TS140 RAID - no ROM configuration utility on boot

Might someone help me setup RAID on a new TS140 (70A4001LUX). I have installed a 128GB SSD and intend to use Windows 7 (64 bit).
As a first step, I've gone into the BIOS and under Devices->ATA Drive Setup, and selected RAID, as I intend to purchase a few larger drives for this purpose later.
However, when I reboot, I do not see the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology ROM configuration utility" upon system start (as noted in the user manual). Instead, the machine complains there is no operating system.
Any suggestions would be most appeciated.
Thanks!!

I just picked up a TS140 and noticed the same issue. The following steps / BIOS settings fixed it for me. (From the downloadable Configuring ThinkServer RAID 100 on the TS140 and TS440 guide by Lenovo.)
1. In the BIOS Setup Utility, go to the “Devices” tab and select “ATA Drive Setup.” Set “SATA Controller” to “Enabled” and “Configure SATA as” to “RAID.”
2. “Hard Disk Pre-delay can be set to “Disabled” (the default).
3. Select the “Startup” tab from the menu, then select “CSM” and set it to “Enabled.”
(Note: for "Boot Mode", I have found that "UEFI Only" works best for me with RAID enabled.)
F10 to save & reboot. You should now see the option (for a few seconds) to enter the RAID configuration utility via Control-I.

• Configuration Utility - Is this supported on new Thinkpads

Can anyone confirm whether the Lenovo Configuration Utility is still supported on new Thinkpads. Looking at the Lenovo website it doesn't look as though anything has been updated since 2006 when the X60/T60 were current models.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4ZFRG3
If this is no longer supported what has this been replaced by if anything?
Many thanks

Hi Paul:
Although I am no expert on this subject, I think that the "ThinkPad Configuration Utility" has been replaced by additional functionality that Microsoft built into the operating system of Windows Vista.
There is now a tool (program?) that comes with Windows Vista called "Mobility Center". This appears to include most of the functionality that Lenovo used to provide in the configuration utility. Lenovo has released a little add-on tweak that gives the Microsoft provided Mobility Center a bit of extra functionality to control features that are unique to the ThinkPad, such as the keyboard light. That Lenovo add-on is called "Mobility Center Customization", and it is available from the DDFM.
For folks who are still using earlier OS, such as XP, there has probably been no need to update the ThinkPad Configuration Utility since 2006. By this I mean that the XP operating system is fully mature, the ThinkPad Configuration Utility is fully mature, and it is unlikely that either will be updated again unless some problem is identified.

• RAID Option ROM utility unavailable.

The thing is that I cannot access the RAID Option ROM utility during bootup, just because I don't the see the "Press <Ctrl-F> to enter RAID Option ROM utility..." option at all.
I've recently updated the BIOS to 2.0 to install Windows 8. Don't know if that has something to do. As I said, I don't see the "Press <Ctrl-F> to enter RAID Option ROM utility" option at all. The RAID 0 I installed Windows 8 on was setup before updating BIOS to 2.0. As per MSI statement, once the BIOS was updated to 2.0 it cannot be downgraded.
What I want to do is to add a 3rd. disk to my RAID 0 array to expand the capacity. I tried to do it under RAIDXpert utility under Windows, but I don't see any options to add a new device to the existing RAID 0.
Do any of you know if there's another key secuense (but Ctrl + F as the user guide states) to enter the RAID Option ROM utility during bootup?. Any help will really be apreciaed. Thank you very much!.
My sys. specs are:
Mainboard: MSI A75MA-G55 with 2.0 BIOS
Processor: AMD APU A6-3670
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
HDD: 3 x 320 GB each:

1 x MAXTOR STM3320613AS (Maxtor)
1 x Seagate ST3320413AS (Seagate)
RAID 0 (JBOD) composed by the Western Digital + the Maxtor. The Seagate is the one I want to add to the RAID 0

try >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed, if no change, it appear to be bios bug, if the same worked fine with older version.

• P67A-GD55 Rev B3, When a new bios including Intel Raid Oprtion Rom 10.6.0.1091

P67A-GD55 Rev B3, When a new bios including Intel Raid Oprtion Rom 10.6.0.1091 ?
Hello,
I am the owner of a MSI motherboard P67A-GD55 (Rev B3).
The operating system Windows 7 Pro 64 bit is installed on a disk in AHCI OCZ Vertex 3120 Go SATA0 mounted on the port (version 3).
I get many bugs and blue screens.
This would be resolved with the latest driver Intel Rapid Storage Technology 10.6.0.1022.
It must been associated with a bios with the Intel RAID Option ROM 10.6.0.1091.
The latest bios for my motherboard is 1.E (or 1.14) version which includes Intel RAID Option ROM 10.5.0.1034.
Are there plans to release a new bios with the new ROM?
If not, is there a way to include the last Intel Option Rom in the bios 1.E?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
SM

• Intel raid controller ROM in MSI 875 updated yet?

Intel recently enabled the raid 1 option for the raid controller in their ICH5R chipset.
On the Intel website under the "Important information on Intel RAID Option ROM version" section Intel write the following:
Quote
In order to fully utilize the new features included in version 3.5 of the Intel® Application Accelerator RAID Edition, Intel recommends that you first upgrade your system BIOS to one that includes version 3.5 of the Intel RAID Option ROM. You can obtain this system BIOS from your motherboard or system manufacturer.
The latest bios for my 875P Neo-FIS2R MS-6758 was released 2003-6-26 so I find it hard to believe that the 3.5 raid ROM is included since the software was (officially) released on 7-7-2003.
Furthermore I still have no raid 1 option when configuring my intel raid controller - only performance arrays can be set up.
When will MSI release a new bios with the latest Intel raid controller ROM?
Best regards
Andreas

I also humbly await the arrival of the (875P)6758 1.7 Bios update to enable RAID1......Any ideas on when we might get it?...any one?........eeerrrr...how about an ftp site address for a beta bios? anyone?..speak up I can't hear you back there........
Thanks

Sounds like you may have a harddrive issue. You are probably going to need to get that changed out and then install the OS X again to get it going.

• Cannot repair disk errors for OSX boot volume using Disk Utility while booted from different disk

I have tried three times to repair my boot volume (OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard) permissions using Disk Utility while booted up on a different volume (running Snow Leopard 10.6.4). After hours of Disk Utility reporting that it HAD fixed the problems, an immediate click of "Verify permissions" immediately results in the apparently same continuous stream of permission errors.

Then better luck next time around. Here are some ideas for then:
How to Install Lion Successfully - You must have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Installed
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.3.) if DW cannot fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.
C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
D. To upgrade to Lion:
Purchase the Lion Installer from the Mac App Store. The download will start quickly. Lion is nearly 4 GBs so a fast internet connection is essential. Download time could run upwards of 4 hours depending upon network conditions and server demands at the time.
Boot From The Lion Installer which is located in your Applications folder.
Follow instructions for installation.

• Deployment Utility copies my MAX configuration to the target system

Hi,
I am creating an Installer for TestStand 3.5 and I have found that my MAX device configuration is carried to the target system. How can I prevent the installer from coping this configuration to the target system? My Labview VIs use VISA 4.1 to access Serial Ports.

Hello goldee,
In the TestStand Deployment Utility, select the Installer Options tab, and then click the Drivers and Components... button. Make sure the Include Hardware Configuration from Measurement & Automation Explorer checkbox is unchecked.
Let me know if that fixes it or not.

• RD230 - RAID configuration

Good afternoon,
I'm setting up an RD230 (4100 model) and i've stalled at the RAID configuraiton. The EasyStartup cd (3.1.3) keeps telling me that i need to set the SATA mode to SW RAID in the Bios. However the only options i get are "Enhanced IDE" & RAID, neither of which pick up the drives.
I've tried updating the BIOS to no effect. Struggling a bit here if someone could give me a hand.
Thanks
Solved!
Go to Solution.

We managed to work around it.
It turned out that what we were sold was incorrect, we were sold 3 SAS drives on a SAS back plate without a RAID Controller.. So the only option was for SW RAID.
We opted to use 4 SATA drives instead of the SAS drives, from this we were able to use the Intel RAID controller on boot up. It literally does flash up in a split second though, so you have to be quick.

