TS1382 Sad face icon what does it mean

My husband dropped his ipod and now we only have a sad face.
Is there anything that can be done?

See here: iPod displays a sad iPod icon
Note that it's often a good sign of a hardware issue with the iPod's hard drive meaning the iPod will need to be serviced or replaced.

  • A Sanyo Xacti VPC HD2000 icon: What does it mean?

I cannot find the answer to this question in my Sanyo Xacti VPC HD2000A camcorder manual.
On the left side of the Display, there is a white icon shaped like a U and filled up. Imagine the capital letter U filled with white milk. To the left of that icon I see two tiny little icons lined up vertically. The top icon looks like it could be a white arrow sign pointing downwards. The bottom icon looks like a white cross.
What does that mean? I do not recall seeing that icon previously. It might be the result of me experimenting with my Xacti. My manual does not explain it.

    Zyfert,
Thank you ever again. I just now downloaded the manual for my Sanyo VPC-HD2000A camcorder. It will be so much easier to look for information.
As for the other items: (1) getting a still out of a clip, and (2) stopping the action right at a certain point, Zyfert, the other day it was slightly breathtaking to see the different explanations and suggestions and then to realize that some of it was going about a foot over my brains.
I have downloaded Streamclip and also that other app, Square5.
I have to look at all the posts again and get them straight while looking at my iMovie '11 program.
One thing: the issue of the blast of pictures (stills) as being a possible solution is great, but in my case, the situation is at the point of editing in iMovie '11, not when I am shooting with my Sanyo VPC-HD2000A. (Someone had mentioned the virtue of the rapid fire succession of still shots.)
I have explored my Sanyo VPC-HD2000A quite a bit. I made some changes tonight -- small things like having the date and time show up in the display when I open it. I had some questions about those kinds of issues/options and will post them later.
Right now I am mainly wanting to thank you again, Z,

  • Padlock Symbol at Lower Left of USB hard drive Icon - What does it mean ?

Presumably the small locked padlock that appears at the lower left corner of my USB external hard drive's mounted icon when I boot into Leopard means the volume is locked in some way ????
This volume is NOT my designated Time Machine volume.
I seem to be able, as my computer's administrator, to still write to and read from this drive and the permissions look OK for it so what does this newly appearing lock icon mean and how do I get rid of it ?
Also: on the Mac's internal drive this time, Why is the finder asking for my password very time I try to move or delete files and folders from my own home documents folder when logged in normally as myself ? Don't I "own" my own home folder ?????

I too want to join in on this Band Wagon! I did nothing new to my Mac Pro running Leo 10.5.2 and all current updates applied. First thing I noticed was copying files from an external usb drive. The file would get to almost finished and have maybe a couple of bits left. Then a notice would appear saying the files were corrupted. (NOT) I had to Force Quit the Finder and Relaunch it in order to remove the warning notice off of the desktop. Then I noticed 1 of my 4 internal drives with the padlock on the lower left hand side. As I was investigating that drive another drive blinked and then it too had the padlock! Now the external usb drive also has a padlock. I looked at permissions with (Command I) and found that my permissions had been changed to "Custom" which could not be changed back to read & write. In fact all of the affected drives now have the same issue. So to try to fix them I added myself to the users side of the permissions box and gave myself read and write permissions in the hope I could delete the custom permissions account. No Luck! But I was able to delete the new read write account? Ran Disk utility from the DVD an the drives still show up as being locked. Anyway when I removed the DVD I let the machine reboot. Now for the fun! It gets up to the grey background & spinning gears, goes to black and restarts. It stays caught caught in this loop until I kill the power. Call Apple support & they told me what I already knew. Reformat & start over. I do not find that to be an answer I want to know what caused it & how to fix it! Since my company just invested in 50 of these units and I am the only technician for over 200 users.

  • Modern Combat 2 -- Red Indicator badge on icon; what does it mean?

