TS1382 iPod Classic will not restore on iTunes

My audio suddenly stopped working yesterday while attached to the Auto stereo. Removed it from the car, attached headphones, still no audio. The unit is showing that it is working, just no sound from any speaker system I attach it to. Took another iPod and plugged it into the car, no problem, works fine.
Attempted to do the Toggle Hold, push menu and select reset. Still no joy, have tried the iTunes restore and I get a "cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application"?
Any ideas how to correct this malfunction?
Thanks

  • Ipod classic will not restore and will not work after many attempts

I have purchased and replaced 3 ipod models, This is my third one (80GB ipod classic) and with out fail after 1 year and 2 months after buying it, it stopped syncing with my itunes and now after 5 attempts to restore it will not restore and will not work. I am sick of this and find it preposterous. What is wrong with ipods..? what is wrong with my recent one?

I have tried to restore via itunes and I still get the same message on the Ipod after many many restore attempts."Use iTunes to restore" with the picture of a plug on the screen and then it just shuts down. Exactly 1 year and 2 months after I purchased it as was the previous Ipod I had in 07.... what is going on?
Are ipods not made to work with both macs and pc's? it seems they just shut down after a while
    what can I do?

  • IPod Classic will not connect to iTunes, tried many different things to fix but nothing worked

    What I devices I have:
I have a classic iPod and a dell laptop with windows xp.
    The problem:
iTunes and iPod work fine separately, however when I plug iPod in, iTunes will not open. If iTunes was open at the time I plugged in iPod, it freezes and wont function again until iPod is disconnected. [Once I left iPod plugged in for an hour and iTunes did open, but iPod was not noted as being connected.]
iPod charges when connected. Icon takes about 5 minutes to show up in my Computer folder. When I click the icon nothing will happen or the folder will freeze up. iPod doesn’t show up in Disk Manager either. Putting iPod into Disk Mode changed nothing.
    How it happened:
Once when I plugged in iPod a window (not an iTunes window) popped up saying that the device should be formatted or it may not work properly. Not wanting my iPod to stop working, I clicked ok and now my iPod isn’t working. Lesson: don’t click strange buttons
    What I’ve done:
    > Right clicking and clicking ‘format’ on the iPod icon while in the Computer folder – computer does nothing or freezes
    > Going to ‘reset your iPod’ – didn’t fix the problem
    > Restarting iPod (turn on and off)
    > Telling iTunes to prevent iPod from syncing automatically
    > Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
    > Put iPod in Disk Mode, computer still didn’t recognize it.
    > everyother thing google and apple's self help section has recomended
    Any more suggestions?

    Assuming a PC start here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
It is normal for the computer to recognize the iPod as a camera since thatis how one gets photos and videos off the iPod.

  • IPod classic will not connect in iTunes

My iPod classic 30gb (not sure if 4th or 5th gen) will not display in iTunes. I have followed the steps on apple support and came to the conclusion that windows was confusing the my ipod with a network drive but I cannot change the drive letter, an error message appears.
I am using windows 7 on a new laptop. iPod connects fine on my old laptop which has a windows XP os. My iPod is quite old, i have had it since 2005/2006 but i have never had any problems and i really dont want to loose all my music, videos and photos.
My sister has tried connecting her iPhone to this laptop afterwards and after a lot of hassle and iTunes constantly resetting, her iPhone finally managed to connect and is displayed in iTunes.
I have relativley good technical knowledge, i am very good at solving things and am good with computers as have an a-level in I.T, but this has me stuck and is fustrating! Any help would be most appreciated.

    Hello,
I have a similar problem, I was helping a client today, he has an iPod Classic and wanted to download an album. I had to update his iTunes to Version 10, not realizing that this might not work with his older iPod. I connected the iPod to his computer via the Apple USB connector, and his computer did not recognize the iPod.
I have no idea what to do next, as I a more of a MAC user..
Thanks in advance for any help on this!

  • TS1372 My ipod classic will not restore

I got the white screen of death so i looked for solutions, i managed to get the ipod working again but itunes said the device was corrupted and also needed formatting, i again looked for advice on how to do this and was successful, but itunes says it the ipod needed restoring, i tried but it will not restore and i get the error code 1436, i have followed apples help and advice but to no avail, i have updated and reinstalled itunes but still same problem, i am stumped as what to try next, can anyone help please

Sorted the problem, I have an old laptop with windows XP on it, i installed itunes on it and connected the ipod.
Itunes recognised it repaired the fault and synced it so i don't know why my desktop would not do it.
    i'm happy now.

