TS1424 I can't authorize my new computer! There is no menu under "Store" it just sends me to the store. My old computer's dead! HELP!

Okay. My old laptop died. I didn't use iTunes much on it but I had it and I'd authorized that and my iPhone. On my account it showed the old computer and my iPhone as Authorized.
I went to the support to find out how to authorize this computer when I could not download the albums I bought. The support tab told me to open the Store menu in iTunes and choose to authorize the computer on its menu.
Trouble is, there is no "Store" menu. Clicking on Store takes me to a page that's mostly trying to sell me albums I never heard of in genres I don't like and has a tiny little section off to the side where I can check my account, redeem, look at what I purchased and something else but not "authorize new computer."
My old computer is toast. It's dead. I can't access iTunes through it. On the new one I have iTunes downloaded for the 64 bit version and I've got Windows 7.
I need to know why I don't have that menu or that option and how I can authorize this computer without it.

Thanks for the question. I understand that you are attempting to access the "Store" menu, however it sounds like your menubar is not visible. The following article outlines how to show the menubar:

Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0. Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

To authorize the Windows 8 computer, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.
It isn't possible to individually deauthorize a computer which is dead or which you don't have either physical or network access to.

I now have a different computer and I am using my iMac address for my account, When I attempt to play tunes that I purchased and downloaded under the former account, I get a message that says I must authorize this computer.If I try to authorize the new computer using the old account, I get a message that account no longer exists (which is true). If I try to authorize using the new account, I get a message telling me this computer is already authorized (also true). But it still won't let me play songs authorized under the old account! I have de-authorized two of the possible five devices on iTunes. I am attampting to authorize a Dell Laptop computer, but it keeps telling me that I must deauthorize another device.   I have exited the program and re-opened it, but it made no difference. Likewise, I've rebooted the system but still no change. Any ideas??

If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

The page Roger posted is good but was very confusing for me. I'll try to help you out since that article was confusing to me.
In iTunes, Click your name/email that is directly to the left of the search bar.
Click account info.
Sign in.
Click this button where the mouse is:
(the screenshot is from an older iTunes on windows, but it is the same on the new versions)
Done!
You can only use that button once per year, so try to remember to deauthorize computers before you get rid of them.

If the menu bar is not visible, hit CTRL+B then Store > Autorize this computer
iTunes Store keeps a purchase history for your Apple ID and allows ypou to redownload purchases. Any other media add to iTunes from outside the store (CDs, etc..) are not uploaded to iTunes unless you have purchased iTunes Match. Those items you will need to add from your backups.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

I have never de-authorized a computer. I have gotten rid of all the old computers after I reformatted the hard drive. I reciently upgraded the software on my current PC and now I can not log in to authorize/de-authorize my computers.

The problem is I have already authorized 5 computers over the last several years. When I try to authorize my new computer it says "To authorize this computer you must first deauthorize one of the other computers". All of the other computers have been disposed of.

First download Adobe Digital Editions from: Download | Adobe Digital Editions.
After that follow these steps:
If you aren't prompted to authorize ADE the first time you open it, you can go to Help > Authorize Computer to start the process manually.
If you have an Adobe ID, enter it along with your password.
If you do not have an Adobe ID, click Create an Adobe ID to make one on Adobe's website.
Once you're done, return to the "Computer Authorization" dialog box and enter your Adobe ID and password.
Click Authorize. Your computer is now authorized with your Adobe ID.
IMPORTANT: If you choose to authorize your computer without an ID, you will still be able to view eBooks on your computer. However, you will not be able to transfer or download those titles to other devices.
