TS1389 Trouble with using an AOL screen name Apple ID

I got a new computer and cannot use my AOL Apple ID to authorize purchased music. When I go to iForgot it tells me an email has been sent to that address - but I do not receive any emails. Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • Now my AOL screen name no longer works....

I just activated an iPhone and updated iTunes. I sign into the Store using an AOL screen name that I have used without too many prior problems since the first day the Store opened. However, to activate the iPhone, I had to use my Apple ID.
Since then, I've only been able to sign in using the Apple ID. The AOL screen name now supposedly is one that "has not yet been used" at the Store, but when I try to create an Apple ID under that name when prompted, I am told the name already is in use. I actually don't want to use an Apple ID to access the Store since I haved unredeemed credit there and my computer is authorized to play five years' worth of purchases under that AOL account name. The problem manifests identically both on my MacBook Pro and my Dell laptop running XP, in an existing iTunes installation on the Mac and in a brand spanking new one on the Dell.
Apple email support remains lame for this issue. In the past, when I have had AOL screen name access issues, I get the canned response reminding me to be sure I am clicking the radio button for AOL sign-on and to be sure that my password is correct and that, if I still can't access the Store doing that, I should create an Apple ID to access the Store. There is no canned response that explains what else I can do. Luckily, in the past, similar problems resolved themselves despite Apple support's lack of useful instruction. Either the server stopped hiccuping or I was able to workaround by signing in, first, under my Apple ID, signing out, and then signing in under my AOL name. However, it's been more than 24 hours this time since I had access, longer than I've been locked out before.
Anyone else having this or similar AOL log-in problems right now? Thanks for all suggestions.

Just want to add one more thing: When I try signing in using the correct combination of AOL screen name and password, I get the error message saying that my screen name "has not yet been used" at the Store. However, when I try using another password just for grins, I get a message saying that the screen name and password combination does not match the Store's records. If the Store can discern a name/password mismatch, doesn't it seem clear that the Store does recognize that there's an active account in place under the name/password combination? Weird.

  • "aol screen names may no longer be used with the itunes store"

    Hi,
I unwittingly created two itunes accounts, one with my AOL screen name, and a apple ID. Now, i'm getting the message "aol screen names may no longer be used with the itunes store", and then, "Please create a Apple ID". I'd rather not have two apple ID's, can I merge the two together?

I have the same question ...

  • I have an aol screen name I use to log in to itunes store, but it can not be used on my apple tv as it is not an apple id

my oldest otunes store UN was my AOL screen name, and then when the newwer stuff came out requring an email address it never prompted me to just add that on to the one I already had, so thus another itunes un now known as my apple id was born.  My question is I recently bought an apple TV and I have movies and shows on the AOL screen name account that I can NOT access on my apple tv as I do not have an apple id for that account it will not let me sign in to it through the apple tv.  I was wondering if there is a way to convert my AOL account into a normal apple id?

I have the same issue. Back in the day, when Apple and AOL had a relationship, AOL users had the ability to use their AOL account screen names and passwords in order to purchase content from the iTunes store. Unfortunately the disconnect resides in the fact chosing that way of signing in and purchasing content didn't actually create a true Apple ID. This results in the ability to still purchase content via iTunes on Mac or PC or on iPhone and iPad, but the inability to sign in with the same account with any other Apple services such as appleid.apple.com or even the Apple Store App.
After the relationship between Apple and AOL dissolved there is no way of turning the AOL account associated with many many purchases into an Apple ID. I've tried every way possible and search long and hard for an answer. There was a way a while ago and the process was that you had to cancel any subscription services with AOL. Apple would realize this and notify you in iTunes saying your AOL account has been deactivated, would you like to make it an Apple ID (this may be the article to which you are referring, HACKINTOSH). Unfortunately this method doesn't work any longer.
However I have found a way for old AOL users to change the account they use to purchase content with into an Apple ID. The answer is iTunes Match. I've tried many other methods and iTunes match seems to be the route to take. When subscribing to iTunes match, iTunes will recognize that the account you're trying to subscribe with is not a true Apple ID and will ask you to change the AOL screen name into an Apple ID.
This is the only way that I have is even close to solving this issue. However I haven't been able to complete the process due to unrelated reasons. Considering iTunes Match is $24.99/year that may not be worth it to just convert an Apple ID. But if you can find a use for subscribing to iTunes Match (which personally I think is a brilliant service), I believe that this will convert the AOL account into an Apple ID.
Let's see what iTunes says as well. I haven't contacted them but if any info is received please let us know!
    Hope this helps.

  • Authorising tunes with ancient AOL screen name

Apologies, I originally posted this to the 'Using iTunes for mac' forum, but I believe posting to this forum would be more appropriate.
I've authorised most of the songs in my library, but some need to be authorised using an old AOL screen name that I once had. The thing is, iTunes refuses to recognise my old password and screen name and when I click 'forgot password', the thoughtful people at Apple give me an American AOL number, and a UK AOL number that doesn't work.
Call me a faff, but I don't really want to spend money calling America to speak to a company I'd hoped to never have business with again, just to get a password to let me play music that I already own.
What do users in the UK, like me, do in a situation like this?

  • Cant log in with AOL screen name anymore!

ive logged into itunes with my aol screen name for over a year now, and now itunes isnt accepting it anymore! i put a $25 gift card on my account and now i cannot log on. does anyone know what i can do?
    Gateway Laptop   Windows XP

I've had the same problem for a month now. My daughter put her xmas gift card into her AOL account on Itunes. Then she went back to purchase a song but Itunes would not allow her to sign into the account. It kept saying that the AOL account did not exist. So, she created a new account - needless to say the money did not show up on this new account. She was not aware that I had cancelled our AOL service. So, Itunes support said to log into the AOL account 3 times and then I would be prompted to "transition the AOL account to an Apple Account" - I do not receive a Transition message, I get a "create new account" message. When I try to create a new account it tells me that The Apple ID or password was entered incorrectly. I followed all the rules to create an apple account and it Did Not Work!!!! So, Now I have $50 in AOL account that I can't access.
This has been going on for a month now - I am not getting anwswers from Itunes support that will fix this problem.
If anyone has any suggestions - I'd be eternally grateful!!

  • How do I stop Firefox from opening my AOL screen name?

AOL is my home page when using Firefox. In the morning, when I turn on the computer, Firefox immediately comes on the screen. Since AOL is my home page, my AOL screen name also comes up, already signed on. I do not want to be signed in automatically. I want to enter my password as I must do on my other computers. How can I fix this?

-> Tap '''ALT''' key or press '''F10''' to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled'''
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted/Incompatible Toolbars
-> go to Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> '''Time range to clear: select "EVERYTHING"''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on '''Cookies, Cache''' -> click '''Clear Now'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> General -> '''When Firefox starts : select "Show My Home Page"''' and click '''Reset to Default''' button
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmark on '''Block Pop-up windows''' -> click '''Exceptions...''' and click '''Remove All Sites'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> '''Firefox will: select "Remember History"'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries
-> Click OK on Options window
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Extensions (Add-ons)
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Appearance section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Themes (Persona)
    -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons and Themes later. Check and tell if its working.

  • ITunes Not Accepting AOL Screen Name and/or Password

As of late last night (early this morning), I am unable to sign in to the iTunes store on any of my devices (iMac, iPhone, iPad) with my AOL screen name, and receive the following message:
"The AOL screen name you entered couldn't be found or your password is incorrect. Please try again."
I am able to sign into AOL with the username and password so I know they are correct. I have eMailed Apple Customer Service and await their reply.
    Oy!

    Same Problem, and REALLY frustrating!
I was in chat to Bangalore with AOL Support, since my paid account doesn't allow me telephone support. Their chat window disconnected me and went to 7 different technicians there. Each time they would read my history, it would disconnect. I was furious after an hour of this waiting, and gave up. They had no solution to this insane problem. And of course, APPLE does not allow you to contact them except for 48Hour turnaround on iTunes Emailing. In addition, the Apple Support site leads you to a screen where you are supposed to see "I cannot in via my AOL account" under the Billing Support, but that page, of course, is missing. And when you try to bring up that support pop-up window, it hangs and never brings up anything but the "Did this solve your problem" [yes] [no] buttons!
I have tried fully removing and reinstalling my iTunes Account.
I have changed my passwords on both my AOL and AppleID
    I have deleted caches
I have deauthorized and reauthorized my iTunes account (only the AppleID works, my AOL id will not work)
I cannot get to my AOL ID on either the iPhone or the iTunes on my Mac.
The Apps I have running on my iPhone are critical for my use. iTunes started deleting them before I aborted the sync.
This is unbelievably frustrating and an inappropriate way to support a customer, let alone an I/T professional such as myself. I even looked in to making an appointment with an Apple Genius, but that would be 3 day lead times in my area.
Does anyone have any more suggestions? Is Apple Support listening?

  • Log in via AOL screen name

Hello, there is no AOL Button in the  iTunes login window anymore: How to login with AOL screen name before it is too late? I tried both on a PC and a Mac. Any hints are much appreciated!!

Also remember, you may have to iTunes Store accounts:
    one that ends in @aol.com
one that is just an old school AOL screen name
If your password isn't working for an Apple ID that ends in @aol.com, you can just go to appleid.apple.com and reset the password.
If your password isn't working for an iTunes Store account that's just an AOL screen name, you'll want to double check that you're entering in the correct password. You could probably verify that you're entering in the right password by going to aol.com or aim.com and attempting to sign into AOL's portal, since it'd be the same password used there. This password isn't something Apple would manage.

  • Problems converting my AOL Screen Name to AppleID?

I'm hoping you have some advice for me. When I follow the instructions and try to convert my 'AOL screen-name' account to a new 'AppleID' account using a new, different email address, it won't let me do it. When I open the page to convert, it has already entered my AOL screename followed by @aol.com in the email box as the default  'example'. But when I overtype it to a new, unused email address (it does permit me to overtype it), and enter new passwords, it reverts the email address back to the AOL email address (which I have already reused previously as an AppleID, as others have done), and tells me I can't use that one because it already exists as an AppleID. But, it will never permit me to enter a new one! Help!

Wow, that is not what we have been led to believe here. The change for the AOL User Name is just that (and just as you thought). Your Apple ID needs to be a valid email address. An aol.com email address is a valid email address. If you can verify it, it is a valid email address. Apple's own support article on this topic has the following paragraph regarding the only situation where an aol.com email address cannot be used:
When you convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID, you might not be able to convert it to one that ends in @aol.com if you have used your AOL email address to create a separate Apple ID. For example, if your username is johnnyappleseed, you might not be able to convert it to [email protected] if you already have an account tied to that email address.
What this is saying is that if you already have an Apple ID that is using that aol.com email address as the Apple ID, AND you also have an AOL User Name Apple ID, you cannot use the aol.com address when changing that AOL username to a valid email address.
However, if you simply changed the AOL User Name to your aol.com email address using the EDIT function (meaning you did not set up a brand new, separate Apple account, but changed the Apple ID on the account that was using the AOL User Name), then you do not need to do anything. You no longer have an Apple ID using an AOL User Name at that point.
You do NOT need to change your Apple ID if it is using your aol.com email address, and if you have no other Apple account that is using that old AOL User Name.
So, if you have not already done it, you do not have to change your Apple ID if it is an aol.com email address.

  • New Computer - New AOL Screen Name

Tried to authorize new computer. Worked fine for my husband's iTunes. Switched over to my user on Windows and it won't authorize. Also, using an old AOL screen name to accomplish authorization (wants me to do it one song at a time - even then the song won't play). Does anyone know how to delete an old AOL screen name and update to a new one?

  • Aol screen name conversion problems

I have an AOL email for my Apple ID. Apple is converting AOL screen names to an Apple ID. It says to sign out of iTunes and sign back in and follow the steps for the conversion. I sign out, sign in, but no prompt or dialog box comes up asking me to convert.  I have until March 31 to convert, and I don't want to lose all my backup purchases on iTunes. How do I proceed with fixing this issue and converting my AOL email? I have the updated version of iTunes.

You don't have to convert your AOL email address account, that is a separate iTunes account, it's only AOL username accounts (i.e. without the '@aol.com') that need to be converted.
If you don't have any purchases and/or a balance linked to your AOL username then you don't have to do anything, you won't lose anything if the account disappears at the end of the month. If you do then log into that account on your computer's iTunes and you should get the conversion prompt : Convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID - Apple Support

I'm having trouble with using Calculated-User Can Override, it will not honor my overide.  I'm using LiveCycle Designer ES v.8.2

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.
