TS1424 I downloaded I tunes u ap. then I could not open I tunes other than in the u ap, even after I deleted the ap it still prompts me to open I tunes in the u ap. if I open the music ap and try to go to the apple store I am told cannot connect to it.

After I had downloaded the I tunes u ap, I could no longer use I tunes as I was always prompted to open I tunes in the u ap , but there is no alternative given to use normal I tunes. I tried deleting the ap, resetting my I pad, and turning it completely off and on. Neither can I now open music and go to the apple store from there, as I get an error message to say that I cannot connect to the apple store. I am connected to a wifi, and other devices connect ok, so it's not a problem of connectivity

It's on my I pad it will not work. Not a wifi problem. Am not able to connect anywhere, even in apple store

The way I read that comment – you seem to suggest the Mac was broken before the third party replaced the disk - is that the case or was it working before the HD was replaced?
Since the Mac is out of warranty you will have to pay for any repairs wherever you take it. Authorised Apple service centres will be able to get parts whereas any non certified technicians will have to use 'grey market' parts since Apple will not sell parts to the public. These may be reconditioned or not official parts - it's a risk to use them. Visit the Apple store & ask them - there is no point in lying about it being handled by a third party. An Apple tech may be able to tell when they open the case, depending on how meticulous your third party was.
If you are handy with a screwdriver & have tools and a lot of patience you could use a guide on iFixit.com, but there is no indication of why this Mac not booting up.
It could be that the disk is not formatted correctly.
Are you sure the tech copied an OS onto the disk? Did they install the OS for you or did they clone the old disk?
Can you boot from a backup disk or from an install disk? Does the disk appear in Disk Utility when booted from another OS (either the installer or a backup).
'Not booting' can mean so many things, what does booting do exactly? Grey screen, black screen, any noises or tones, any signs of life at all…?
If you look at the iFixit guides you will see many fiddly connectors, if the tech failed to hook them all back up it could explain the failure, or perhaps you just have a disk that is 'dead on arrival' - sometimes that happens. A properly trained technician should be able to figure that one out.

Yes, according to my information that was the model number for what you have. If you aren't sure then open Systemp Profiler and look for the model identifier in the display on the right. Following are the identifiers:

6,1 (this is the Late 2009; it is model number A1342)

I have an old ethernet CAT5 cable. I see they sell ethernet cables in the store. Will one of these cables they sell in the Apple Store give me a better connection, especially since my ethernet cable is pretty much destroyed.

Is the CAT6 ethernet cable they sell good for the regular MBP to ethernet outlet or is buying this a waste of money? My ethernet CAT5 is really old, broken, and I can't beleive anything can move by the twists and knots it has in the cable. would it be better to purchase one of these tht I see in the store?

I have a ethernet cable that is at least 10 years old, and I use it all the time. Nevertheless, if you want to buy one, just order the cheapest one you can find. I don't think the Apple Store sells ethernet cables that are somehow better than any other ones.
Of course, they make the best smartphone out there!

Do other apps connect to the internet on the iPod e.g. Safari ? If they do then try logging out of your account on the iPod by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if it then works.

Itouch won't function, other than showing the apple logo.

I am having trouble with my Itouch. When I hold the sleep button, the apple logo appears then after about 10 seconds, black screen. I have tried to reset it, again the apple logo appears and then a black screen. I have plugged it in to the computer, again, only the apple logo appears. Yes, Apple does have a screening process or else there would be floods of scams. When you get your email receipt, click the Report a Problem link, follow the steps and say the item was not as described (depending on how you define "useless"). Sometimes a bad one slips through.
