TS1538 windows 7 not recognizing ipod

Neither Windows 7 nor iTunes are recognizing my iPod Classic.  I followed all of the steps available in the Apple Troubleshooting section, but there does not even appear to be any sort of device in my Device Manager that is remotely iPod-esque (or USB storage-esque for that matter).  What's even more troubling is that nearly 5,000 of my songs are from CDs and are only on my iPod now (It took me weeks to copy them all and I do NOT want to go through that again).  Is there any way to restore my iPod without deleting everything?  And if so, is there any way to copy my music from my iPod onto iTunes?  I understand piracy prevention, but this is downright ridiculous.  I wish I would have bought anything besides an iPod to listen to music on.  :/

My I-tunes will not recognize my ipod touch.  My PC does see it and I've tried re-starting the device software.  Any ideas?

    Hello cpottier,
It sounds like your iPod is not being recognized in iTunes. I recommend the following article to help troubleshoot that:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
    1. Update iTunes
    2. Check the USB cable
    3. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    4. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
    5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
    6. Check for third-party software conflicts
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • Windows 8 not recognizing ipod device

Does anyone know how to make windows 8 work with apple devices (ipod/iphone)?  Itunes will not let me sync these devices

    See:

I would start with ( it is applicable to win 8)

  • Windows suddenly not recognizing iPod Shuffle - drive letter conflict

If you're having troubles with your PC not recognizing your Shuffle even though it used to recognize it in the past, this is just something else to consider (sorry if it's already been covered):
When I originally connected my Shuffle to my laptop on my home network, it was recognized immediately, and my WinXP OS assigned it the drive letter "I". Later, with the Shuffle no longer connected to the laptop, I was setting up my home network, and I mapped one of my shared network locations to the "I" drive letter on my laptop. The next time I plugged my Shuffle in, Windows would not recognize it. I proceeded to plug it into both of the other computers on my home network, and it was recognized immediately on both of them. So I then went back to the original laptop, disconnected the network drive mapping I had set up for "I". Once I did that, when I plugged my Shuffle back in, the Shuffle was again being recognized immediately (not surprisingly, still as drive letter "I"). In short, Windows has a memory of drive mappings made in the past, and sometimes this can produce unexpected or unwanted behavior (I would have expected my Shuffle to automatically be assigned the next open drive letter, but alas, that was not the case in my experience).
To minimize the possibility of running into this problem again (in case I do more network drive mapping in the future), I used the Disk Management utility in WinXP to change/force the Shuffle's drive letter on my laptop to be "Z" (right click on My Computer and choose Manage, then look for the Disk Management module - you probably will need Admin rights to do this, but I haven't confirmed that).

Had this happening too, had a very old cable, tried a new cable and it worked great. My ipod was showing up in itunes, but not in windows (or in device manager). When I tried to use the utility to copy files from my ipod to my hard drive I couldn't do it (wonderful utility getsharepod.com). The new cable solved the problem!

  • Windows Xp not recognizing Ipod

I tried to install my new Ipod Nano but it didn't work : during the installation, the first time I connected My Ipod, windows warned me not to intsall it. I Try to start again, but nothing happened, except the little noise, telling me a new usb is connected (but without icon). (I 've already tried the "5 R" and nothing happened). What else can I try ?

  • Windows 7 not recognizing iPod Touch

I just bought a new Windows 7 Home Premium laptop and I'm trying to connect my iPod Touch to it to put my music on my new laptop (my old computer crashed with all the music from my iPod plus more, and most of it wasn't otherwise stored), but when I plug in the iPod Touch to the computer, Windows 7 does not show it as connected. iTunes shows it is connected and it charges just fine, though.
    So I guess I have 2 questions:
    1. How do I get Windows 7 to recognize the iPod Touch?
    2. Is there a way to transfer the music from my iPod BACK to my computer without screwing up my iPod and risk losing my music?

I have just purchased a 30gb Ipod and have tried to connect it to my computer. My wife's Ipod has no problems being recognized, and neither did mine after a few tweaks. Now it does not recognize the new ipod at all. Any suggestions on how to make this work every time would be appreciated.

  • TS1538 windows xp not recognizing iphone - apple usb driver not in list

I have followed all the troubleshooting steps in TS1538.  I have uninstalled everything associated with apple and reinstalled the latest version of itunes at least 10 times.  I have tried and tried and tried to figure out how to get the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver to show up in the device manager list with no luck.  Everything else appears to be as it should according to all the troubleshooting steps with the exception that the USB driver will not show up in the list.  I've tried taking a screenshot and getting the computer to recognize it as a camera without luck.  I've tried using a different apple iphone, and ipad and an ipod with no luck.  I've taken my phone and cable to another computer and it works perfectly.  There is something preventing itunes from installing the usb driver on my computer.  This is my work computer that I need to sync with to keep my contacts and appointments synced.  Please help!!!  I have disabled everything I can including software, antivirus and all peripherals without any luck.  I am running winXP service pack 3 and itunes v. 10.7.0.21.
This has worked great for the last 2 years and then stopped working about 3 weeks ago and I have been trying to fix it off and on since then.  Any and all help is appreciated.  It started when I was trying to get my sons locked iphone 3G to sync with my computer and it wouldn't show up.  That was the last thing to sync with this computer and nothing has worked since.  I am confident that I've eliminated all the variables that I could.
Thank you for you time and effort.
    Chad

Maybe a Microsoft Update broke the driver? Or an update to your security software? Have you rebooted your computer? Have you tried disabling your antivirus and firewall? Have you tried removing and reinstalling iTunes?

  • TS1538 Windows 8 Not Recognizing iPhone 4.

It worked fine yesterday.  if not yeseterday then definitely the day before.  I tried several things, including what is listed on Apple's troubleshooting site.  But I see that several others are reporting the same thing just today, so apparently there must be some sort of iPhone-wide problem??
How to fix this?  I doubt I still have Applecare. I used to have it when I was using Mac devices but it proved to be totally not worth the cost. . . But still, I have paid for this phone, so I expect it to work or to be able to get customer service for it.
Anyone have any idea what is going on here?
Am using a Toshiba Satellite Windows 8 PC.  I cant think of anything that i've installed lately.   ALTHOUGH.... there has been this sudden unusual error for hte past week saying something about RunTime.

  • 11.1.4.62 itunes update not recognizing ipod touch

Please Help.  Did the update to Windows 8.1 yesterday and now iTunes does not recognize my iPod(s) etc.  I looked in Windows and device shows up but now in iTunes.  I downloaded the new iTunes and reinstalled (Repair) and that did not help.  Anyone have any suggestions at all?

See section 5 of TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows.
If that doesn't help it may pay to tear down and reinstall iTunes in the following manner...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
