• 6th gen ipod nano not recognized by itunes on my PC (Windows 7). tried everything to fix, but still not working... please help

I have a 6th gen ipod nano that is not recognized by itunes on my PC (Windows 7). I get an error that it 'could not be identified properly'. I have tried all tips on the apple site to correct the problem, including unistalling and reinstalling itunes twice. Nothing works. Has anyone tried something that worked that is not part of the Apple support page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3218)? Thank you in advance for any help!

I have followed every troubleshooting page on the apple support site yet my ipod nano 6th gen is not recognized by itunes
I have spent 3 days messing with my pc and have made no real progress.
Then it's time to call Apple tech support while you are still under warranty. Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase. If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

• Why is my iPod Nano not recognized in iTunes but charges?

I have a Mac Book Pro and an original iPod Nano. I have old music on my Nano that I want to put on my comp, I have a program for that. But the thing is that even though when I plug in my Nano, it lights up and charges but it isn't recognized in iTunes. How can I fix this? Oh and my screen is broken so I can't reset anything from my iPod itself without like step by step direction because the click sound still works and I guess I can figure out what to do if you say like one click down or 2 clicks down... THANKS!!

Otherwise, take the computer & iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.

• Ipod nano not recognized by itunes and won't charge

Ipod nano is about 3 months old, worked fine before with itunes, but now ipod doesn't start itunes, doesn't show up in finder, and doesn't charge.
I have switched usb ports, reset the ipod, downloaded itunes 6. I downloaded ipod update, but computer doesn't recognize ipod so it isn't updated. I tried "restore", but again not recognized. I tried Isync but it can't find ipod.
Do I need a new cable that attaches ipod to computer?

Hello,
The cord might be the case, but first, try these suggestions:
Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then try connecting it to your computer again...

Do you have a wall charger? If so, then try connecting your iPod to that, and does it charge, or not?

I supposed you have downloaded and installed iTunes 7 on your PC.
It can be either a problem of your PC or the iPod, let have a prove.
Try to find any computer (of course with iTunes preinstalled), if your iPod showed up there, then it is a problem on your computer, read this

If your iPod does not show on any computer, then bring it back to the shop

• IPod Nano not recognized in iTunes but as hd in windows

So after running all the so called fixes on this article:
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
We are still not able to get this thing recognized by iTunes. My wife's 4g mini works fine, as well as my 80g 5g. I'm just thinking that this is a hardware issue. My buddy at an unnamed large chain retailer has had 12 of the 2nd gen Nanos come back to his store in the last week for the same issue Will not sync up in windows). Apple needs to get on the ball and get this fixed. My wife is ready to return it and wait for the Zune to come out, but i convinced her to wait to see what we get here.

just turn on terminal services like in:

• IPod Nano not recognized in iTunes, desktop, iPod reset

I went to update my iPod Nano's music selection and found it isn't showing up in iTunes. I reinstalled iTunes, restarted the computer, reset the Nano and still nothing. It does not show up in Disk Utility but does show up in Apple Disk Profiler. When I try the iPod updater, it says "waiting for the iPod to be ready". My 30 GB iPod works just fine, immediately recognized by iTunes. As soon as I connect the iPod Nano to the computer, it goes to "Do not Disconnect", darkens, and stays there. It does charge. How can I reformat the Nano if iTunes or iPod updater doesn't see/recognize it?

A couple of pages later in the forum, I saw something about disk mode. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
I tried that out and my Nano did mount. I then was able to restore the Nano to factory settings, after which time everything worked ok.

• Ipod Nano not recognized on itunes!

I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to help me!
I just my first Apple product, an Ipod Nano (6th generation). I went through all the proper setups, but for some reason, itunes will not recognize my Ipod Nano.
Why??? I was told to stay away from Apple, but I wanted to take a chance and prove my friends and family worng.
I have tried everything Apple Support has suggested (obviously this is a problem for so many people!
Can I get help from Apple without paying a $35 Product & Technical Support fee. Really?
Please help me......I don't want to be out $150! I don't have that money to waste!

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

• IPod Nano not recognized by itunes

I just purchased my Ipod nano. When I connected it initialy I was prompted to udate the software on it. Since then my computer reckognizes it as e:drive but when I try to use itunes or ipod updater it tells me to please conect an ipod when my ipod is already connected. The ipod meanwhile when connected to my computer only displays the message do not diconnect. I have tried resetting my ipod, and reinstalling itunes and ipod updater and nothing works. I thought it might be a problem with the ipod so i exchanged it for a new one and I am still having the same problems. Please Help!

I've posted this to a few threads now (remember to look around a bit here before posting a question -- chances are someone else has had the same problem).
It worked for me. The problem seems to be the 3_23 update:
1. Go to Start > Run
2. Type "diskmgmt.msc" (without quotes). If it tells you it can't find that program, try it without the ".msc"
3. That opens the Disk Management program.
4. You should see your Ipod listed as one of the "volumes." It may not be identified as an Ipod; might just say "removable storage device" or something like that. You can tell it's your Ipod by the gig space shown. If it's a 4 gig Ipod, you should see something like 3.7 gig shown (less if you've filled it with music already).
5. Right-click on that device and choose "Format..."
6. Choose the "FAT32" option and click "OK" or whatever it displays to start formatting (I forget, and I'm not testing it again now!)
7. You will lose any music files on the Ipod, but when it's done, your PC and Itunes should recognize the Ipod, and it should then work normally.
Be careful in that Disk Management program. You could wipe your hard drive if you choose drives incorrectly.

