  • The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-50)

    Hey Guys,
Got the error message "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-50) in iTunes.
I'm just trying to burn a few audio CDs.
Running most current verison of Mavericks, all software up to date.
I've tried changing the burning speeds from Maximum Possible, to 12x, 8x, 4x. Still get the error.
I've tried 3 brands of CD-Rs get the error on all 3.
    Any suggestions?
    Thx
    CD

Error -50 is a very unhelpful generic communications error with a number of possible causes.  Something between the drive to which you are downloading and the drive from which it is all coming is not working correctly, which probably leaves several hundred options.
Have you tried simply restarting the computer?

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4310).

I have been able to burn CDs from music I bought off iTunes. I haven't had any problems until now.
I just purchased Mike Doughty's Haughty Melodic, the whole album. Everytime it gets almost done burning, it gives this error:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4310)."
I have wasted 3 blank CDs trying to burn this. I have a lot of experience with computers, I know there is nothing wrong with my hardware.
Is this is a problem with one of the files? Is there some kind of sub-routine that iTunes runs when trying to burn a CD? I have no idea why this is happening.
    Anyone have some advice?
    Thanks

  • Attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4280).

I put a blank CD in. I open iTunes. I click on a play list and attempt to burn. It checks the play list like everything is fine and seems like it begins to burn the first track. Then after a few seconds it says *_canceling disc_*. It ejects the CD and an error message comes up: "_*The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4280).*_" I thought that the new update (7.6.2) might include a fix for this. No such luck of course! Have had this problem for awhile and have researched it on the internet. I am not the only one with this problem and people have been posting about this error since 2005! CDs burn fine and Media player. What's the deal? I thought Mac was supposed to be superior to Windows? I have a Slimtype DVDRW SSM-8515S drive. I have tried HP's solutions, lower burn speed, clicking this and that, ect. Please help. This problem makes me wish I didn't have an iPod. The only reason I started using iTunes was because of the iPod. +Not happy with this or Mac at all+. I don't care how cool their commercials are!
P.S. Have tried all of the suggestions from the following site:

Since you are using a 2012 iMac which has no optical drive, your problem is w/an external disc burner?   Is the burner a tray or slot loader?

Anyone having this error message after attempting to burn a disc?
I have 6 discs sitting here ruined after this happened consistently.
Called Apple tech support. Said they never heard of this.
What can I do to resolve? Tried doing the iTunes update and that does not appear to have helped. I am beyond frustrated. To not be able to burn all my purchased music to cd's is not making me a happy camper.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix?
    Thanks for all suggestions..

Hey guys, having same type of problem and figured I would throw in my 2 cents. I was getting "error 4000"; i Googled that and followed the procedures for going to my control panel, add/remove and clicking repair. I tried a burn again, also paying attention to previous notes and lowered my write speed to 8X. Same error, different number, this time 4261. I found this thread so I decided to paste my info too, but i do notice the last line of code reads "speed 10X". Hope this helps? I have burned plenty of CDs before, I am burning a mix of MP3 and MP4, amazon and apple purchased, and using older memorex CD-R. They say "recordable, 52X, 700mb, 80 min" at the top. Hope it helps and thanks for the time and effort on here!

My company just purchased a MacBook Pro to go along with our iMac computer. I spoke with an AppleCare guy who talked me through using Migration Assistant to copy my files from the iMac to the MacBook Pro. After doing this, I am able to use the MacBook Pro with no problems (except that it is for another employee) but my iMac will no longer burn or import music into iTunes. Every time I try to burn, I get the message that I wrote in the subject line. I can still burn cd's using Toaster, but not with iTunes (where all my playlists are). Anyone have any suggestions?

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (2131).

I'm wondering if there is a fix for this error.
This is the third error I've received after trying to burn an mp3 cd. The first error I received was 261, which was the special character (ex. &) in the playlist name. So I edited the playlist name.
Then I received error 4280; which is the one about the Sony cd drive. I tried the fix I found on here for that error and now I'm having the 2131 error.
I can't find any info here or elsewhere on the net for this one. I already filled out the feedback form and included my optional contact info but I have yet to hear anything back.
    Any help is appreciated.

Has anyone else had the 2131 error? I've noticed there are alot of issues here about failed burning/unknown errors.

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed.  An unknown error occurred (4000)

I know numerous others have had this same problem but I haven't found a solution yet in reading about others with the same error message.  I have updated to the latest version of iTunes, I have updated the firmware and I have run numerous diagnostics and they have all passed.  I am very frustrated and I am ready to dump iTunes and go to another product.
    Here is what happens:
I choose the playlist I want to burn.
From the file menu I choose 'burn playlist to disc'.
I insert a blank cd into the drive and the information pops up identifying my optical drive, speed, etc.
I choose data cd/dvd ( I have also tried this choosing audio cd and I get the same results...error 4000).
I hit burn and the process begins.  The status bar at the top of iTunes says 'writing to disc' for each song.  Finally it finishes writing and changes to burning disc...finishing.  This goes on for some time and then all of a sudden, the status changes to 'cancelling burning. This may take a few minutes'.  Ater a minute or so, the disc ejects.  I have wasted yet another disc and I am getting angrier and angrier!  I have added the most recent diagnostic to this post below.