I usually don't ask software-related questions, but this one has me stumped.  I recently bought and started playing Gameloft's Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus.  Hey, I needed something to do while the power company restores power in the wake of Hurricane Irene!
Anyway, I noticed that a red indicator (the usual red circle on the game icon) appeared, with a "1" on it.  I searched and could not find out what this means.  Anyone know?

I know zilch about notifications like this. But if it is a game center game, look in there and see what you can find. I know that you can get messages from friends or fellow gamers - it's your turn to make a move - or maybe a message from the game developers - something like that - some new leader on the leader board - I'm just guessing now.
Either go to the the Game Center app or tap the game app itself.

  • Unsuccessful double click on G5 icons: what does it mean?!?

I've got this afternoon a 2nd hand G5 Power Mac (1st generation, 1.6 GHz, 1 GB Ram, 10.5.8). So far so good, I've run Rember, Preferential Treatment, Onyx, Disk Utility, CPUTest and all tests have been passed. However something strange is also happening: quite often but also randomly when I doubleclick on an icon, it's highlighted but then it doesn't open, then by keeping doublecklicking the icon will eventually open at the 3rd or 4th try (it happens both with folders or applications) but still it's annoying, and I wonder how to solve it. Apparently (but I haven't tested for a long time) there's no problem by launching an application with a single click on the dock, or even once it has been highlighted by using cmd-o. I've been wondering if it was the mouse connected to the keyboard, but it's the same if it's directly connected to the G5... any idea?!?

well, already "sorted": it was the previous owner who had set the doubleclick speed at the maximum, and it didn't pick my "slow" clicks

Also experiencing some funky issues with my wireless keyboard. With new batteries, it will just stop functioning. Certain keys intermittently won't work. Also the fans go on as soon as I turn the computer on - some times they stay on and sometimes they don't. Ever since upgrading the operating system - I've been having many issues with this iMac. Not happy. Any answers out there?

Thanks for your reply LexSchellings, There is no disc in the drive and I went through the suggestions you put forward on the phone with Apple support without any luck. I can put a disc in but it pops straight back out again without registering on finder.
The idea of using an external drive was to enable me to avoid the cost and loss of productivity whilst machine in repair... if I have to take it in to get the old drive removed than I might as well have a new internal drive put in, although I do worry about the reliability of these apple drives given my experience with this one coupled with my limited online research ... on line forums seem to be full of people with the same problem (although perhaps searching such forums is bound to make it seem a common problem as users with perfectly working machines are less likely to post (?)) Your reply suggests that no external drive will work whilst the existing drive is in place.
As a postscript: I do realise that this is a user forum ...my secondary question was asking if anyone knows how to put forward a case/complaint to Apple... I can't find a link on the support page that would enable me to do so and I was wondering if anyone on this user forum had any ideas/experience..

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are safely connected go to the iPod Summary tab and make sure "manually manage music and videos" is checked:

  • The battery icon on my (old) MacBook Pro turned red. Then black. What does this mean?

The battery icon on my (old) MacBook Pro turned red for a few moments, then black. What does this mean?

    penny41,
Thanks, glad it helped you to check your battery status.
Something else to look at would be the cycle count, as you mention that your computer is "ancient". If you have a high number of cycles, it may also be a sign that the battery is tired and possibly nearing it's life span, and may possibly need to be replaced soon. If you see that again you may try a SMC reset to see if that helps, but if it continues you may need a new battery at some point. The battery icon will usually say needs service, or something to that effect.  For the later MBP's Apple claims a life span of up to 1000 cycles, of this also will be dependent on who the battery is used, on the older ones I'm not quite sure what the claims were, and I don't know how old "ancient" in your case actually means.
I provide this for your info, so that you understand what may possibly be occurring.
    I wish you the best.
    SMC reset:
Follow directions for what applies to your machine, a battery you can remove, or a battery you should not remove yourself.

I just received my iPad2 today. When I turned it on it only showed a USB cable and the iTunes icon. What does this mean?

The first thing that needs to be done with a new iPad is to activate it by connecting it to a computer running iTunes (version 10.2 +).
