  • How to restore ipad in recovery mode

    I am trying to restore an iPad Gen 3 on IOS 6 using recovery mode but iTunes cannot find the backup file on my PC while the iPad is in recovery mode.
    However, on my PC, iTunes shows that a backup exists when I say that I need to do a restore. The restore can't work due to the passcode being in place and not remembered. The iPad needs to be restored becausee the person forgot their passcode.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
    Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.  Very rarely this error is caused by a hardware issue and requires service.
  • Restoring IPhone in Recovery mode
    I'm trying to restore my iphone because it said I can not receive or make any calls and I need to restore it because it's in recovery mode (no idea on what that means). So iI began the process of restoring it. It "extracts software" but then the iphone just disconnects. The USB did not unplug or come out, the computer didn't shut down, etc. It just goes black as though the phone turns off and the process stops. When the warning sign about it disconnecting goes away, it reconnects again all of a sudden and says I need to restart. Could you explain to me why it's telling me I can't receive or make calls and in "recovery mode" and how I can fix my connection problem? THANK YOU!!!!
    I've tried restarting my computer and my phone doesn't turn on completely. Just goes to the apple logo then shuts off.
    HOW DO I RESTORE MY PHONE IN RECOVERY MODE.... THERE IS SOMETHING YOU DO BY HOLDING HOME AND OFF BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME?
    are you referring to dfu mode?  I'd only use that if a standard recovery didn't work for some reason.  It's more art than science so you may have to try it a few times...but here is the method I've found to work best:
    DFU mode[1] is a state that you can put your iPhone into where it can interface with iTunes but does not load the iPhone operating system or boot loader (this is what really differs DFU mode from recovery mode). DFU stands for Device Firmware Update.
    While connected to PC, running iTunes, hold down Home and Power( button on upper right edge) button for exactly 8 seconds.
    Release the power button.  Continue to hold home button. Restore message will appear in iTunes.  Release home button. The device will be recognized by iTunes, but no display will appear on the device itself.  The lack of a display on the device will verify that it is in dfu mode.
  • TS3694 RESTORING IPHONE IN RECOVERY MODE
    im trying to update my iphone 4s software to i06 and the download always stops 1/4 of the way and it comes up with a message...  unable to update... error 3004.. its so frustrating... please help!!
    Hi poppymoo,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I recommend trying the steps pertinent to error 3004 from this article:
    iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes can't contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
    Update to the latest version of iTunes.
    Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
    Check that your security or firewall software isn't interfering with ports 80 or 443 or with the server gs.apple.com.
    Follow these steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
    An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (go to "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
    Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you're using a proxy, try again without using a proxy.
    Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
    If you're using a Mac, this section may also help:
    Error 3004: If you're using a Mac, you may be able to resolve an error 3004 by quitting iTunes and using the following command in the command line: dscacheutil -flushcache.
  • HT4623 RESTORING IPHONE IN RECOVERY MODE
    im trying to update my iphone 4s software to i06 and the download always stops 1/4 of the way and it comes up with a message...  unable to update... error 3259.. its so frustrating... please help!!
    You might like to try rebooting the phone by holding down the Home Button and the Power button at the same time for about 5 secs on until the screen blacks out.  You should then see the Apple Logo until the phone restarts.
    So long as the phone is still functional you can always do a "Factory Reset" as a last resort. This will erase everything from your iPhone so you will need a local backup otherwise you will need to set up like a new phone.
    Is this an iPhone 5 ?
    Oh, and one other thing is your iPhone backed up to your computer or to iCloud?
