TS1493 ipod nano displays cant sync. required disc cannot be found.  what do I do??

I have just bought a 6th gen nano.  when trying to sync it I keep getting the message Cant be synced. required disc cannot be found.  Any help on getting around this???

What have you tried in terms of troubleshooting so far?  Has the iPod ever been able to successfully sync with this PC and iTunes before or is this the first time you are connecting it?
I would first make sure you are plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port directly on your PC and NOT through a HUB.  If possible, use a different USB sync cable to rule out a damaged/faulty cable as well.
Is the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?

  • My 3rd generation iPod nano won't sync because "It cannot be found" even though it will automatically sync when I plug it in.

    Hey,
My dad and I both own a third generation iPod nano. ever since I updated our iTunes software, neither his nor my iPod will sync because "the correct disk cannot be found" or "ipod cannot be found" even though it will sync automatically when I plug it in. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?
    Thanks

    Try these steps listed below.
    1. Run “c:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc” (i.e. *Device Manager*), and leave it open for now for later use
    2. Start up iTunes
    3. Next, connect your iPod.
    4. Go to your iPod Settings and select the “Enable disk use” option from under theSummary tab.
    5. A dialog box will pop up reminding you that you’ll need to manually eject. Go ahead and hit OK
    6. Hit Apply to save changes to the iPod
    7. Quickly switch to the Device Manager window and right-click on any item within the window and select “Scan for hardware changes”
    8. Finally, switch back to iTunes, and try re-syncing your iPod to see if it helped.
It might not also hurt to trash your iPod's Photo cache if it has one (i.e. you sync photos to the iPod).  See this article for information on where to find this folder on your Windows XP machine.

  • IPod cannot be synced the required disc cannot be found

Hello i dont know if someone already posted about this, i couldnt find something like it.
My iPod is a Shuffle first generation
When i connect my ipod to my computer it detects its as normal (Driver F or G), then itunes opens and then says "ipod has been succesfully synced" as it always does, but now when i try to put a song in it it stays for like 5 minutes with "Syncing iPod do not disconnect" after those 5 minutes a message appears:
"The iPod "IPOD" cannot be synced. The required disc cannot be found."
I tried restoring it but i couldnt it said something about error in iPod so it erased all files in the iPod including the ones in iPod control hidden folder. The weird thing is that i connected it to 5 iMacs from my school and there iTunes had no problem syncing music to my iPod and i could listen to it and everything but when i returned home the old problem came back, i dont want to go to my school to sync my iPod everytime i want to erase or put another song in it.
Please i need to solve this ive had my iPod for 1 1/2 years and it worked perfect until recently and i live in mexico i cant order a replacement or anything. i think this happened after an itunes upgrade i think it was 7.4, my ipod has the latest version for ipod shuffle first generation 7.5

I have the same problems with 2 different ipod shuffles (1 is a 1st Generation, the other a 2nd generation). I have tried them on several different PCs with the same error. I followed the apple document listed in this disussion an none of the solutions work for me. I ended up using the Apple reset tool to get them working, only to have the problem come back when I trying syncing with pcs that have I-Tunes 7.3.x or 7.4.x. After resetting it again, I found a PC that hadn't been updated for a while and had I-Tunes 7.1.x. That worked as I expected and I was able to sync multiple times without any issues. I would be willing to go back to that version except the I-tunes backup I have is 6 months old and missing alot of music purchased since then and the current libraries don't work on the older version. Any suggestion on what is going on with the 7.3 and 7.4 versions of I-Tunes and the shuffles and how I can resolve the problem?

  • My iTunes doesn't sync ALL of my music to my iPod, saying "the required disc cannot be found"

When I sync my iPod, only about half of my music syncs and a message comes up saying "the required disc cannot be found"
    Please help me!!!
    Thankyou so so much

Deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder usually resolves the problem.  For its location see:

  • IPod Touch "cannot be synced. The required disc cannot be found."

Yesterday, I bought 3 CD's (yep, the physical kind) and today I ripped them into iTunes on my 24" iMac (with my usual custom settings, 256kbps, stereo, 44,100 KHz, with error correction on). I had synced my iPod Touch earlier this morning. Then I went to sync my iPod Touch (2nd gen., 32GB) to get the new albums onto it (it had about 3GB of space, so shouldn't have been a problem, I thought).
However, my iPT and/or iTunes (10.3.1) started getting flaky on me. I got most of the way through syncing, but when iTunes starts transferring my Music back onto the iPT, after several tracks had been transferred to the iPT, I get a message "The iPod "[iPod's Name Here]" cannot by synced. The required disc cannot be found. When I click on the OK, iTunes shows "Finishing Sync" and then says OK to Disconnect. (?) So I try it again (several times) - some times I notice that the iPod's screen shows "Sync in Progress" even after the error message appears and I get the OK to Disconnect message after that - ? - and another time, the iPod screen (partway through syncing the music, but after syncing the apps) just goes to the charging icon with no message about syncing. I tried restarting the iPT with the 'silver' Apple logo and all - still getting errors. After some of the problems, I disconnected the USB cable from my iMac and tried unlocking the iPT's screen with my password, and then things looked sort okay - except none of the new songs show up in the Music part of my iPT.
Thinking the iPT's timing out on me, or maybe has a bad cable, I switch to a newer cable I got, but I'm still having same kinds of problems and cannot get the new albums onto the iPT. By the way, the songs play fine within iTunes, so no indication that they are garbled or such.
It's beginning to feel like my iPod Touch and/or iTunes are ptiching a fit because I didn't buy these albums from the iTMS. Verrrrrry frustrating!

Are you also syncing photos? If yes, try to delete the photo cache folder, explained in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
If this does not help, see this article for more suggestions: "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod

  • The iPod cannot be updated. The required disc cannot be found

I am gettin an annoying message that "the required disc cannot be found" and am not sure how to resolve. The iPod shuffle seems to updat with songs successfully. I also tries restoring for factory settings to perhaps start from scratch. I also tunred off all automatic updates in the settings to no avail.
    Any ideas?

Try this; disable your virus protection. If this works for you, you can also thank Apple Tech Support.
I'm unsure if this is an iPod problem or an iTunes
problem, so forgive me if this is in the wrong forum.
I've been getting this error message repeatedly since
I started using my 2nd-gen iPod Shuffle: "The iPod
cannot be updated. The required disc cannot be
    found."
This worries me because it's the same error message I
started receiving just before my first-gen Shuffle
started doing the infamous "green light/amber light"
thing. This is not exclusive to my computer (Mac mini
1.5 GHz Intel Core Solo with OS 10.4.8); a family
member uses an iMac (700 MHx PowerPC G3 with OS
10.3.9), and iTunes displays the same message with
her 2nd-gen Shuffle. Both computers have the latest
version of iTunes, and both iPods are up to date on
    their software.
Other than this, there appears to be no immediate
effect of the fuctionality of iTunes or the iPods.

  • Error message Ipod shuffle cannot be synced. required disk cannot be found.

I just bought the ipod shuffle. I loaded about 110 songs. Then the next day I wanted to load just 9 more and it wouldn't let me giving me the "cannot be synced. required disk cannot be found. Please answer. This is frustrating.

I remember getting that msg periodically when I got my shuffle, but now it's extremely rare [I've not seen one in more than two months].
I donno what causes it, but what always worked for me was to eject the shuttle, un-dock it, quit iTunes, launch it again, cycle iPod power (turn it off if it's on, and on if it's off) once or twice, put it back on the dock, and voila!

  • Trying to sync...required disc cannot be found

I have been trying to sync my iphone for two days now....no luck...either it says required disc cannot be found or it starts syncing and then says ...iphone device timed out.HELP!!!

Were you able to sync your iPhone with this computer previously and this problem started two days ago?
Does your computer have USB 2.0 ports and if so, are you connecting your iPhone to a USB port on your computer and not connected to a USB hub, or to an available USB port on your keyboard or monitor?

  • Required disc cannot be found

When I try to import some cd's into iTunes, it will appear to import a track, but then an error message pops up stating, "Error occured while converting the file 'xxx.' I have to restart my computer and then I can open the drive manually. If I run Diagnostics on the cd in iTunes, I receive this message...

Someone, anyone, please help me!!!! I am completely frustrated with this and extremely annoyed. Any advice would be great.