  • IPod classic will not sync after iTunes upgrade

After upgrading to the latest version of iTunes - 10.6.1.7 - yesterday,  my iPod classic is not recognized and I cannot sync it.
The iPod does appear as a drive on my computer (with Windows XP).  The screen message on the iPod states that it is synching with iTunes, the iTunes message states it is synching with the iPod - but the iPod does not download anything new from iTunes and it does not appear as a device on iTunes.
I've gone through the steps for troubleshooting; I've tried syncing the iPod on two different computers - unfortunately both of which have been upgraded to the latest version of iTunes - with the exact same results.
It worked fine before I upgraded iTunes and I'm at a loss on how to fix this.  Is there some way to uninstall the upgrade and reinstall the old version?
Suggestions are most welcome.  Thanks much.

I am also having this problem. I have a 160gb classic that I bought last fall. I have a work computer I've used for my iTunes synch base due to broadband access.  The system had worked well enough with 64 bit XP and a few registration tweaks to calm itunes about working in that old environment. Forward to 2 weeks ago - I copy my library to the network drive so that IT can scrub the computer and upgrade me to Win 7. Computer is back up, install the newest version if iTunes, seems to come up fine. Several rounds of re-importing the library after it kept entering all the songs twice. Go to re-synch the ipod - get the 'this is a new device, erase *EVERYTHING* and re-synch. Yep yep. Sits there for nearly two hours saying it's re-uploading stuff. Then on the way home, I see - hey, a ton of stuff isn't there, lots of missing podcasts. Go check, everything is checked, new stuff downloaded, can listen to it on the PC with headphones. Then go synch the iPod - get the same 'things are updating..... synch finished'. And nothing has up- or down-loaded. Tried unchecking stuff, nada. Import new stuff, nada. Nothing   Plus it looks like pretty much every CD i ripped into itunes for the past 4-5 months failed to move - maybe iTunes was saving it somewhere else than the My Music folder.    PITA-factor of that aside, I'd really like to get at the last 3-4 weeks of podcasts. Any help on getting the system to actually do a real sy
My other changes in the last few weeks are getting a new iPhone to replace an old non-iPhone, so there is another devicee on the account. I don't see my iPod listed amongst my devices in the iTunes store - not sure if that's only for wireless stuff.
    Help!!

  • Ipod classic will not connect to Itunes

I have had no trouble with my MacBook Ipod connection until I reformatted my hard drive on my mac book ( 2ghz intel dual core 2) and reinstalled my operating software OS 10.4.11. Now when I connect my Classic ipod 160 gig, I get the message "The ipod cannot be used because it requires Itunes version 9.0 or later. Go to WWW.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes". I have done that a couple of times, but still the same message and my ipod still is not recognized in iTunes. Can anyone help? Thanks

Plausibly, you might have ended up with two different versions of iTunes on the PC, and the iPod is trying to connect to the wrong one. To check for that, see the *Opening iTunes* section down the bottom of the following document:
[Troubleshooting iTunes installation on Mac OS X|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2311]
But if no luck there, try a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes, as per the following document:
[Removing iTunes for Mac OS X|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224]

  • Ipod Classic will not restore or show in itunes

The other day my ipod froze so I decided to reset it. When I did that the original screen would not reappear and instead it told me to restore it. "Fine," I thought, but I was on an airplane at the time and didnt have any internet. When I tried to do the same thing with internet access, my ipod wouldnt even show up on my computer, despite going through the same steps. I've let the battery die and then plugged it into my computer to charge and try resetting again, but the dreaded "do not disconnect" screen comes up but my ipod isnt showing in itunes. I've updated to the latest version of itunes. What should I do? Help help! I have a 19 hour plane ride that would be tragic without my ipod.

Try charging to a wall outlet instead of a computer. It charges much faster.
And try the 5 R's > Apple - Support - iPod - iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant

  • IPod Classic will not sync to iTunes 11.0.4.

I have an iPod Classic 160Gb. After connecting to itunes, my ipod is recognized but it will not sync any of my new songs that i just bought. I tried factory reset and now none of my songs will sync to my iPod Classic. Apperently this has been a problem with iTunes 11? I run Windows 8 64bit and iTunes 11.0.4.

