First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. Apple, as I said, does not repair your iPhone. All hardware service issues are handled by replacing the unit. So they can't handle the home-button issue without also addressing the issue of the cracked screen, for which they'll almost certainly charge you. But you can make an appointment at an Apple Store or call Apple tech support and plead your case.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You cannot downgrade

Installed latest softward for my ipad 2 and now it want's me to connect to iTunes and restore to factory settings!? What do I do? I can't access the iPad2 other than a screen that shows a plug being inserted into the iTunes logo.

So I saw that my software needed to be updated, so I did it over wifi, then a picture with the plug being inserted into the iTunes logo appears on the screen when finished the install. I plug my iPad 2 into the connector and iTunes sees the iPad 2 connected. Then a window opens that says to restore to use iTunes. I click restore and a second message appears stating something to the effect "Are you sure you want to restore to factory setting all info will be lost."
NO I don't want to loose everything.
My iPad only powers on with the image of a cord pugging into the iTunes logo. I can't get past it and I don't want to restore the iPad 2 to factory settings.
What do I do?

I just got my iPod Touch fixed because the screen was cracked. I was on it and it was just fine until it died. I plugged it into my wall charger and it told me to connect to iTunes on the computer, so I did, and iTunes told me that my iPod was in recovery mode and the only way to put it back to normal is to restore it to factory settings. I know that this erases all memory as if you just bought it. It isn't letting me use my iPod, so do I have to erase it? I don't have all of my apps or pictures on my computer, but I have most of them. I do have all of my songs on the computer though. So do I have to erase it?

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Home Sharing in iTunes. I recommend the following steps for the issue you described:
4. Check your network connection
Home Sharing requires a home network with an active Internet connection. All the devices you want to use with Home Sharing need to be connected to your home network.
In addition, verify that:
All your devices are connected to the same router, if you have multiple routers. Using multiple routers may prevent discovery between these devices.
Your devices are not using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), or that they are all on the same VPN. A VPN may isolate the device and cause connectivity disruptions.
If you have a router set up with a guest network, make sure all devices are either connected to the guest network and devices on the guest network are allowed to communicate with each other, or switch all devices to the primary network on your router.
If your computer is asleep or shutdown, or iTunes is closed, there's no access to the shared iTunes library. Wake up or start the computer and open iTunes to regain access to that library.
Your router needs to be up-to-date. If you are using an AirPort or Time Capsule, read this article to find out more about firmware updates. If you are using a router from another manufacturer, contact the manufacturer to inquire about available updates.
5. Check Firewall Settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu >System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
Block all incoming connections
Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
6. Quit and reopen apps and iTunes
If connectivity issues persist, quit and reopen iTunes on your computer. Then, quit and reopen the apps on your iOS device.
7. Restart your network router
Restart your home network router using the method recommended in documentation from the manufacturer. This may include disconnecting the power cord for thirty seconds or more.
Note: During this period, Internet services such as a VoIP-based phone will not work, and any additional routers may need to be reset in sequence.

there is a program called recboot. you can download it for free in two parts. one part takes your device out of recovery mode and the other puts it into recovery mode. ive used it before but it doesnt always work and you have to be patient. try it and tell me what happens

Daughter IPOD Touch 4th lost all music from itunes, Itunes suggested to restore to factory settings. Have done so last few days, all showing 20 hours to restore then times out and starts back to 20 hours again. Will not sync at all. HELP

IPOD TOUCH(4th gen) MUSIC DISPLAY has wiped out all my music. The music I have is all still on ITUNES but will NOT SYNC. When attempted a displayes message appeared- Cannot read contents of IPOD (my IPOD name), go to Summary tab to Restore to factory settings. When I click OK it takes me to a CLICK on RESTORE OPTION, which I did. Then it explains that I will lose all APPS, etc.. to restore. I clicked OK again and it shows my IPOD is Downloading Software Update. The only thing being it has done this for 3 days now. It starts by stating will take 20 hours, goes down to 12 or 10 and prompts OUT and when I redo the thing again it starts back up at 20 hours but continually times out. *Also, in case it matters ,the SYNC option on my IPOD in ITUNES is Highlighted as to where I cannot use that option. Everytime I start it back up I get the same message (Cannot read contents of IPOD, go to Summary Tab,etc..) Help.