• TS140 Configuration

Based off what I am seeing from the Lenovo website, there are many different TS140 configurations. The one that I'm interested in is the unit "without" hard drives and an operating system ($399 on the Lenovo site). The processor is advertised as the Intel XEON E3-1225 v3. Based off some of the benchmark tests, this particular processor rates low in the ratings. My question is this... I'm assuming the motherboard is a Lenovo unit so I want to know what the upgrade path for processors is. Where would I find this information? Other than that, the unit seems very capable.
Thanks in advance

There are no option parts to upgrade the CPU on the TS140. There are however different models of the TS140, some of which have different processors. You may want to check the other models to see which processors they have to answer the compatibility question

• S10 RAID configuration = AHCI = Blue Screen under Vista x64

I'm trying to setup a SATA RAID 1 configuration on my new S10 and it's really a nightmare...if I enable the Raid option in the BIOS it enables also the AHCI feature and my Vista x64 (pre-installed on the S10) don't boot, it just show me a blue screen that I don't even have the time to read. If I disable the AHCI option it's ok I can't boot again.
The question is simple, how can I achieve to install an updated AHCI driver for Vista x64 in order to boot and then use the RAID features of my S10 ?
I've tried do download the latest version of the IMSM from Intel (x64 vista version) but it does'nt want to install saying that I haven't the required configuration. My S10 uses an ICH 9 chipset, so I don't understant why I can't install this update.
Please what is the solution to have AHCI and RAID working on an S10 WITHOUT REINSTALLING Vista (I don't have any installation CD and don't wan't to) ???? Note that my system is up to date regarding the ThinkVantage drivers (and windows updates also)
Thanks by advance for your help
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I finally achieve to configure AHCI under Vista x64 on my S10 (but still a problem with RAID..), here's how I did :
- Open registry, go to the Key \HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
- Set the DWORD "Start" at 0 (it was 4 on my system)
- Restart your computer then Enable immediatly the AHCI feature in the BIOS
- Vista will start without BSOD using it's default SATA AHCI driver. Let it detect & install your AHCI periphals before going to the next step
- Install the latest Lenovo IMSM update for S10 from here : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69984.html.
- Restart the computer it should boot without any blue screen, go to the Vista device manager and check that your IDE ATA/ATAPI controller is "Intel(R) ICH9 SATA AHCI Controller".
AHCI is active now, but RAID still doesn't work...here's what I did :
- I backup my main HDD with R&R (after having installed AHCI)
- I restart and enable the SATA RAID in the BIOS
- Restart again, CTRL+I to open IMSM and create my RAID 1 array (2x500GB) under the name "Volume0" (all parameters to default)
- Ok, raid array created, I now boot from my R&R emergency CD and restore my backup
- 3 hours later I reboot...and blue screen again just when Vista starts (seems to be the same BSOD than with AHCI)
- if I disable the RAID option in BIOS the (but let AHCI enabled) Vista boots again and everything seems fine, and it seems that my raid array is still configured for Windows since I see a Volume0 drive in the device manager. But RAID is disabled in the BIOS so what ?
I am lost, I spent 2 full days on these AHCI/RAID problems and nothing seems to work correctly. Each test on RAID configuration needs 3 hours of restoration. I am very dissapointed to see how RAID is complicated to configure on the S10, it's is exactly to avoid this kind of problem that I bought a "workstation" and it's a nightmare.
Hope you can help me, thanks.

• How do you break a RAID 1 created in Disk Utility and retain data?

Good Morning all !!
Quick subject question.
Background: I have 2-3 TB of important data that i use only rarely. I purchased two 4TB external drives. I could not use a 2 drive raid enclosure because of the fan noise in the studio. I selected 800 firewire fanless enclosures. The technican talked me into using the Disk Utility Raid 1 in Mountain Lion OS.
Problem: I only plug them in when needed probably once a week. The raid rebuilds every time I use the raid. That takes about a day. This arrangement is less than ideal.
Question: Can I break the raid and still have the data intact on 2 separate drives? Of coarse I would do it when they a rebuilt.
Thanks.