  • IPod Touch will not restore in iTunes

My iPod Touch keeps switching itself off suddenly and as instructed I hold the top/bottom buttons together and it usully comes back on.  But, now it will not hold and just keeps switching itself off and on.  A couple of times it showed the apps etc. but then switched itself off again.  I have now managed to get the "plug into iTunes" picture up and each time I manage to get this and iTunes acknowledges it I try to restore it but it gets so far and the iPod shuts down and it shows that it cannot be restored.  A friend has also tried to restore on his computer but gets the same problem.  iTunes is up to date and when I originally tried to update the iPod as requested it would not do it as iPod again shut down.  Can anyone help please or do I need to go to an Apple store to get a repair.  Thanks

Thanks for that.  I have already tried this exactly as written.  I get half way through the restore and it freezes and tells me that iTunes cannot see the iPod and the iPod has turned itself off again. I have tried doing this procedure for about 2 hours and so has our friend on his computer but the same thing happens.

  • My Ipod Classic will not register with itunes

I have followed all the steps to help fix this problem. My ipod stopped syncing and charging when connected to my computer and itunes no longer recognises my ipod so i can not get into the ipod itself to do anything through Itunes. As recommended by Apple as a last resort i was able to get my ipod to come up in my Itunes long enough to restore factory settings. Even after all that my ipod now does not show up, can not sync, can not charge except through its wall plug, and is completely empty so i can not use it. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

You might want to read through this post I recently wrote summarizing what can lead to synchronization problems. My first suggestion would be to determine whether the problem lies with iTunes/your computer or the iPod itself. To that end, if you have a friend with a working iTunes setup (or at the Apple store), I'd see if you can get that machine to at least connect to your iPod and restore it with something... anything. If that works, you know the iPod itself is OK and not corrupted, and you can look at disk diagnostics and such. If that doesn't work, then contact a Genius bar for service.
If the problem is on the iTunes/your computer side, my post cited above should help. I'd suspect the problem is in the underlying Apple media drivers, and I'd move back through the iTunes versions until I find one that works. Note that, at some point, you may no longer be able to read the backed Itunes library (and do back up your libraries). If that happens, you should be able to reimport your music from where it is on disk, but you may lose metadata such as ratings, play counts, and playlists.

  • Ipod Classic will not restore!!!!!

I just got a ipod classic from my friend the other day and im trying to put the music from my library on to the ipod. I have tried everything to restore this thing. Pressed restored, tryed to format it, put it in disk mode and tried to restore it. Nothing. Everything is still on there. and half of the songs on there are corrupt and it really is a pain in the.......... so if anyone could help me out it would be awesome.

I am having the same problem.Difference is i go to charge the ipod via usb cable and it says charging please wait the funny thing is since i ordered a new logic board from apple there was no battery connected so how would it say charging please wait?So then i tried the AC adapter and the apple logo came on for 2 secons then it said use itunes to restore. So the pc and my mac wont restore the ipod becauase it seems as if it wont detect it.Now how do can i fix this muck of a situation im in.My classic is fairly new problem was the logic board middle button stopped working so i bought a whole new logic board.

  • After years of use, my ipod classic will not sync with itunes on any computer. I have wiped the ipod clean and it still won't sync. what to do?

I had about 80 songs on my ipod and it worked fine until one day i purchased some new music from itunes and discovered that it wouldn't sync. I tried various things and finally wiped the ipod clean thinking it would sync then. It doesn't and now I have no music on it. When I check for devices, the sync option is grayed out on itunes. I even tried it from another computer but it won't sync with that either.

See Corrupt iPod classic. What are the stats?

  • IPod Classic Will Not Register in iTunes, but Will Register on Desktop

After updating iTunes to version 10.5.3, I plugged in my iPod to get recent music I had downloaded. I do so, and it takes a little longer to update than usual. I pressed eject in the iTunes sidebar and my iPod said it was okay to disconnect, though I might have disconnected a little early. I check my iPod to see that all my music, videos, everything are gone. I try to replug it into my computer and it doesn't show up.
I have tried everything to no avail: putting the iPod into Disc Mode, restarting iTunes, redownloading iTunes, restarting my iPod, trying different wires, etc. I tried calling Apple Support, but I don't want to pay $30 for advice I've already used. I've scrounged the Internet, but I've come up with nothing. If anyone out there can help me, I would be eternally grateful.
