TS1447 older apple tv and sync and firewall problems.

I have an older apple tv, second gen I think, and it will not let me snyc my itunes all of sudden. It keeps saying that I need to make sure my firewall is turned off, but I have done this already and the firewall is off. I can't seem to figure this out, is there anyone out there who might have an answer?

It took a while but I found a solution. i had to go to my itunes store and find my movie purchases. Next to each was a "downloaded" icon except for the one I just bought on my apple TV. Next to it was an iCloud icon. I clicked on that and my movie started downloading to my mac.

If you remeber the password to that Apple ID then follow these steps
1 - Make sure you have an email address that is NOT an Apple ID
2 - Go to AppleID.Apple.com
3 - Where it reads Manage Apple ID - Sign in
Once you are signed in want to make sure the email address you are wanting to use is NOT set up as a "Recovery/Rescue" email for this account.
[To check this - Main page where you see Primary ID - below do you see the email address you want to use listed towards the bottom? Yes - Delete / No - Good ./. If made any adjustments "Save" Next on the left select "Password & Security" - Answer your security questions you set up "if you have any" then scroll towards the bottom and check to see if you see the email address you want to use. Yes - Delete / No - Good] <-> Also you can change your password on this page as well. Any adjustments made "Save"
Once this is done go back to the main page where you should read "Primary ID" and change the email address that is showing to the new email address youo want. "Save" Done

You may wish to try the following:
Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it.

Older Apple TV and iTunes streaming problem

I've set up a Mac to act as an iTunes streaming host, mostly for standard-definition video. Other computers and iOS devices on my home network can play back the content with no issues. However, two older (hard disk based) Apple TVs we have are unable to play video from the iTunes streaming server.
One of the Apple TVs is connected via ethernet, the other via wifi. They can play audio just fine via iTunes streaming. With video, however, they either lock up for extended periods of time or play the audio while showing a frozen video frame.
Since audio plays back fine but video doesn't, I'm wondering if the video data rate is too high for these older Apple TV boxes. The video is standard definition in h.264 format encoded by HandBrake. The settings used for the video are:
Video codec: H.264 (x264)
Framerate: same as source
Quality: Constant quality (RF: 20)
Can anyone think of something I might be able to do (other than re-encode all the video at lower bitrates) that might help?

What bitrate are they, the Apple TV 1 is stated to play video up to 5 Mbps, but I've tested video at 11 Mbps without any problems. You might also try re-encoding a small part of the original source file using other conversion software at the same bitrate to see if it's a problem with handbrake.

You can delete an existing account from your device and create a new one and start using it. But I'm not sure what you mean by transfer.

WSRP Producer Registration and Firewall Problem

Hi,
I am trying to register a WSRP producer in JDev 11g TP3, and am running into a problem with our firewall, which requires authentication. The WSRP producer is on a system inside our firewall, however it references a WSDL outside our firewall (http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/wsrp/specifications/version1/wsrp_v1_bindings.wsdl).
I have my proxy configured via preferences->Web Browser and Proxy to use the proxy server, but exclude our domain.
The problem I have is that I can either Check the choice to "Use Proxy for contacting the Portlet Product", in which case I get an http 407 error trying to access the internal server, or uncheck the choice, in which case I get a timeout accessing the WSDL outside our firewall.
Does anybody know how to configure the proxy settings to allow me to access a producer inside our firewall, which references a WSDL outside our firewall?

Firstly, thanks for your answer. Which log files are you referring to? I didn't find anything wrong in the richtextportlet application log. The error appears when trying to refresh a previously registered producer.
I'm using both PDK-Java and WSRP portlets and the problem only happens with WSRP portlets. The app is using ADF security with a lightweight xml provider, I'm running the app in the embedded OC4J and the portlets are being consumed from the built-in portlet ready instance (OC4J_Webcenter) in an Oracle Webcenter 10.1.3.2.0 AS installation.

Apple ID and email problems

I forgot my Apple ID and so changed it along with a new email address. Now I can log into Apple but cannot access I Tunes or App Store because it does not recognise the new email or the new Apple ID.
Can anyone help please?

I suggest you try one of these methods to recover your original Apple ID and password (which can be reset easily)
All of your past purchases are tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them. The ID can be changed in the account holders iTunes account.

Apple id and iCloud problem

I decided to set up a separate apple id for my wife for her phone so we could have separate iCloud accounts. So, when I went to set up an apple id with her email, it said her email was already associated with an apple id, which doesn't make sense.
So, to be sure, I entered her email and asked to send an email to reset the password. Well, it then said there was no apple id for that email. Still, when I try to create an apple id with that email, it still says it is associated with an apple id and won't let me set up the new one.
How can I remedy this? Is there an easy way to email apple support with this? Their support site isn't helpful with this at all.

Okay, i started out with the email address [email protected] and then i changed it, the reason i had to change it was because that email is now blocked and i could not verify it, now when apple id pops up when i want to download an app my passwords wont work for that email. Help!

I haven't suggested you are dumb, indeed I only think people are dumb if they don't ask about things they don't understand.
I was asking why you changed your Apple ID to see if you really needed to, it sounds as though you may not have needed to.
You can change your personal email you use with your Apple ID, but you can't change your iCloud address. If you do this you can continue to use your old Apple ID and without causing problems with purchased content.

Apple TV and Firewall in 10.5.2

I have problems with the firewall in 10.5.2 and Apple TV. I can connect to iTunes perfectly , but if i try to sync iTunes comes back asking to open FireWall Port 3629 . In my Firewall settings it shows Firewall off. And I nowhere i can open ports. Also the document of apple sseems to be old, as there is no iTunes sharing offered in 10.5.2
Where is the problem with this machine??

I had exactly the same issue last week, and it was quite annoying lol
The only way I solved the problem was to do a Factory Restore on the Apple TV, & then download the 2.0 Update again. After that, I had to re-sync all of my content
Like you say, it's very difficult to find the Port and solve the issue within Leopard - I went old skool, and started again! Since then, the whole set-up has worked brilliantly...

Apple TV and iTunes problem - Different Twist

I, too, can no longer get Apple TVs to show up in my iTunes device list.
It DID work until last week when I downloaded two movies. They ATVs (three of them) got stuck in syncing, and were still "syncing" four days later. I quit the app, restarted it, and now all the ATVs are gone.
The twist is, the ATVs DO show up on my MBP and another iMac on the same local network. Just not on my 27 inch iMac.
I deleted (correctly and completely) iTunes and reinstalled - no success.
I created a new (clean) user account - no success.
I wiped the hard drive clean and reinstalled the software - no success.
This HAS to be a hardware problem with the iMac.
Any other ideas or observations or suggestions?

Ah ok, you haven't actually set them up on those machines.
I would turn those off just in case they're interfering with the one you want to sync being allowed a slice of the cake.
Question: If you'd factory restored AppleTV you would have to set these up again on AppleTV.
Answer: I don't understand, but, making an assumption, when I reset the ATV, I downloaded the update, went to connect to the network, and that connection request was received by all Macs on the network (Apple TV click to set up) except the iMac.
I've never had my other macs turned on when trying to add an AppleTV - it's possible they could be causing problems by catching the request for th e5 digit code before the reset computer.

Answer: Just for a belt and suspenders - I was troubleshooting.
Question: Do you have 2 separate local networks? If they do not see each other this could be the problem - try both individually if you haven't.
Answer: No, I have only one. And, the iMac can see the other computers, mount them, etc., and vice versa. The ONLY apparent network problem is the ATV/iTunes/iMac problem described here.

Apple Mail and Gmail problems

I put all 3 of my gmail accounts into apple mail but now apple mail will not stop retrieving my old messages from gmail one at a time and I keep hearing that weird chime. How do I fix this?

Is it still downloading the messages? Not quite clear on what the problem is - or why it's a problem.

HT1365 Apple TV and Netflix problem

My apple TV works well with all the apps on it except with Netflix. Lately it will quit and state " Your Apple TV isn't connected to the Internet " to check your network setting go to etc etc . I do that and go to for instance Utube and there is NO problem and switch back to Netflix, it runs for a while and then get the same message !! I have tried ALL of netflix and apple's suggestions but to no avail !! HELP !!

I don't think this has anything to do with wireless. You should post in the AppleTV area.

If you are posting here because you think it is a wireless router issue..
I strongly suggest you run an ethernet cable to your AppleTV and use that for a test.
Wireless for streaming is always a bad idea when you live in an area where wireless is grossly overused.

Oracle JDBC Thin Driver and Firewall Problem

Hi!
We have Oracle 8.1.5 and Websphere App Server. There is a
firewall between the two. A servlet creates a connection pool
(not that of Wesphere's). The frontend is JSP/HTML (no applets).
The servlet uses the Oracle JDBC Thin Driver for DB Connections.
The problem is - Once the connection is freed, the connection
pool is not being able to retrieve it and hence it created
another one, thus reaching the max. # of connections and the
system hangs. Restarting the DB service flushes the connection
and the application starts running again...
There was a similar problem discussed in this forums long ago. I
have not yet tried mentioning the firwall port and IP in the
connection string. But apart from that, is there any other
setting I need to do (on firewall or for the connectionstring)
to deal with this problem?
Someone had suggested to punch a hole in the firewall for the DB
port - but we can not really do that in the current scenario...
I would appreciate if anyone could share their experience
regarding how they resolved this issue.

IPhoto 9.6, Apple TV and Lightroom problem

I am unable to see some of my pictures on my Apple TV (3rd generation). I am using iPhoto 9.6. The photos that are not viewable were all edited in Lightroom 5.
I can see the images in iPhoto. Albums with these images show an accurate count.
In iTunes / Home Sharing / Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV, the same albums with the Lightroom edited images have an image count of zero.

Thank you for response. I use Lightroom to edit my photos. They are saved as JPEGs and then imported into iPhoto.
I use my iPhoto library as my ATV screensaver.
As I said in my post, the lightroom edited photos are viewable in iPhoto. Just not on the ATV.
You point on posting in an ATV forum is on target. I'm assuming that I would reach more photo savvy responders in this forum, but may repost in an ATV forum..
