song taking 20 minutes to download.  Why so long.  Also keeps buffering

Hey brokegee,
I found an article that goes over why download times can vary, including estimates for how long it should take depending on internet speed and song size:

  • Itunes 7 ....importing 3 minute songs taking 15+ minutes

I am trying to import cds with my new itunes 7 to my library ...it is taking 3 minute songs 15 minutes to import. I have tried many different cds . Any suggestions? The old itunes worked great. New itunes not so good.

My best guess is that this particular problem is caused by having too many playlists or too many items (music and videos) in your iTunes library. I have about 160 GB of music and videos in my library, and about 200 playlists. When I try to rip a CD, I get a speed of about 0.1x to 0.5x. Simply appalling! But when I created a new account name in my computer (go to System Preferences and create a new account name), and logged in to my new account name, I ran iTunes and put approx. 1 GB of music and videos in the library and put about 10 playlists in it, my ripping speed jumped to anywhere from 5x to 20x, depending on the CD! So whenever I need to rip a CD, I do it in my new account name and save the songs to my hard drive. Then I go back to my original account name, and transfer the ripped songs to my iTunes library, using the Add Library function in the menu bar. I know it's a pain, but until Apple fixes all the bugs in the new iTunes, I found this workaround to be very effective.

  • Why does all videos keep buffering and not play

Why do videos keep buffering and play when I select them?

I am in Florida, and  have a comcast business account and get download speeds of 22mbps (as tested).
The Apple tv is hooked directly into the modem with ethernet.
We have tried about 6 different routers with apple TV and none of them make the Apple Tv perform without stuttering and buffering.  So we decided to use direct hook up.
I have called Apple repetitively because when trying to watch a trailer/preview, the preview stops and the buffering starts.
This will also happen when watching movies.
Lowering TV resolution to 600x480 does not help either.
Apple fail to tell me where their Itunes servers are located, so it's impossible to do a traceroute to see if there's a problem on the way.
Desperate with this situation I opened a DSL account with Centurylink :same problem!!
It seems that Apple should fix their Apple TV product before placing a product on the market that does not perform as stated.
We took this a step further, and purchased a few Apple Tv's which we are setting up with different Internet providers to see what the results are.
You may think I have nothing better to do, but I'm building a case against Apple and shall get to the bottom of this. There are no excuses for placing faulty products on the market.

  • Why does my video keep buffering?

I am trying to watch a video on PBS.org with my MacBook Pro but am unable to because it keeps buffering. What's odd is, I am able to watch the same video on on the same website with my iPhone 4 with no problem. Why is this? Both the phone and the computer are connected via the same  wifi network and both have strong signals. To my knowledge, everything on the computer (software, adobe flash) are up to date. This is a MacBook Pro I got a week ago. What is the problem, and how do I fix it?
Thank you to all who respond

  • TS2934 my apple tv says my purchased movie will be "ready to play in 42 minutes"...why so long?

Why does my apple TV take so long to play purchased movies??

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • Why does my audio keep buffering

I am trying to listen to iheart radio and also I am streaming audio from the internet and it keeps stopping and buffering every minute or less. There is no Wi Fi in the building I work in, could that be the issue? Its extrememly irritating. Thanks!

  • Why are my songs taking so long to download?????

I just bought songs from iTunes fromt he first time and they are taking forever to download. I have a 6GB ipod mini and I only have 189 songs on it. Its taken over 2 hours for 11 songs of about 2-4 min. to download. Why is this taking so long and is there anyhting i can do to speed up the process?

Not sure what you are downloading, but it isn't a 4MB music file within 2 seconds.
Even if you could get a true 56K speed (which does not exist) for dial-up, each 4MB file would take you 10 minutes to download.
Most 56K modems are limited to around 40-50K at their fastest.
Your times for the 11 songs seems about right.
    -- 11 songs @ an average of 3 minutes in length & 1MB/min = 33 MB total to download
    -- 33MB @ 56K = 1h23m
    -- 33MB @ 34K = 2h17m
You are probably getting between 30K and 42K of real download speed from the modem.

I transfered all my music over to iTunes Match to save more space on my laptop but i bought abot 6 songs 3 days ago and they still aren't finished downloading...

  • HT1577 Why is an 50 minute TV show taking 30 hours to download?

Purchased a series of 5 episodes. 2 took around 20 minutes to download the other three say 30 hours left to download. This download obviously keeps being interrupted as I put my Macbook away... Can I speed this process up? Have paused other downloads so only one episode at a time is downloading. It hasn't helped.

it's not my internet connection is an empty statement provide info as to the speed by measuring it
    http://www.speedtest.net/
when one have the speed lets say 3Mbit/sec or the likes
you can calculate 100% how long it should take
say if the show is 22min lets say it take 400Mbytes and 1 byte is 8 bit so we device the 3Mbit by 8 to get how many megabytes you get in a second
when we have that amount we multiply it by 60 because there are 60 secs to a minute
that way you know how long it should take and if the measurment are unlike what your isp let you know your speed was then it's their fault
if the speed is correct and the measurements show that it should take much shorter time then the issue could be with apples server not being able to keep up with the demand from users in which case you can complain to them (not here this is a user helping user forum we are not apple)

  • Why is it that whenever I download a song from Itunes that a small grey round button appears next to the song (apparently this is the download progress button), but when I press on it to resume, the song disappears. This wasn't happening before.

Why is it that whenever I download a song from itunes that a small grey button appears next to the song (apparently this is the download progress) but whenever I hit it to resume, the song disappears. I am getting annoyed with having to copy the songs manually onto my phone. Thanks for anyones help. Cheers

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • So i just got a new mac, and i am trying to sync my songs that i bought on itunes, and some of the worked, but a huge selection of them have a little exclamation mark beside it and it says it can't be downloaded, why?

so i just got a new mac, and i am trying to sync my songs that i bought on itunes, and some of the worked, but a huge selection of them have a little exclamation mark beside it and it says it can't be downloaded, why?

    Hello Pork Chop 2,
Congratulations on your new Mac!  It sounds like your purchased songs are not playing completely after you downloaded them.  I recommend to following steps for an issue like this:
    Symptoms
Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
    Resolution
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
Download your previously purchased song from this list.
You can find the full article here:
