I am extemely frustrated. I have an Ipod touch 3rd Generation 32gb. I was promted by Apple to update my latest IOS to 5.1.1. In doing so Apple has locked up my ipod to the point that it will not update and is stuck on the install usb screen. All these sync proceedures appear to have been a waste of time as I can not restore this device either. It is amazing as I have seen many poeple online with the same problem yet, Apple can not even give anyone a proper answer on what to do. I would just like to restore the device without connecting to my PC. I know hold down power and start till logo and then hold 10 seconds. Nothing is happening. I need to take a class on how to run an Ipod touch ?
Please someone help me to resote my ipod touch with out connecting to a PC. This should not be so difficult. I can build PC's from scratch but I can't update an Ipod? Something is seriously flawed. I mean even this discussion is flawed, they do not have an option for IPOD TOUCH in community.

Did a software update for my ipod touch and now my ipod is stuck on the connect to itunes screen and itunes and my computer don't recognze the device. I can get it into recovery mode and see it under devices on my computer but it won't install the drivers that are needed for the ipod. I have done every possible step in the troubleshooting guides. I keep getting the same error message saying that the device driver software was not successfully installed. itunes won't recognize the ipod, under my computer does not dispaly ipod as connected, I can view that it is in recovery mode under the devices and printers but the drivers will not install by following the steps on apple support. How to restore Ipod database without iTunes?

Hi,
My iPod mini is visible to any aplication except iTunes. I have tried all it sugested on the manuals to fix it and nothing worked.
Others applications like RealPlayer and Anapod can see that the iPod is connect but can´t show its content. RealPlayer says that the database file doesn´t exist or is corrupted.
The only way I can see my files is accessing the iPod-Control directory using windows.
If I disconect it from the Pc I can´t see the musics that are on it.
I have made a copy of the songs that were on it and now I want to know how to restore it without use iTunes, because nothing makes iTunes see it.
Is there any update link that still work on apple website, so I don´t need to use iTunes?
I need to restore my iPod without iTunes because unistall, check register, restarts,... did not work.
The only way I can see the iPod is runing the diadnosis under the help menu. Nothing have worked to make it be showed as device.

Im stuck on the apple logo, and I realize that I need to restore the firmware. My issue comes with Itunes (7). This program is SOOOO incredibly slow, that it actually crashes my router before the download is finished, and instead of simply pausing the download, it cancels it altogether.
Is there a way to download the firmware from a third party, then install it using itunes?

However, you may have othr problems since it went into recovery mode unexpectidly. Try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod if necessary.

Cannot restore iPod Touch 5g: iTunes "Waiting for iPod"

SIDE NOTE: For a TL:DR, I've made all the important stuff bold.
I've been having this issue with my iPod Touch 5G where I cannot restore it no matter what I do.

When my iPod is not connected to the computer, it literally does nothing at all, no matter what you do. When you plug it into the computer, the computer recognizes it as an iPod, but it says "Serial Number: n/a", and will not display any info. I can tell my iPod detects button presses because I can connect it and disconnect it just by holding in the Power and Home buttons. After plugging it in, the bar at the top of iTunes says "Extracting software", then after that bar fills up it goes to "Waiting for iPod". It then says "Preparing iPod for restore", and then fluctuates between the last two, once or twice. After that, iTunes gets stuck on "Waiting for iPod", and stays there. The iPod, however, displays an apple logo with an empty progress bar beneath it. I took it to an Apple Store not too long ago, and they couldn't fix it. The employee there couldn't do anything more than what I've done. He said that my only option is to get a new one. I still haven't lost hope, though, because there has been two other cases where I've fixed devices where something like this has happened. It's just not working now.

I updated my Fourth Generation Ipod Touch to ios5. The Itouch's home computer broke down so i am now forced to use my other pc which is authorised with the same apple id as the one on my old pc and on my itouch. I have not used my itouch in a couple of months and i forgot the password. When i try and connect it up to the latest version of iTunes on my PC it gives me this message:
"Itunes could not connect to "Ipod Touch" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
Note: I do not mind force restoring. I have no data on my itouch that needs to be saved I have everything already backed up to the cloud. I tried force restore methods but they would not work. Is there a special method for ios 5?