It seems to be random and happens after about 3 or 4 songs. If I disconnect and reconnect I am able to get those songs and it will then happen again 3 or 4 songs later.
It happened with my wife's iPod but not mine, and we noticed that it was happening if she was dragging and dropping individual songs while other songs were still being loaded.
I was dragging and dropping entire CD's into mine and it went fine, she was also able to drag and drop groups of songs with no problem, it seems to happen when she's adding individual songs while it's still loading.

  • 2 error msgs while synching to I-pod touch.  "An error occurred while writing to the device.  Also, I-pod cann be synced, required disk cannot be found.

Two error messages appear while trying to synch to I-pod touch.  "I-pod cannot be synced.  An error occurred while writing to the device."  Second msg:  I-pod cannot be synced, required disk cannot be found."

The latter error can usually be resolved by deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder.  See the following for its location.
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
For the former error, I would try again.  Then I would reset the iPod and try again.
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next I would restore the iPod.

  • XP : "required disc cannot be found"??? anyone?

i upgraded to the new itunes software yesterday & have been trying to import some cds but the same thing keeps happening- it starts to import, gets about 3-4 songs in & stops, saying the required disc cannot be found. then i take the disc out, put it back in, start importing again, same thing.
i imported a disc yesterday before upgrading the software w/ no problem. it is getting progressively worse, importing fewer & fewer songs each time.
is this itunes or my computer?
    thanks!!!

  • Tried to load photos to ipod but its ways the required file cannot be found

I tried to load my photos on to my ipod but its ways "the required file cannot be found" so what do i have to do to get the file? i have the ipod video. so can any one hepl me plz!

I had the same error message after I had restored my Pictures/iPhoto folder from a backup. After restoring my iMac's Pictures folder, I kept getting that message. Everything else would sync just fine, even the movies.
I figured that it was the iPod photo cache folder. It's located in the Users>Pictures>iPhoto Library>iPod Photo Cache. I deleted that folder, it sync'd up all the pics.
This simple deletion was my answer. I've searched through these boards so many weeks for the answer. I've done those Five R's to no avail so many times. I even thought my ipod being Windows Fat32 based was an issue. I hope this works for you as well. Caveat: always make backups before you delete anything.

  • Itunes not showing elements 11 drop down list of albums and won't sync, says ïtunes cannot sync, required folder cannot be found. ï have tried re installing both but no success. pls help!!!

Hi, Itunes won't sync my photos to ipad from elements 11. itunes doesn't show drop down list of albums and says Ipad "......cannot be synced, required folder cannot be found" i have tried re installing both programs but no luck. pls help!!!

I managed to finally fix the problem in a relatively painless way. It turned out that the problem wasn't on my phone, the problem was with iTunes. I completely uninstalled iTunes from my PC and then reinstalled it and everything was fine.
In order to completely uninstall iTunes, I did two things:
Used RevoUninstaller to uninstall iTunes. This cleans out a bunch of extra things that the normal iTunes uninstaller misses.
Searched for any iTunes folders/files on my computer (using the freeware utility called Everything) and deleted them manually.
I hope that works for you.

  • Cannot be synced the required disc cannot be found

ok so i read through 10 pages of threads to see if someone else has the same problem before posting, i had itunes installed before i had an ipod as i used it for work, i have about seven hundred songs in my library, although most of them are in another folder for work, when i got a 1G nano for xmas i tried to sync it, so because there were so many songs it took a selection and made a playlist that i cant remember what it was called, all the songsi wanted in my ipod were not there, my sister deleted the playlist saying all i needed to do was tick the boxes i wanted in the ipod, so i unticed the 700 songs and only kept the ones i wanted, but when i tried to sync it, it cleared the ipod and gave me the message, the ipod my ipod cannot be synced the required disk cannot be found, i put in the set up disc but that never did anything, i pressed on sync and it came up "playlist no longer exists, so is it because my sister deleted the playlist that they set up, is it a smart one? if so how do i get it back and then how do i get the songs i want on my ipod, i have spent all day trying to uninstal and instal etc, sorry it's long but i dont know what to do! please help

    Hi jonathanisonline,
This error message seems to have its root in digtal signing issues for PCs. Try the Solution recommended in this article, and see if you have any sort of success with that error you are having:

Also, the general advice from here might be worth a try, as well:
