TS1538 Problems Updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver  for ipad4

My iTunes was not recognising my new ipad4 and so I followed Apple guidelines re. Apple Mobile Device Service and found that this was not listed on my laptop.
I then followed guidelines to update the driver - I followed steps to install the usbaapl file, however when I clicked ok to install the following message came up:
"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for 32-bit systems."
Any ideas/tip/advice anyone can offer would be much appreciated! I just want to get my music onto my new iPad :(
Thanks.

  • Why can't I install iTunes version 10.5 or higher? I've tried everything suggested on this forum, my friend has a mac and she can't either and it seems like the main problem is the apple Mobile device.exe wont install and applesync

    Hey anybody,
Neither myself (running on PC windows vista 32 bit) or my friend (on a mac) are able to install versions of iTunes around 10.5 or higher successfully. This leads me to believe the problem isn't necessarily with our computers and there may be something wrong elsewhere. I'm not a computer wiz but I have tried most of the advice on these forums e.g. Uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting temporary files, expanding files and trying individual downloads and more. I can install older versions of iTunes where they use to combine it with QuickTime with no problems however this is no good to me or my friend because only versions 10.5 and up come with support with iPhone 4S and that's what we need. I managed after several attempts to install iTunes 10.52 but without the apple mobile device so therefor the iTunes wouldn't connect to my phone or recognise it, apple sync notifier also has problems and fails to start.
Please can someone help me with this, I have tried everything on the apple troubleshooting pages so please don't link me those. Or please can iTunes and apple do something in an update that corrects this problem because I know many people are having similar issues. I only bought this phone for the music and at the moment I feel cheated because I wouldn't have these problems with any other phone because I'd just be able to drag and drop.

    Hi there,
I had the same experience. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, with Windows 7 Home Edition, 32 bit.
I tried to install iTunes 10.5 and it started installing, then, just before the end of the process, came up with the following error message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Of course, no information on what the program that couldn't be run was! At first I tried the usual stuff, like scanning for viruses etc. but nothing doing. Then I started Googling. In the end, I uninstalled all Apple stuff from my computer. A lot of it I had to do manually, going in to the program files drive and deleting stuff from there, but some of it wouldn't delete as it was saying it was open in Windows Explorer. In the end, I managed to delete the iTunes folders by selecting one of my mp3 tracks saved on the computer and right clicking 'open with'. I then browsed my pc to locate the iTunes folders still outstanding and was able to right click and delete them that way.
Then emptied the recycle bin and did a restart before going online and downloading iTunes 10.5.
Thankfully it worked, but its taken me a good few hours and made me really quite tetchy! I've never had this problem before, so I hope this is going to be a one off.
One thing that doesn't seem to be working is that, despite how many times I tell it that my preference is for the iTunes Media folder to be located on my external hard drive, it keeps putting it back to the C drive! Didn't have that issue with the last version. Grrrrrr. Arrrrgggh.
Hope you manage to get yours sorted - this is affecting a lot of people by the look of things.

  • Vista update bug - Apple mobile device driver (recovery mode) fix.

I just wanted to post this quickly to help any others who had this issue with Vista on the 1.1.3 update.
During the upgrade the phone will be placed into recovery mode, vista does not have the drivers installed by default - (the bug in this case is vista will not be able to locate the drivers and not only will fail the update but "brick" in a sense due to it's inability to locate them and leave you in recovery mode and not sync to iTunes).
    It's real easy to fix:
    1. Dissconnect your iPhone.
    2. Reboot & reconnect the phone.
    3. Select "Install Drivers Later".
    4. Open the Start menu > (Right click) My Computer > Select Properties.
    5. Select "Device Manager" from the top left pane.
    6. The phone will be listed under "Other devices" as [Apple Mobile Device].
    7. Right click it and select update drivers - Select "Browse my computer..."
    8. Navigate to c:\\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    9. Click okay - Watch it install - Backup & Update with iTune - Chill out.

I have this same problem with 1.1.3, and followed your instructions. In device manager I find Apple Mobile Device under 'USB controllers' - no 'Other Devices' heading shows. When I follow steps 7 + 8 to update the driver, I get to the Apple Mobile Device folder and click, but then get the message 'drivers not found', and the device then disappears from the device manager panel. Any further tips. I'm definitely finding it difficult to chill at the moment. Thanks

  • Windows 7 64 bit doesn't recognise my ipad, iphone because the apple mobile device driver is not digitally signed

Why is it when the internet is flooded with the same problem as mine that Apple are not doing something to fix this?
on the apple troubleshooting site the troubleshooting steps don't even refer to the latest version of itunes but to the previous version where the devices are listed in the left hand column! what's that all about?
Anyway I can pay microsoft 75 dollars to sort this for me or I can try to sort it myself. Apple doesn't seem to be at all interested in helping their CUSTOMERS  with this problem, I can only presume it's because these CUSTOMERS are using a microsoft product.
Come on Apple! get your **** in order and provide proper customer support even for those of us who still want to use windows OS computers.

I'm having a similar problem - my computer tells me that "one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it". I'm also using Windows 7 64bit.

  • How can I download the Apple Mobile Device Driver?

I'm not sure how it happened but my laptop stopped recognizing my iPhone (5S) at all, including as a camera. I tried uninstalling all apple products and reinstalling iTunes, as well as making sure my USB drivers worked, but the driver still isn't there. Help??

Well firstly you want to make sure you uninstalled itunes completely and correctly.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
Following this article is important when uninstalling itunes make sure you read the part near the bottom that talks about the order in                                      which you must uninstall the components.
If you still have trouble there is a wonderful tool from microsoft called iFixit ( A simple google search for "iFixit" should yield a webpage - http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/en-us
use the uninstaller to completely remove any troublesome components and make sure after you uninstall and after you reinstall that you restart your computer.

  • HT4235 Where do I find the Apple mobile device driver?

my ipod connects to xp, all diagnostics pass execpt for the sync test. ipod starts to sync and then stops.
    Help1

I had this problem also.  It is acturally that the AMDS roled back when it was installing and isn't on you computer to turn off and on.
Here is what I did:  Download Roxio Unistaller Pro.  It's free.
Then I uninstalled everything Apple, and I mean everything.  Itunes, Bounjour, Safari, AMDS, Apple Support.  If it looked like Apple, I got rid of it.  The neat thing about the Roxio program is that you can scan after the program's unistall and find crap the the program did not take off and select all and Delete.
Then, I downloaded Itunes again and Presto, it works.

  • Old iPod mini can't be recognized after formatting, and iTunes 'Apple Mobile Device Driver not found.'

My roommate gave me an old iPod Mini a few days ago. It was working fine 'til I plugged it into my computer and it asked me to format it. I did, and now it cannot be recognized by iTunes or my computer. My computer views it as a "removable disk" which cannot be accessed. In devices, it is listed as an Apple iPod though, so I'm hoping not all is lost. I have tried many quick fixes I've read on internet (including changing disk letter) but to no avail. I have reinstalled the new iTunes and now that is telling me it has not installed properly, and when I ran diagnostics, it reads that the Apple Mobile Device Driver not found. I will copy & paste all the info from the diagnostic run below, and if anybody can help me with my new (old) iPod, I'd be everly greatful!

What i knew about iPhone before buying it:
    What You Need

iTunes 7.3 or later, available at www.itunes.com

  • This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not

I have a Dell 32 bit Windows XP and an iPod touch.
Recently I tried to sync my iPod but received the following error:
This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started.
So I googled the error message and someone suggested that I go to My Computer>Manage>Services>Apple Mobile Device and manually start the service.
However when I tried to manually start the service, I got the following message:
Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified.
I tried reinstalling iTunes, but no help.

    Hello Jonashin,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Perhaps try re-installing just the Apple Mobile Device driver as described in this Apple support document.

  • Missing  apple mobile device driver

I have a new Itouch that I am able to sync on my laptop but not on my desktop. When I plug the Itouch into the USB porton my desktop, it is recognized as a camera. I have installed and uninstalled the latest version of Itunes several times with no results. It appears that the only difference in the installation of Itunes between the laptop and the desktop is that it appears that I am missing the apple mobile device driver (verified by going through the apple doc #306640)on my desktop. Running Xp with service pack 2 on both computers. Why isn't this component being loaded into my desktop and where can I obtain it? Thanks.

Try uninstalling the following items in order:
Apple mobile device (might not be installed)
    Apple software update
    iTunes
    Quicktime
    Now restart computer.
Now download itunes743setup and save it to your desktop.
Disable any anti-virus and internet security.
    Now install itunes.
If this does not work, then there is something blocking the apple mobile device from installing.
this article from the apple support website will help turn everything off except what the computer needs. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    Uninstall the items previously mentioned.
    Restart the computer again.
    Then install itunes again.
The apple mobile device driver is installed with itunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Apple Mobile Device Driver issues

First let me start that I have read dozens of pages on the various Apple sites which attempt to help fix this problem - some are just plain awful, some make no sense at all (disconnect cable, do x y and x, but no instruction ever to re-connect cables - well how is that going to fix anything). Anyway my primary machine is a Vista Ultimate (32 bit) laptop, with iTunes 10.0.1.22 and the library on a NAS device. I have several iPods, including a Touch and they all connect and synch easily with iTunes. Two days ago I received an iPad and connected to this machine and got the dreaded - load drivers, errors, followed by the Driver load failed messages. Spent 1+ hours trying all the advice to no affect. The Device Manager shows no indication of the Apple Mobile Device driver and only shows the iPad for a short time under Other Devices with an Exclamation point. No note of a Mass Storage device there or in Windows Explorer. I then connected the iPad to my Windows & machine and it immediately was recognized and sync'd with iTunes. This afternoon, I went thru the same aggravation with a brand new Shuffle. No dice on the Vista machine, immediate success on the Windows 7 machine. Isn't there a SIMPLE way to get the driver installed properly under Vista. Pointed the driver process to the C:/Program Files/Common Files/Apple/Mobile Device Support/Drivers and there is some action, I see the driver, but again some process kicks in and the whole device driver failure process starts again.
This whole process is giving me a bad taste for i_software. I consider myself a sophisticated computer user (IT professional with hands-on PC experience for 20 years).

I agree, but I have 2.5 years on this Vista machine and upgrading it to Win7 really means tossing it - not a bad idea; but next week I migrate my work PC (XP!!) - and I can only take 1 excedrine migrane a day!

  • ITunes & Apple Mobile Device Driver Not Compatible w/ Windows 64bit Systems

In short, I spent over 2 hours on the phone tonight with Apple Support. The call was elevated to a software engineer. After several minutes he apologigized and state the Apple Mobile Device Driver is not compatible with Windows 64Bit systems.
Therefore I can't activate or do anything for that matter. I effectivly have a $600 paper weight. I asked the engineer if they have any intention fixing it and never received a direct response.
None of the documentation that I have found states 64bit Operating Systems are not supported. The support rep stated nor he or his collegues were unware the mobile device driver didn't support 64 bit OSs either. I consider this to be really misleading and a huge oversight on Apple's part.
I wrapped up the call by asking him how I go about returning the device without being struck by the 10% restocking fee. He didn't know.
Anyone have Steve's number? I sure would be nice to get at the minimum a full refund.
I just thought everyone else should know so you don't tie up support lines and waste your time trying to find a resolution.