• IPod nano not recognized by iTunes, why & can it be fixed?

I registered my iPod Nano 3rd Gen when I created my iTunes account. Now that I have iPhone 4 as a device, iTunes no longer recognizes my iPod. I've tried most of the many user-unfriendly steps on Apple Support, to no avail. I want my iPod back & I'd live to know why it's "not registered", or I should say no longer registered.

• Ipod Nano not recognized by itunes but appears on the explorer. Log message

My ipod doesn't appear on itunes but is recognized by windows. It used to work before.
I have found several answers to this problem but no one can't solve the problem : 5R, Terminal Service, Ipod Service, Restore, Reset, Usb, Last version of Itunes....
With the last version of Itunes, I have launched the diagnotisc and the result is four green led.
I have recorded the log file and into this one there are few message that show errors (I have copied only interesting messages):
[SERVICE: 0x140,08:48:25 ERROR] Did not find first letter of stage
[SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] Device 1 not in intermediate state. It appears to be truly mounted.
[SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] File does not exist!
[SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] [1] CreateFileW error 0x3
[SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] [1] WriteNewPrefs FAILED!
[SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] [1] ReadDevicePreferences() failed!
I can't understand these messages but I have the feeling that they have a relation with the hidden file Preferences store in ipod_control\device
When I tried to open Preferences with "bloc note" of windows it doesn't work. Maybe this file is corrupted seen that I can open the file "SysInfo" which is in the same repertory. When I format the Ipod with FAT32, these files reappeared with the next power on and I have always same problem.
Does anyone know if this file "Preferences" is readable with a valid iPOD?
What mean "Did not find first letter of stage?" of the log message?
Thanks for your answers,
Nicolas

If its brand new and doing this, return it with receipt.

• IPod Nano Not Recognized in iTunes

Okay.
So I recieved my iPod Nano for xmas.
Had porblems that it wouldn't work after trying so i sent it back to an Apple store. They told me it was working fine, but that they would restore it to factory settings and then they sent it back.
Now I have it, and it's a strange scenario.
I have installed everything. I already have had iTunes for a while so I know how to use it and stuff, and I know my notebook pretty well.
I am not joking when I say I have tried absolutely everything on the support website and every manual I could find: whatever I seem to do, nothing works. My notebook know there is a iPod (I've checked in device manager), and even when I plug in the nano iTunes pops up and I get excited because i think it's starting to work... and then NOTHING!!! It won't show up in itunes!!!
I really am at my wits end! What can I do? Does anyone know except maybe physically go to an Apple store with nano & notebook to see if they can resolve the issue?
Thanksss.

• TS1538 iPod touch not recognized by iTunes, Windows only recognizes it as a camera.

So I've been having trouble with my iPod Touch and iTunes lately. First, the registry settings for the iTunes drivers message kept popping up whenever I opened my iTunes, prompting me to uninstall and reinstall iTunes at least a dozen times. After solving that problem, Windows has been able to recognize my iPod, but only as a camera and not as an iPod, preventing me from updating my music. I've tried different USB cords in different ports, but to no avail. My iPod is recognized on other computers as an iPod. I've followed the Apple resolutions but it still hasn't fixed my problem.

I've removed and reinstalled it many times and each time I do it, I always get the registry errors and the failure to download the driver, but I resolved those. Here are the diagnostic test results:

• 5th gen ipod nano not recognized by itunes

I plugged in my 5th gen nano and itunes told me that it could not recognize it and I had to factory reset it. I factory reset it and now it won't connect to itunes. it connects to my computer and it says connected on the ipod screen, but it won't let me sync my songs to it. I have the latest version of itunes 11.0.1. I already reinstalled itunes, restarted my conputer and restarted my ipod. Is there anything else I can try?

I seen this problem a lot. Since you are a Windows user (I can make it real easy). If you don't have the side screen (left hand side)..... look at the Top Right Hand side (under the close button [red X] ).... you should see your iPod there. If it doesn't work, try to reset your entire iPod and it should connect to your iTunes......
if this doesn't help.... click on the link below.....

• IPOD NANO NOT RECOGNIZED by ITUNES but is Recognized by Windows

For those of you having this issue please reply with any information you may have. After reading 50 plus articles I have come to the conclusion that Apple's current version of ITunes 7+ is a secrete beta test unleashed on the unsuspecting public. I have tried three unique windows pc's, using Itunes version 6, and called tech support (Tech support "claims" that I need to reinstall windows BS!). ITUNES DID NOT RECOGNIZE my IPod with ITunes 6.05, 7.01,7.02, or 7.1.
I would like everyone to support this Thread with as many post as possible Lets bring the worm out of the rotten Apple.
Thanks.

Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?
