TS1424 iTunes start up takes at least five minutes before it opens.

When I select iTunes on my windows 7 it seems like its taking about 5 minutes to start. Any suggestions on how to repair iTunes?

Cancel any downloads that resume on startup, by using the red X button on each download.

  • Macbook Pro BIOS requires at least 1 minute before the Apple logo appears and Chime sounds.

When I cold-boot my MacBook Pro, it takes a least 1 minute before I get the chime and Apple logo.
    Some background on the problem:
After purchase I almost immediately installed Windows 7 on BootCamp and had no problems.
Around 8 months ago I bought a SSD drive and CD-bay kit, put the original HD into the CD bay and the SSD in place of the original HD, installed OSX on the SSD and formatted the original OSX partition, this broke the Windows install.
I tried in vain for around 2 months to repair the Windows partition without having to reinstall it to no avail, so I swapped the positions of the drives.
Since then the Windows & OSX partitions work fine, however from a cold boot it takes upwards of 1 minute before the Apple logo appears and Chime sounds, after that it behaves as expected (maybe 20-30 seconds and I'm fully booted).
Performing a soft restart behaves as expected too (Chime/Logo appear almost immediately and boot time is lightening fast!).
When I close the lid, it exhibits a similar problem in that it takes about 1 minute before it has gone to sleep and I can't do anything to wake it until that time has past.
It's not the end of the world, but it is slightly annoying, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
My guess is some kind of EFI/BIOS problem, but I can't find any other examples of this problem and have no idea how I might fix.

When in OS X go into System Preferences and Select Startup Disk. Then select the OS X entry, even though you are in OS X, and reboot.
Some times the hardware gets confused as to which OS to boot and figuring it out can take some time. Once you select the OS X partition as the OS to boot to it should startup faster.
If not then you have some other problem that I am not familiar with.
You might also want to do a SMC reset, Google for the instructions found on the Apple KB site.

Launch the Console utility and look for messages that might explain the problem.  Look for messages with a significant time gap between them.  If you see such a thing but don't know how to interpret it, post the messages here and someone may be able to explain them.

    Hello,
I had that problem as well and the apple support suggested to turn off the LTE-mode to have a running system and try to exchange the micro-sim by my provider.
    THAT was not an option!
BUT it seems to solve my problem in the following way after trying a lot of possibilties:
In the menue properties/help (don't know the exact english word, because I run my phone in german)
I switched on the nice feature 'flash LED' by incomming calls, msgs, and push infos.
Today the flash feature was responding to different push notes very slowly.
By switching this feature off the LTE-mode-tochscreen-not-responding-problem disappeared.
We tried this on a other iphone, not having the metioned problem, and switched the LED-flash:
the problem appeared. Switching the LED-flash off: problem disappeared!
It seems to be a bug that the LED will hint Calls and MSGs in combination with the LTE mode!
treated my phone very hard today to double check, but its still ok.
    @Apple:
Please fix that issue in the next update.
Hope, this helps you guys as well.

  • TS1702 I bought a song today from iTunes but it cuts off over a minute before the song ends, how can I download it again?

I bought a song today on iTunes and it cuts off over a minute before the song ends, how can I download it again or fix the problem. It happens on my MacBook Pro and my iPod Touch 4G

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the track from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • ITunes stays busy for up to five minutes after starting

Okay, Windows 7 Pro, iTunes 10.3.1.55.  iPod Touch available via wireless.  Nothing from Apple is in my startup list.
When I start my computer, iTunes may or may not start up automatically.  When it does start up, most of the time it displays a busy mouse arrow for up to five minutes.  I can do nothing with iTunes until it finishes its "routine".  I can't even terminate it except with Task Manager.
I've gone through the options and tried to turn off anything that would cause this, such as synching with the iPod.  I keep hoping with each new release that Apple will solve my problem so I can use iTunes when it starts up.
    Help!  This is really annoying!

  • ITunes 10 startup takes more than 5 minutes.....

After updating to iTunes 10 I discovered that starting iTunes takes about 5 to 8 minutes...(spinning beachball)
(configuration: MacBook Pro and iTunes-lib on Synology DS107+ NAS)
And don't tell me I am the only one with this situation...there are hundreds of thousands of Syno-Nas's sold in NL...THE PERFORMANCE OF iTunes has ALWAYS been a *****, but now it's really become STOOPID!!!!!!!!!! (start and wait for 8 minutes before you can do anything....with version 9 it was too long (40 seconds+) but now it's RIDICULOUS !!!!!!!!)

I don't typically see a response from Apple in most of the threads I post in / have started in the past. Expecting some magical solution right out of the gate is illogical and just your frustration talking.
For what it's worth, I don't think it's your brand of NAS devices that's causing the issue. I have a QNAP TS-639 and also experience heavy beach balling whenever I open iTunes or add something to it's Library, at this point I'm suspecting a SAMBA issue, which is sad because those are much harder to fix. They'd have to approve a samba fix/update for all macs, not just yours.
Do the synology NAS devices support AFP? Have you tried connecting with that instead?
EDIT: I actually just took my own advice and switched that share over to AFP. Relaunched iTunes and no beachballing, we'll see how it goes.

  • My Mac is travelling extremely slow. Applications bounce for at least a minute before opening (if they open at all). Any time i click the mouse or start typing i intantly get the colour wheel. Help!!!

My Mac Daddy is running extremely super slow. It has been gradually getting slower over the last week or so but now it is ridiculous. Not just safari. Apps bounce for about a minute before opening (if they open at all) have had a "Application not responding" message when i right click on the icon. Every single time i click the mouse or begin to type i get the colour wheel. I have Mac Keeper and have runs scans, all okay and now mac keeper wont open at all. It even takes a couple of minutes to quit apps and even to shut down. HELP!!!

To build on you main question, i would take a look at this:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation.  TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible;  Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided.  Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.  Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Leopard Cache Cleaner, CockTail, and Xupport, for example.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Backuplist
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    iBackup
    JaBack
    Silver Keeper
    MimMac
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
If you still are not happy with performance then consider reinstalling Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Iphoto takes at least 10 minutes to open

This is really dumb. I have 5000 photos and it takes more than 10 minutes to open Iphoto. I wanted to show some pictures this weekend and I was embarrassed to tell my sister that it would take like 15 minutes to open them. I would only expect this nonsense on a windows machine. Doesn't someone have a answer?

Do you have Windows installed via Bootcamp? Try unmounting that partition. The problem is caused by Spotlight trying to index it.

  • Wicd locks up my computer for five minutes before connecting.

Hello, a few days ago wicd-curses just inexplicably stopped working properly. I can use it at both of my houses with no problem (for both wired and wireless connections), but when I try to connect at school or any other place except for my two houses, nothing will happen, my keyboard will completely stop working for about five minutes. Then things work again and wicd connects me to the internet. This all started happening around the same time as the kernel update a few days ago, although I don't know that it's a problem with the kernel or how it was installed or being used or whatever. I've also noticed some considerable performance decreases since the wicd problem that weren't there before. Somethings will freeze for a few seconds then come back online.
Whenever I try to use wicd to connect I get the following error message. I've tried to restart the daemons (both wicd and dbus) but to no avail. Any help is appreciated. If you need more configuration information I can provide it. Thanks.
DBus failure! This is most likely caused by the wicd daemon stopping while wicd-curses is running. Please re start the daemon, and then restart wicd-curses.

Hello, It's been a little longer than I anticipated but oh well.
I turned off the wicd daemon and that solved all the slow response/performance decrease problems I'd had before. I suspect that when the kernel updated, wicd hadn't been properly equipped to handle certain software on my computer, and this in turn caused dbus to act all wonky, and making some applications slow to respond. I would bet it was my wireless driver (the broadcom wl one) that was the problem, but I doubt i'll ever find out.
For now I'm going to try a different networking client, probably networkmanager although it seems a little tricky to try and get that to work in xmonad. If wicd ever updates and fixes itself, I'll probably go back to it.
    Thanks for all your help.

    Perhaps a login items issue.
Open System Preferences - Accounts then select the Login Items tab.
Delete all items by clicking then click -
If there's nothing listed there, go to /Library/Startup Items. Move any files in the Startup Items folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.

    Hi,
Changing wired network name is not easy. I put up 2 options here:
    (a) Using ePrint to send anything you want to print to the printer (ie send an email to it) or
    (b) Use wireless for desktop to get same SSID, adjust the antenna on wireless card (of the PC) may help or try this:

  • Firefox has become noticeably slower - particularly in closing - i haven't timed it but sometimes it seems to take at least a minute for it to finally close - any suggestions?

i also get a message sometimes that says something is going wrong with a script - i always choose to stop the script - i don't know if its related
the slow closing isn't an every time occurrence but happenes more than 50% of the time - it seems to get worse the longer Firefox has been open

My first reaction is it sounds like you're pocket dialing your passcode?  In iOS 6, it used to be you could go Diagnostics & Usage Data under Settings and see if things were crashing on your phone due to bad memory, but don't know if that works in iOS 7.0.4 on the 4s, but that's the first thing I'd look for.  (I think crash notifications return in iOS 7.1?)
