Hi, I am running the latest Lion update, on my MB Pro, and keep getting the error code 0x8002006E when trying to burn a DVD. Could this be a dirty lens issue in the drive. I see that many others have had the same problem, but relly cant seem to find anyone that has a solution that works.. Help

It's an error thrown by Mac OS X's DiscRecording framework (as opposed to an error communicated by the drive's firmware). The message is (as you probably saw)
"The burn failed because of a medium write error."
Could this be a dirty lens issue in the drive.
I don't think there's one single cause for this error. It might be a dirty lens. It might be something else. Not all recordable optical discs work well with all burners. Try a different brand.

    Hello Princess Lynne Anne,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
First I recommend taking a look at this article named iTunes: Music purchased from iTunes Store cannot be burned to MP3 format CD found http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1476.
Songs purchased from the iTunes Store may either be in AAC format or AAC Protected format depending on when they were purchased (older songs used AAC Protected format). You can convert AAC songs to MP3 format allowing them to be burned to an MP3 format CD, however AAC Protected songs can not be converted. You can, however, back them up to a data CD or DVD, or you can burn them to an audio CD (which can be played in a CD player).
And if your issue still persists after converting any of these purchases, then I would recommend this part of the article named Disc Burning Quick Assist found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1152#learn2:
    Top troubleshooting tips
In addition to the following tips, check out these articles:
    Solving problems with burning discs
If the disc burning options are dimmed or unavailable
If a burn does not succeed, check the disc or try another disc
Eject the disc from the drive and inspect it to see if the surface is dirty or scratched, or if it already has data written on it (the shiny surface is slightly darker where data has already been burned). If it's dirty, wipe it clean with a soft, damp cloth and try burning again. If the disc already contains data, try another disc. If you're using a rewritable disc that already contains data, be sure to erase it before burning data on it again. Small flaws or surface inconsistencies can cause an unsuccessful burn. Try burning your content to another disc or try a different brand of disc (if possible).
Make sure that your optical drive can record discs
If your drive is built into your Mac, make sure that you have at least a Combo Drive if you want to burn a CD or a SuperDrive if you're trying to burn a DVD (or CD). Consult your Mac manual or your third-party manufacturer's disc drive manual for more information.
    Check the disc type
Make sure that your disc drive is capable of writing to your media at hand. For example, you won't be able to burn a DVD+RW disc with an older Apple SuperDrive. Consult your Apple or third-party product manual for your drive's supported media specifications. You should also use discs that are rated for the burn speed of your drive.
    Slow things down
In the Burn dialog, specify a burn speed that is slower than the maximum speed rating for your disc drive (if you can) and try burning another disc.
    Free up some memory
If you've got other applications open, quit the ones that you're not using (or quit them all except for the one from which you're burning your disc). Allow the disc to burn before doing other things on your computer.
Check your hard drive's available space
When you burn a disc, your Mac temporarily sets aside an amount of hard disk space equal to the amount of data being burned to the disc. If you're burning a large amount of data, you may run out of room on your hard disk if it's almost full, which may prevent a disc from burning. To free up space, throw out unwanted files or back up files to an external drive.
    Restart your computer
Sometimes a simple restart can resolve issues. Once you've restarted your Mac, try burning another disc again.
    Update your software
Use Software Update (from the Apple menu, choose Software Update) to check for, download, and install the latest versions of your Apple software. If you're using a third-party burner, visit the manufacturer's website for the latest software updates for your model.
    Check your connections
If you're using an external disc writer, make sure that all of your cable connections are secure and that the optical drive is powered on.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Error code 0x80020022 when trying to burn regular CD-R but reads still ok

My imac has an optical drive that reads & plays DVD's but only burns CD's. *At least it used to* burn CD's. Now when I drag files to be burned, I get this:
"Burning the disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed.
    (Error code 0x80020022)"
The machine will *READ Cd's* just fine, and will *PLAY DVDs* just fine. It just refuses to burn CD's for me, even just a little jpeg or text file or something. Have tried alternate media, no difference. Is this some bug in Tiger, or are these drives just starting to fail, and how easy is it to replace this myself in a domed-base imac?
Everything's been fine for well over a year. Problem just started appearing last week. No new apps added, nothing clanged. Appreciate any advice. Stats follow:

Me again (answering myself ... things must be bad huh? After posting I continued to work on the problem. I first used Onyx to run cleanup scripts and verify etc. Then I decided to follow the advise from one blog and burt 2.5GB onto a DVD using x1 speed instead of default x4. THIS WORKED ... slow but sure. Good luck and don't worry ... if this was a one off "I'll be back" to let you know!

  • TS4522 What is the problem when I get error code 0 when trying to burn a DVD.  It stops around 60-some %.

I have tried twice to burn a DVD, and both times I get error code 0 at about 60-some % of the transcoding.  I haven't had any trouble burning DVDs before now.

I had a friend with similar problem, not sure of cause. Happened when sharing to Apple device as well.
Apple said to delete all files in Render folder. We did not try that as-
Problem changed slightly for us, in that Share to 'Apple device 720' got to 50% and pretended to have completed its operation, but no file found in Project Share folder.
We found then, if the timeline clips where highlighted it would share, where previously it had repeatedly failed.
    Hope that helps

  • Error code -3 when trying to burn a cd

I am haveing a problem burning CDs from my playlist. I had to burn one disk 2 times and both times, I had an error that my preffered CD burner is unavailable (the internal one) and then it would burn the disc, but it would have the first song recorded blank/muted. When I try to use an external CD burner, I get error code (-3). Does anyone know what this means and how can I fix it?
    Thanks.

I had the same problem with Dell Vostro 1000. My problem was with TSScorp DVD+RW TS-L632H drive. I applied new firmware that lilmaqi posted the link to and it worked. Make sure you follow the instruction on how to apply the firmware fix.

  • Error code 0x80020063 when trying to burn cds. HELP PLEASE

I have a brand new Macbook Pro, less than 90 days old and am having CD burning issues.
Every other cd I try to burn it fails at the end when it goes to verify the CD. This is getting old as I am throwing away half my CD's. I have searched all over and cannot find a fix. HELP, whats the deal here.

If this is the error (error code 0x80020063) then it may be happening on verification. The second time it occurred I popped the disk back in and ran disk utilities to verify the "faulty" CD. It came up clean. When I double clicked on it, all the files I had copied were there. I even opened a few to make sure. It may be a spurious reading—at least it was in my case. Hope this helps.

  • Error code (4880) when trying to burn a playlist to disc

I have never had a problem burning play lists to disc, before installing iTunes 8. I fact up until a few weeks ago burning was a breeze and was really fast. but now every time i try to burn a disc it starts burning the first two tracks and then says disc burning is canceling then ejects the disc and displays the error message: 'unable to burn disc. An unknown error occurred (4880)'
Has anyone any Ideas on how to solve this problem? It is starting to become very irritating.

I too have been having troubles burning DVDs from iTunes, in my case under Vista. I think this could be a re-run of an earlier iTunes problem when Apple took a sudden dislike to grammatical expressions such as '. Anyway, by trying to burn with other software I've found the error happens when iTunes tries to burn a track with either a very long name, or a track that contains an odd symbol. Just now a track name from Verdi's Aida was not only very long but also contained this symbol / and I got repeated Error 4850. Once I edited the track name to remove this (and shortened the track name for good measure) the problem has gone away.

  • Error code 0x8002006E when trying to burn photos to a dvd disk. Please help.

Im trying to burn photos to a DVD so my friend can view my pictures on their windows computer. There is only 371 pictures for a total of 1.72G of space. It starts to burn them, and then in the middle of the process I get an error code 0x8002006E and it stops, wasting my disk (I assume because the computer no longer recognizes it afterwards). So, I am now down by two DVD disks. What I did was, I made a folder on my desk-top and placed my photos in it from iPhoto '11. I did this because it said that's how to do it if you want your friend to be able to view them on a windows computer. Then, I closed iPhoto and right click on my folder (on my desk-top with the pics in it) and click burn.

What speed are you burning at and what brand/type of DVD disk are you using?  Are you able to burn a CD?
It could be a dirty laser in the optical drive.  Get a disk cleaning disk, one with dry brushes - no liquids and use it to clean your optical drive. Burn at the slowest speed available, 2X - 4X.  Use quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums

  • I get error code 0x8002006D when trying to burn images to dvd

I purchased some Verbatim DvD-r's from the Apple store; I made an iPhoto burn that worked fine. However, I need a disk that I can open with anything, for archival purposes. I exported to an external HD, as well as to the disk itself from iPhoto, but I keep getting the error code. ANy ideas? Thanks!

2 things there is Media available but you must be careful to read the packaging carefully.
16X Maxell DVD-R reads that it will burn at 1X,2X,4X,8X, and 16X.
Next there is a huge difference in Quality of the Media you purchase.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
As you see the Maxell is one of the highest in Quality.
My advise is to always go for quality over price (cheaper) is one of the largest causes of burning problems.
Another important thing to remember is DVD-R Media is the most widely used and recognised by the majority of computers (especially the older ones).
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
Please understand there is not only a big difference in the Optical Drives installed in the different Apple Computers, but the Media, Speed and Format they are capable of using. This is the reason For the Media I suggest.
It covers the correct format but covers the speed problem as well, for older and newer burners as well.

I keep getting unknown error occured(4450) when trying to burn a CD, running Windows Vista...any help would be apprciated.

I had this issue to when trying to burn discs recently. I went into the CD creation settings in iTunes and I "unchecked" the option to "Include CD Text" and after I did that, the disc I had been trying to burn several times with error, actually burned without fail. Give that a try and see what happens.
