  • My phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

I attempted to update to iOS 8 and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

    Hi, kformagg
I would say yes. I once had the same problem (iPhone 5, IOS 7) and first restored to factory settings and after that from iCloud backup.
    It worked very well.

I am so sorry I am frustrating you. This is the first time I have used this community and am leanring as I go. I am not able to see the entire post that you leave, unless I look at it on my phone (email)--I am so sorry. You have no idea how much i appreciate your help. Yes, I see that I can get the later version of OS software, but its not availabe for immediate download. My only options appear to be having it shipped, or going to the store to purchase. while updating my ipad to new software through itunes it got stuck and does not work anymore - it just displays the screen with symbols of itunes and the cable to connect to it - help - what should i do?

Disconnect the iPad, do a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!, reconnect and follow the prompts.

  • Booting to safe mode? been stuck on boot screen for 2  hours? Help please

Hello, I had a problem with my Mac which I have posted previously right here, https://discussions.apple.com/message/22649979#22649979
The first reply I recieved told me to boot to safe mode, so i followed the instructions and my computer has been stuck on the white screen with the rotating loading boot thing for 2+ hours.
I have never booted to safe mode
I heard that booting to safe mode can sometimes take a while but surely not 2+ hours??
to be clear this is the screen I am talking about
I have no back ups of my computer [I know thats not smart], it is far out of warranty, I am a student that has many important documents on here and all my music and family photos. Please help. I go back to school very soon and need this computer in working order! thank you to any one that helps

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. Do not try to repair the volume if you have no backups. The result could be total, irrevocable data loss.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • TS3274 My ipad 2 charges very, very slow. It was on the charger for 7 hours and went from 41% charged to 77% charged.

My ipad 2 is charging very, very slow. Is was on the charger for 7 hours and went from 41% to 77%. I have tried several different charger, even purchased a new charger. What could the problem be?

Could be your battery needs replacing.
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • IPad Air iOS 8.1 stuck at "update requested" for over 24 hours

I requested the update for the iPad Air, mini2 and iPhone 5s. The later two updates quite smoothly but no luck for the iPad Air.
It has been in the "update requested" for over 24 hours, and even worse, any App Store app cannot updated nor download any new app.
I have tried the hard reset, reset network settings, and reboot for at least 5 times. Anybody meeting the same problem?

Oh how embarrassing and frustrating! I contributed to that other thread, which was specifically about iPad Air! My iPhone 6 was still updating apps just fine, and I had not bothered to delete the WSJ app from it, since I assumed it was not bothering it. Well, we know what happens when you "***-ume" (but no reflection on you, floydcui , just ME).
I just deleted the WSJ app from my newsstand, restarted my iPhone and restarted my WiFi. INSTANTLY IOS 8.1 STARTED DOWNLOADING.
You're right, how could one app cause so much frustration? I posted a comment to apple support how poisonous the WSJ app is, and I left a warning review among the hundreds already on the WSJ app page.

  • My iPad is disabled and my iTunes is too old to restore it

    Hi,
My kids disabled my iPad trying to crack the passcode.
I followed the instructions to try and restore it but I get a message from iTunes stating that I need to update iTunes in order to do so. Then I come to find out that I can't update iTunes because the OS on my MacBook is too old, and I can't update my OS because my MacBook is too old. So now I have an unusable iPad. Is there anything I can do? I can't use the remote wipe because the iPad won't connect to the internet unless I tell it to and right now I can't get into it to connect it to the WIFI so it's showing as offline when I run "Find my iPhone" to try and remote wipe it.
    Any suggestions?? Thanks so much.

Well, it sounds like you've correctly identified the problems and causes.
There are some sales out there on new computers.  It's probably time to consider a new purchase.

  • My ipod touch isnt sensed by my computer or itunes, and its stuck in restore mode

my ipod touch wont connect to my computer or itunes,
and when i plug it in to any computer it still isnt sensed, ive
gone through all the troubleshooting from apple and itunes,
and it just wont work. its not noticed in task manager
either.i dont know what to do, ive been working on getting
it fixed for 2 months now, and im tired of just searching the
web for help, so please help me if you can.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Aperture may need "rebuilding" but is stuck in "repair" mode

I'm trying to open an aperture library that is stored on an external hard drive. Initially, I got a message saying something to the effect that repeated forced closures could indicate the library needs repairing, and then I was given three options for addressing the issue. I forget what the first option was, but the second (and default) option was to repair the library, with the third option being to rebuild the library (the suggestion being to choose this if the first two options didn't work). So I selected the default option to repair the library. After an minute or so, another message popped up saying that the library would need "rebuilding". However, there is now a progress bar on the screen which says "repair library: examining library", except that no progress has yet been indicated. However, it doesn't seem possible to quit Aperture, as the "Quit" option is greyed out.
I don't know if I just need to be patient and wait, or to force close Aperture, and then re-open and select "rebuild" when the options appear again.
    Any advice?
    - David

How large is your library? For a very large library the rebuild can take a full day, and the progress bar is not very reliable. Let it run!
How much free disk space do you have? Rebuilding needs plenty of additional disk space. It might help to free your drive a bit, if you see that the available disk space is getting low.
