TS1398 what happens when I reset network settings?

what happens when I reset network settings on I Phone 5?

Hi Jim Blau1!
The answer to your question can be found in this article that you have linked, about troubleshooting iOS Wi-Fi network connections:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
Specifically, I believe this statement will answer your question:
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.
Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • What happens if I reset network settings on my iphone5

I've backed up my iphone5 and now I am thinking of trying to reset network settings to see if that fixes my built in camera that decided to stop working right before Christmas. What exactly happens if I reset network settings?

Reset network settings erases all saved wi-fi networks and settings and resets the cellular network connection, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the camera.

  • What will happen when I 'reset network settings'?

I lost my personal hotspot setting. Just wondering what will happen if I reset. Will my phone automatically reset or will I need passwords, etc?

Your phone will not reset, BUT any wi-fi connection you had will be erased. In order to rejoin them you will need the security key.

What will happen to my phone if I reset all settings.? Will I lose contacts and pics?

    From page 168 of the iphone_user_guide 5.1
    Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset.

  • HT201559 what happens when i reset? do I lose any data?

what happens when i reset? do I lose any data? or is there any chance of losing data?

If you mean the "Press the Home and Power buttons at the same time" type of reset, then no, you do not lose anything. It's basically the same process that a computer goes through when you restart it.
You do, however, want to make sure that you always have a current backup on iCloud or iTunes.

  • What happens when you reset the network settings

My ringer is not working. Will not ringer, only vibrates.  What will happen if I reset the network settings?

Did you check the "mute" button located on top of volume buttons?
Reset network settings option will reset all network settings, including passwords (excluding passcode), VPN, and APN settings.
Just to give you an idea.

  • What happens if I reset all settings?

I was wondering what would happen if I choose to reset all settings? I was told that if I reset it all my ipod wouldn't crash as often as it is doing right now. What will I have to do again? What is going to be erased? And in what way will this help my ipod?

Yes it may help with crashing. It does:
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

    ?

Depends on how what you mean by reset. If you are talking about just a hard reset, then the answer is nothing really. It's the equivalent of rebooting your PC.

What happens if i reset my network settings on my iphone 4s?

    Hi richoch3t
I have found the following information regarding resetting network settings, and what the effects are.
iPhone User Guide (For iOS 6.1 Software)
    manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
    Page 139
Reset network settings:  When you reset network settings, your list of previously used networks and VPN settings not installed by a configuration profile are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off
and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and “Ask to Join Networks” settings remain turned on. To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > Profile, then select the profile and tap Remove. This also removes other settings or accounts provided by the profile.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I reset network settings on my iPhone. However now it looks as if my iPhone and iPad are no longer linked. They are both connected to my apple account but when I send an imessage from one it is not picked up by the other. What do I do?

I reset network settings on my iPhone. However now it looks as if my iPhone and iPad are no longer linked. They are both connected to my apple account but when I send an imessage from one it is not picked up by the other. What do I do? If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks x

Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both your iPhone and your iPad to make sure that the following are all true:
    (1) you have selected the same Apple ID on both devices,
    (2) you have the same entries checked under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both devices,
    (3) you have the same entry checked under "Start new conversations from:" on both devices,
    and
    (4) that the entry checked in #3 is one of those checked in #2 on both devices.
When you say it has affected your iCloud account, what effect has it had?

I started getting a Timed Out error message on my iPhone 5 when trying to browse the internet tthat reads Page could not be loaded.  Connection timed out.  I performed a Reset Network Settings and am still getting the error message.  What is the fix?

Thanks so much for more direction.
I realized that I bought this iPod T4 about a year ago, so decided to check the date and it is still under the 1 year ltd. warranty until 21 Dec.  I contacted Apple via Chat and was informed that the problem may lie in the version of iTunes I was running 10.7.  Today Apple released v. 11 of iTunes which I was instructed to download.  It's TOTALLY different from iTunes 10.7 - drastically different in fact.
The Apple Chat Rep set up a phone call appointment forl 8:00 pm ET tonight where another Rep will call me to make sure the restore was accomplished OK.  With v. 11 of iTunes I can't even find the restore option!!!  The phone Rep will have to help me navigate v. 11 of iTunes.  It doesn't seem intuitive at all.  Maybe it's just me?!?!
Thank you for sending this new link for firmware.  It's not clear to me right now whether I'll need it or not.  The phone Rep will probably somehow be able to resolve the problem.  If not, they'll probably send me to the nearest Apple store if the problem is hardware, as it would be covered under the warranty.  I will give another update as to what transpires as a result of the phone call with the Apple Rep.
Again, thank you so much for helping me.
