I second the whole iTunes folder approach.
If for some reason you have split the media folder from the library files then the media folder needs to restored to the same path it used to have while the library files can be copied into the music folder of your new profile.
If in dobut, backup up the entire Documents and Settings folder before wiping the infected drive, but be selective about what you restore as many viruses drop active components capable of reinfecting the compuer in the temp folders and internet caches. It is much easier to backup more than you need than to discover after the fact that you no longer have access to some vital project you'd been storing in a folder on the desktop.

  • Transfered purchases from other ipod wont go on my ipod

I recently transfered purchases from my friend's ipod onto my computer, but when I try to put those songs, games, and videos onto my ipod, they will not load. Why is this?

Because you did not purchase those songs.

  • Syncing and transferring Purchases from iTouch 4G Freezes iTunes

I recently purchased an app at the iTunes App Store (101 GamesUtilities)and when I connected my iTouch to my PC, the sync began. iTunes indicated that "Transferring Purchases from iTouch4 Step 3 of 4 Copying GameUtilities". Usually it takes a short time to complete this process so I clicked in a vacate area of iTunes and discovered that iTunes stopped responding and was frozen. I had to use control-alt-delete to close the iTunes app and disconnected the iTouch from the computer. I repeated the process of connecting my device to the PC and the iTunes repeatedly froze.
I then rebooted my computer, downloaded iTunes 10.1 and intended to install but got 2 options for action which was repair or uninstall. So I chose repair. This did not resolve the problem. I did not get any error message during this process when it finally froze. Can someone help? I also went to GameUtilities website to report the problem in event that the situation directly connected to that software.

If you use the search function on the right and search the iPod Touch forum for:
    itunes AND freeze
you will see previous discussions on your problem. However, I looked at some of them and se no solution.
I would try uninstalling iTunes and then reinstall it vice just installing it over the existing one.

  • Transferring music from my ipod to itunes

My computer crashed and I lost all of my music. I've been trying to figure out how to transfer music from my IPod to ITunes. Any suggestions?

" I also want to add the music that was already in my ipod"
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

  • Itunes stops working when transferring purchases from ipad air

Everytime I connect my Ipad Air to itunes, it crashes after it tries to transfer my purchases.  I have deleted itunes and re-installed it 3 times.  It still does not work.  Please help.

    SweetieAnKay,

  • Transferring music from the iPod to iTunes

I had been using a friend's computer for my iTunes because I did not have one of my own at the time. I put all of my music and bought all of my music onto that computer, and then sync'd it onto my iPod. Now I have my own computer and want to be able to transfer my music from my iPod to my iTunes library so that I can play the music from my computer as well. Is this possible? If so, how?

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your OWN computer and a different iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Itunes freezes when transferring purchases from ipad

Can 't trasfer purchases or syng my ipad with itunes, it just freezes

    Hey there wbh1967,
If I understand correctly when you are trying to transfer your apps and content from your iPad to your computer, iTunes quits unexpectedly every single time but your iPhone works without issue. To start troubleshooting the software on the iPad,  I would start by quitting all the running apps on the device:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that reset the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes and then restore it as a new device and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
You can always download your purchased apps from the iTunes store to your computer directly using the "Download previous purchases on Mac or PC" section from this article:
    Download past purchases
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Transfering purchases from 1 ipod to another

i have a 30 gig that i have everything on. i am trying to transfer all my purchases to my new 80 gig but it doesn't transfer everything. i have bought 5 games and none of them are on my new ipod and only 3 episodes of csi:miami season 5 are downloaded not all 25 which are on my old ipod. i have done the authorize thing , tried sync nothing . what am i doing wrong. please help. i would really like to use my new ipod.
    thanx

A 30 gig iPod can't be a Classic as they are only made in 80 and 160 gig models. It is quite possible, as suggested, that some/all of the games won't work on a Classic (I'm assuming that the "new 80 gig is a Classic) and therefore won't transfer. This doesn't, however explain the issue with the video content. For that, I'd check to see what syncing options are selected for television shows.
    Best of luck.

  • Transferring music from my ipod to my iphone

So, my ipod was purchased by my husband and handed down to me when he got a ipod touch. He left the music on there cause we like the same music. I also purchased more music and synced it to my itunes library. Then he bought the 16GB iphone a few months ago, and recently upgraded to a 3G iphone, and gave me his old iphone and reset it. I've been trying to manually "add to library" all of his and my purchases from the ipod to itunes to then add it to the iphone. It will only let me add about 50% of the songs/albums, possibly because some where purchased under his name and not mine. Does this sound right? Is there some rule about a husband and wife sharing music???

Is the itunes library you are syncing to Authorized to play the music?
"Authorization helps protect the copyrights on the content you buy. You can use your digital rights management (DRM)-protected music purchases1 from the iTunes Store on up to five different computers (these can be any mix of Macintosh or Windows-compatible computers). When you play an item you've purchased, your computer is "authorized" to play content purchased using your Apple Account."
"To authorize a computer to play purchases using your Apple Account
Select a song, video, or audiobook you've purchased (in your library or the Purchased playlist).
    Click the Play button.
If the computer is already authorized, the item plays. If the computer has not yet been authorized, iTunes asks you to enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the song."

  • My ipod nano is recognised by my new MacBook Air, and even transferred purchases from it, but it won't synch?

My old ipod nano is recognised by my new MacBook Air, and even transferred purchases from it, but it won't synch?
When I linked it it used the name I had given the ipod so it seems strange that it won't synch even though it is definitely connected.

    See if this helps:
