That's just a watered down description though.

Cracked screens aren't cover by warranty sadly. That's why you need apple insurance to cover these devices. I've been through 4 iPhone 4's haha.

- That seems way too long. A backup should take less than 15 minutes unless yu have a lot of stuff one the iPod. For your information, musiic and the apps themselves and some other stuff is not part of the backup, they are synced to the iPod from your library during a latter stage of the update.
- Did you get any errors? Does it ook like iTunes has frozen?
- I would close iTunes andthen disconnect the iPod and then try again. The only problem you may have is that you may have to place the iPod in recovery mode to update and that would erase the iPod preventing making a backup.

Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior

6 months after purchase I updated my iPod touch as recommend by iTunes.
It has not worked since that day. It frozen (disabled) with a "connect to
iTunes" icon displayed...that is the only thing it does. itunes does not
recognize the iPod. My Windows7 computer recognizes an Apple device.
Other computers recognize the devise but if iTunes resided on that

To change the ID:
For iMessage, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive (Receive At in iOS 5), tap the ID sign out, sign back in using the other ID.
For FaceTime, do the same thing in Settings>Facetime.
For Purchasing, do this in Settings>iTunes & App Stores (Settings>Store in iOS 5).
For iCloud, you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account. Before deleting the account, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll or you will lose them. To do this, open the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll. Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On iPod. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
