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? Or, is there a bypass to the start up page?

You won't lose your files unless something goes very wrong -- which may already have happened. You absolutely must have a backup before you do anything else. If you don't already have one, boot from your installation disc and follow the instructions in this article under "Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility":

Turn off power, and allow your computer to dry completely.

  • MacBook will not start up (no display, no chime)

I have a MacBook (white plastic housing, Intel Core 2 Duo processor) that will not start up. I had replaced an original crashed Toshiba hard drive with a new Seagate drive. That worked well for about 3 months, then suddenly the new HD was causing problems and even reinstalling OS X would not work (installation could not be completed). I sent the Seagate drive back under warranty, and they replaced it with a refurb drive of the same model. (Presumably this means they confirmed that the HD I sent back in was defective.)
Yesterday I installed the refurb drive, and now the MacBook will not boot up, even to the OS X install DVD in the optical drive. Booting up holding down "C" or option does not help. When I press the power button, there is no chime and the display does not come on, but the white power light on the front right of the case is on. The optical drive spins up, and there is a very brief flash on the display, but then nothing happens. After a few minutes, the optical drive spins down, and I power down by holding the power button. I tried booting up without a HD installed, and the same occurs.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It often is useful if you indicate what exact MBP you have and the OS you have installed.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

  • Macbook will not start after sharing and permissions error

I was cleaning around my files and went into the info of my Mac.
I clicked get info on the desktop icon and accidently messed up the sharing and permissions settings.
My computer would not let me into my Mac icon on my desktop, saying I didn't have certain permissions.
I tried restarting and now my Macbook will not startup. It turns on and loads, but never goes past that.
I removed the battery and placed it back in but it is not working still.
    Thanks for the help guys!

  • 13" white Macbook will not power on with known good battery

Macbook will not attempt to power on with a known good battery that shows full charge.  Also, when Magsafe plugged in, there is no indication (no green or amber light) it is connected.  This charger does work with another Macbook (same kind).
I have checked the Magsafe/port for any dust & debris, and have followed the tips listed in the FAQ's for a macbook with no power.  As I said, the battery & charger both work in another Macbook.
    Suggestions please!

Hi Stephanie. It could be a logic board issue or simply the power button at this point (let's hope its the latter). Can you give us more info on how this happened? Did the computer suddenly shut down or was it stored and unused for quite some time?
Without any power, and with you making sure both the battery and and charger is working, then I would suggest bringing it in to the Apple Store.

  • MacBook will not start up/Green Light always on

Last Thursday I was working off of my battery. The usual "reserve battery" warning came on. I was in a rush so I just closed up my laptop never shutting it down.
Now it will not start up when plugged in. Nothing happens when I push the power button.
Also, even though the battery is completely drawn down to zero, the green light is on rather than the orange light. Obviously, this means it is not charging the battery.
Any ideas would be much appreciated. I have tried resetting the SWC and starting without the battery in.
    Thanks

    Hi Judd,
I apologize if thise seems like a dumb question, but you didn't explicitly mention trying it, so here it goes. Did you try holding the power button down for about 5 to 10 seconds (until the power light turns off)? This will force the MBP to fully power off. It is actually an old PC trick... Good luck!

  • Firefox will not start on limited account. Reports firefox already running but doesn't show in task manager. Adminstrator account work fine

Firefox will not start on limited accounts. It reports firefox already running. This happens even if no other users are logged on. Administrator accounts have no problems accessing firefox

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • My mini ipad will not start up at all just black screen

my ipad will not start up

Tap the word Genius Appointment in Kappy's answer, it's a link. Or you can call the nearest Apple Store.
Try a reset first. Press and hold both the home and power buttons 10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds till your iPad starts on it's own.

  • IBook G3 will not start up-hangs up at blue screen

My IBook G3 will not start up. I can get the gray apple screen with pinwheel and then after a really long time it will go to a blank blue screen. A couple times it went to the login screen instead but in the user id it says "other" and when I try to enter my username and password it won't recognize me. I am a college student and one of the Apple geniuses here did a check of my hard drive and it checked out okay. We were not able to get it to start up in safe mode; it seemed like it was starting in safe mode but then it came to the login screen and would not allow me to login with my usual information. I was able to start up in single user mode and run fsck which found a couple things and after another fsck it said everthing was fine. But, it still gets hung up at startup. When I try to boot from the OS X installation CD it doesn't seem to be booting up with it, it only goes to the screen to install OS X. According to the directions on the Apple support site when I insert the CD and start up holding down the "c" key it should start up and then I should be able to repair permissions but I can't get that far.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.

There are many things that can happen when you bounce an iBook off the floor.
It sounds like something may have been knocked loose, perhaps a connection? Probably it is going to take an analysis by a technician to tell you exactly what's going on. I have links for firms on both coasts, but you should be able to find an Apple Authorized Service Provider (or just someone who advertises that he/she works on Macs) in a metropolitan area like Chicago just by grabbing your Yellow Pages or local classifieds. I would think you would have a fairly competitive market there. Maybe you can find someone who does free diagnostics who will tell you what it will cost so you can decide whether its worth the cost to repair it.
    Good luck.
