  • Upon attempting to turn on Wifi error message displays "Unable to turn Wifi on"

    Hi,
I have a Blackberry 8520, and am experiencing some issues with my Wife. I try to turn on the Wifi though the "Manage connections" menu and intead of getting a green tick as I used to when the Wifi was previously working I get a red cross on the right hand side and on the left is a blut tick in the box but its covered in a "misty grey layer" (Sorry that's the best way I can describe it) Never the less, when I press the return key and then reopen the manage connections menu the blue tick on the left has no gone and there is just a red cross on the right again. Let me tell you the steps I have previously followed
. Numerous soft and hard resets
    .Security wipe
    .Router Reset
.Connecting to other Networks without success(College Network and Starbucks)
.There are also 3 other BB devices in my house all of which ARE NOTexperiencing any similar problems and can connect to the house's router without any problems
    .Resent service books
.Deleted and re added my router
The phone is operating on the latest OS (I think it 5.01 ???) I can't think of any recently added apps that I have downloaded/updated.
I have also dropped my phone in the bath but the Wifi was working after this.
Just another issue if you have any ideas. My phone charges perfectly when there is charge in the battery Ie: Low battery but not fully dead!! However, The phone will not charge when the battery is compltly drained.Any ideas!
Any reply will be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time

Sorry, Im not experienciing probems with my Wife but my WIFI!!

  • TS1398 my iphone 4s wont connect to wifi  its like unable to turn it on

My iphone wont connect to wifi is like unable to turn it on

    Hello geordiebell,
It sounds like your phone is not connecting to your Wi-Fi network. You can use the troubleshooting from the following article to help get that issue resolved:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the above issues:
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network
Verify that you're attempting to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Make sure you're entering your Wi-Fi password correctly. Passwords may be case sensitive and may contain numbers or special characters.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • TS1398 My Ipad was working but I now can't access the internet. I have tried resetting and turning Wifi on and off.  It is just showing as buffering all the time?  Please help

My Ipad was working on the internet but it now won't connect.  I have tried resetting the network and turning Wifi on and off.  When trying to connect it is continuously buffering.  Can anyone please help??  Thanks in advance

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • HT1695 My wi-fi option is greyed out and I am unable to turn it on and connect to wifi. How can I fix this?

A few days ago my iphone decided to stop connecting to wi-fi. I tried to connect to different wi-fi connections but my phone does not pick up any. Now my "turn wi-fi on" option is greyed out and I am unable to turn it on. I have tried reseting the network connections as well as reseting the iphone back to original settings. My network provider couldnt help. I dont know what else to do??

I had same problem. I removed the back cover, and warmed wi-fi module by hairdryer of my wife). five days wi-fi works great. I do not know what will happen next.
during operation iphone must be turned off. time of heating is near five minutes. wifi module is located upper the battery, on the upper right corner of device.

  • TS1398 i am unable to turn on the Wi-Fi.

i am unable to turn on the Wi-Fi.

I had the exact same issue with a 2 year old iPhone. I read up on it all day and tried everything. Last ditch - I tried  a weird solution I found online and it worked. Overheat the iPhone gently with a hot hair dryer until it gives the Temperature alert and goes into recovery mode.
Now put it in a Ziplock bag and place it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes. If it comes back on you are ready to do teh following.
Go to Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings. Reset it.
This takes a few mins. Once complete - force reboot the iPhone holding down the Home and Power buttons for about 10 second simultaneously. Once you see the Apple reboot let go.
It's weird - it was my last roll of the dice - but it worked. I was able to switch on the WiFi and it connected.
There is a Canadian post online where many people have had the same success

  • HT6010 Unable to turn on wifi on my iPhone 4 after the iOS 7.03 update.  Is there a fix for this?

After installing the iOS 7.0.3 update on my iPhone 4S I am unable to turn on wifi.  Is there a fix for this?

    Not really.
I upgraded to ios 8.0.2 and the problem goes on.
I restored it to factory settings, and started installing every app, one by one, and the Copy + Paste problem still happens.
    I have an iPhone 4S 32GB

    Hello

    unable to turn on wifi
    what the solution??

    Hello Nivine80,
Thanks for the question. I understand that your Wi-Fi option on an iPhone 4S is greyed out. The following article explains this issue and potential resolution:
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Verify that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
    2. Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings
    3. Ensure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
    4. If your issue is still unresolved, perform a software restore in iTunes.
If you are still unable to turn Wi-Fi on, please contact Apple for support and service options.

  • Curve 9360 unable to turn on wifi

Whenever i try turning on my wifi, the little box just goes gray for a while, and then goes back to normal. So whenever i go under manage connections and i try turning it on it says "unable to turn on wifif". If you click troubleshoot and click on wifi diagnostics, under blackberry infrastructure the connecting box has an red x in it. If i view it it says "connecting: error". It seems to have started after i updated something and the restarted my phone. I dont know if that has anything to do with it but anyways if anyone could help me i would greatly appreciate it !

OK...then we cannot target the specific cause and must instead do the most drastic things.
First step, get a good full backup of your BB:
    1) If you are on less than BBM7, backup your BBM Contacts to Device or Media Card Memory
KB20554 How to back up and restore the BlackBerry Messenger contact list
    2) Via Mass Storage Mode, copy the entire contents of your Device and Media Card Memory to your computer
KB11879 What is mass storage mode
    3) Take a full backup of your BB to your computer via the Desktop Software
KB12487 How to back up BlackBerry smartphone data using BlackBerry Desktop Software for Windows
Make sure you have a good separate inventory of all of your add-on apps...most especially those you obtain from other than AppWorld. If you only obtain apps from AppWorld, then you should be OK as it will help you reinstall them later, including those you purchased. But, for non-AppWorld, you need to check those vendors out as to what you have to do in order to reacquire and reactivate your apps from them.
Further, make sure you 100% know your current BB ID credentials (both the UserID and the Password)...you will need them.
    Now, perform a Device WIPE:
KB14058 How to delete all data and applications from the BlackBerry smartphone using the Security Wipe option
KB16307 Actions performed by the BlackBerry smartphone during the removal of stored user and application data
After it reboots, it will likely make you do a few things, including re-associate to a BB ID...be sure to use the EXACT same BB ID credentials that you originally associated to that BB. As soon as you are done with all of the things it makes you do, immediately proceed to trying the WiFi. Before bothering with anything else, we need to know if this worked or not.
If it did not work, then stop now and let me know...
If it did work, then proceed with this:
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Now proceed to restore from the backup you took:
KB10339 How to use BlackBerry Desktop Software to restore data to a BlackBerry smartphone from a backup file
Now check the contents of your Device and Media Card Memory areas...if they are not fully populated as you recall, use what you copied to your computer to put back anything to the BB.
Now restore your BBM Contacts, as per the KB way above.
Now reinstall your apps from AppWorld as well as other locations that you may have obtained apps from (that inventory you took up top).
    Good luck!
