TS140 install Windows 2012 on RAID 1

Hello, I'm planning to install a Windows 2012 Server on a TS140 using RAID 1 configuration. As I read in the manuals, RAID is most often used with CSM (Compatibility Support Module), but as Windows 2012 supports UEFI it could be used with drivers.Which one is the recommended configurarion?Besides installing the driver are any drawbacks in any configuration? Thanks in advance,Pablo Moleri

Yes, I'm booting from DVD.
Yes, I have CSM Enabled but didn't know about Boot Priority, so I'm using
the default, which in my case caused the TS140 to fail, that is it didn't
see the RAID drives.
Problem installing Windows Server 2012 R2 on partition > 2.2 TB, see
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2604034 - Error 0x80042468 received
when creating a single partition on drive greater than 2.2TB during install
of Windows
So in a nutshell, your saying TS140 RAID can boot with UEFI enabled, I just
need to change the boot priority to what?
thanks,
Jeff Jensen

  • Installing Windows 2012 via USB

Thank you.  It's working.  Now I hope I can turn that trial version into an activated version once I have the media cd.

    Hello Everyone,
Recently have a client who'd ask me to install Windows 2012 Server Essentials on to their new server but the server has no CD/DVD Drive.
Is there a way to download the ISO (already have), move that over to a USB Stick and then boot the server off the USB stick and install Windows 2012 Server Essentials via the USB Stick?
    Cheers

  • 870A-G46 - Issues installing windows 7 using Raid 0 on 2 SSDs.

I took 2 60GB SSD's and created a RAID 0 array. After that I tried to install Windows 7. Put the disk in and went through the setup. Got to the point where it asks what drive I would like install it on. Nothing showed up.
I successfully set up the 2 SSD's in Raid 0 (via BIOS, "ctrl+F"...and so on) so they show as 1 drive.
I've researched and researched for solutions but cannot find any.

    Any ideas????

You need a raid driver for Windows to see your array.

  • Can I install windows on a RAID hard drive?

    Hi,
I recently purchased a used macPro. This mac pro had a raid set so 4 1TB hard drives were created to make one 4 GB partition. This made the raid utility pop up frequently saying there was something wrong so I just broke the RAID set and tried to set the disk up as their on storage partitions (Just as if they were 4 normal hard drives. Now that I did this, only 3 out of the 4 hard drives are visible in disk utility. Also, I reinstalled macosx snow leopard and tried installing bootcamp but when I partition the hard drive and restart using the windows installation disk, it doesn't show that I have any available hard drives to install windows on. Is this because of my RAID disks? (Sorry I don't know anything about raid disks and didn't know this computer had it before I bought it)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

As stated in the Mac Pro RAID card FAQ you can't install Windows if you have the drives controlled by that card.
Question: Why can't I install Boot Camp on my Mac Pro or Xserve that uses a RAID?
Answer: Boot Camp does not support the installation of Windows onto a Mac using hardware or software RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Drives). Boot Camp is not supported on the Xserve with or without the Xserve RAID Card installed.

Look inside and see if there is a RAID controller from Apple, proably top slot #4. Also look in System Profile under SATA interface.
Pull non-graphic card, seems you don't need it if you have one.
You are not getting something: internal hard drives are one thing. RAID card is another. The RAID card just replaces the normal SATA controller that otherwise interfaces.
Take a look at the photos and manual for the card.

You can find the above from the Mac Pro Support home page I posted above.

  • Trouble Installing Windows 2012 R2 (Windows can't be installed on this drive)

<p>I "binged" this error message and it seems to be beaten to death but my problem is not resolved. Basically, Im trying to install 2012 R2 on a server which currently also has CentOS6.3. Im not doing a dual boot and I want only Windows 2012.</p><p>During
the install process I hit error message below. I have tried partitioning my disk but I end up with Primary partitions and same error as below. I tried pointing the Load Driver option to the right driver for the SUperMicro motherboard but it comes back to the
same error. What am I missing and how can I fix this. All of the other links that the search found point to driver issues but did not mention which drivers exactly. Seems like I cannot upload images, but the error basically shows me
    Drive 0 partition 1
    Driver 0 Unallocated space
and below it shows me that Windows cant be installed on this drive.
    <br />

If you deleted all partitions (don't try formatting), you should have been presented with a volume with no partitions during the installation procedure.  You should be able to proceed at that point and Windows will initialize, partition, and format
the disk according to its needs.
If the disk is being shown to you but it still won't accept it for installation (it would be really helpful to get the exact message you are receiving), that is a little strange.  Possibly it requires a different driver.  At the screen that presents
the volume to use for installation, there is also an option to load a driver.  (I have to do this all the time because I am regularly using drivers that are not on the Microsoft installation media).  You have to have access to the driver in order
to be able to load it.  If the driver is on a CD, you remove the Windows DVD, insert the driver CD, browse to the location of the driver and install it, remove the driver CD, insert the Windows DVD, click refresh on the window, and you should be able
to proceed, if the problem was a driver problem.
The only other time I have had a situation like yours is when I have improperly zoned/masked a LUN from a SAN, but it sounds like you are dealing with local storage, so that most likely will not come into play.
Is this the only hard drive on the system?

www.Nliteos.com great program copy your windows CD to a Directory then run Nlite select different options you want, like slipstream service packs and hotfixes, drivers, tweaks, remove stuff from install like MSN, outlook express, do a true unattended intsall (input your key and all that) its pretty powerful then put in a blank CD and hit burn and out spits a new XP disc thats custom for you.
i dont recommend putting ALL your drivers IE video card, sound and all that just the basics then use the proper installers for the big drivers.
check out the forums on the site lots of great info

  • Install windows 2012 on IBM server x3550

    Hi all,
I want to install my windows server 2012 on a IBM server (model x3550). On the server is already installed Linux protected with user and password (but I have forgot these), so when I try to run my windows server the system goes again to ask me user and password
to enter inside linux and I am not able to install it (same thing happens when I try to access on Bios from the server itself)...
    Can anyone help me.

    Hi,
So the "Linux protected with user and password" function actually prevent user from using this computer?
If it starts AFTER boot into Linux, it should work by booting from a CD or a USB device to install Windows Server 2012.
But if it prevent access BIOS you may need to contact IBM for resetting the computer as it is out of Windows boundary.
In addition, maybe you can attach the hard disk to another computer to format it?

But I got a problem about couldn't install the O.S on.
***And about the VGA, whenever I plug it in my mobo, my monitor shows black screen as it doesn't recognize the VGA card. What happen if I install window then add the VGA card later? Will it affect on my system later?
And what should I do to install RAID 0 with my stuff? I appreciate all supports.
Thank for read and answer my topic!

The 660ti will require a bios update to use most likely.
Is the system stable enough to flash? The forum flash tool included memtest, run this an so long as no errors or crashes, go ahead a flash to the most recent bios.

  • HP Proliant ML360 Server: How hard would it be to install Windows 2012 R2 on an older server like this one?

    Hello,
I am an it tech in need of some help. I don't mess with our servers that often, and I could use some guidance in setting up this particular machine. We would like to use this server with 2012 R2 for Michigan M-step caching machine, and possibly setting up
a ticket system for maintenance, and technology repairs. This server was configured before I got here, and I would like to delete the current novell software and Server 2003, and start over fresh. Is there a manual that you could recommend, or a step by step
instruction guide that will show me the correct steps to take. I have watched youtube videos, read different articles, however they really didn't give me the information that I am looking for to set up this server. Any help you can give me would be greatly
    appreciated!!
    Thank you,
    Angie

The very first thing you need to determine is if the ML360 is a 32-bit or 64-bit server.  If it is 32-bit, it's a no-go.  Windows Server 2012 is 64-bit only.
The next issue is installation media.  Does the ML360 have a DVD or CD reader?  2012 R2 comes on DVD.  It's possible to install from USB, but that's if the system supports it.  Does the ML360 support booting from USB?
Yes, the smart start capability is neat, but it is generally geared to a specific release of an operating system for a server that supports that operating system.  The ML 360 is old enough that smart start may not work on it.
I would go out to HP.com and download all the latest drivers for the ML360 and put those on a CD.  I would also get the latest BIOS/Firmware.  Make sure the system is updated to the latest BIOS/Firmware.
Before trying to give any further suggestions, it would help to know exactly what you have.

  • Help with installing Windows with a RAID array

    Hi!
I hope you can help me.   When I try setting up Windows XP Home I can get as far as the press F6 section of the installation. I formatted a floppy disk and installed the Nvidia drivers just as it descibes in the manual.  However, when i'm prompted to add the Nvidia RAID drivers I get the message "The file nvraid.sys could not be found." and if I try to install the Nvidia storage control drivers I get the message "nvatabus.sys could not be found.  IF I use the nforce3 SATA RAID Driver floppy provided by MSI I actually get all the way through the formatting of the hard drive but when i'm promted to press enter to start loading the Nvidia drivers into Windows it stops and will not go any further.
I have checked the the BIOS settings and double checked the BIOS settings.  At first, I tried installing with the hard drives installed in ports #1 and #2.  I have tried connecting the two sata 120GB Maxtors to sata ports 3 and 4.
Under Integrated Peripherals, Enable RAID for SATA #3 and #4, disable port 1+2, and enable port 3+4 and vice versa for the previous setup.
I would then save changes and restart and at the nVidia RAID BIOS screen where it would usually say to press F10 to check the array setup.
I am frustrated and stumped.  Please help me...Your help is much appreciated, thank you

Maybe you have not put the files in the correct directories needed to install the files from the floppy, or maybe your floppy is just messed up Why not just use the floppy that is supplied to you by MSI? (Psst its in the box )

Am configuring my laptop for demo so installing windows 2012 r2 essentials (which requires to be the DC). I know SharePoint 2013 server is not recommended to be installed on the DC. I have seen the Workflow 2013 is not supported on the DC but
still can work with the 2010 workflow. any other SharePoint 2013 features are not available on the DC ? From the SQL Server perspective this will only be a security issue the way I see, but am using this laptop for demo/test only.

HI,As you said,SharePoint 2013 does not support installation on to a domain controller. A single label domain (SLD) names or single label forests is also not supported. Because the use of SLD names is not a recommended practice, . Therefore, there may be
incompatibility issues when SharePoint 2013 are implemented in a single label domain environment.Apart from this no issues.you can find the detailed installation of sharepoint 2013 in below.
