TS1541 volume won't mount for main user-intel imac with mountain lion-what to do?

After logging in to admin user, grey screen with spinning arrow
Can login to Guest User but that is just set up for Safari only
Tried starting in Safe Boot, zapped the PRAM, removed all peripherals, rebooted with installation disk and used Disk Utility - disk greyed out and says not mounted
How can that be?
this is an Intel-based iMac purchased last summer, recently installed Mountain Lion

I have the same problem. Installed Mountain Lion, got the spinning orb with no escape so I powered down. Upon re-boot I have the dreaded "?" Tried restarting several times to no avial.
In desperation, I inserted the 10.5 (Leopard) disk to install the original system version that came with my iMac. Now the install disk cannot find or mount my hard drive. I'm stuck.
Anyone??

Boot Camp doesn't install the drivers. You have the drivers on a separate USB device if you followed directions. Once in Windows connect the USB drive with the driver software. It should startup automatically and install the drivers.
You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:

Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable.

  • New late 2012 iMac with Mountain Lion - won't open Reader Library

Everything transferred from my old iMac (2009) to my new iMav (late 2012), except for the READER LIBRARY.  It won't open on the desktop, and it won't open or recognize my Sony e-reader.

I'm about to attempt the same thing -- migrate everything from my old iMac (running 10.6.8) to a brand-new iMac (running Mountain Lion).
Still using FCP7, with no intention of switching to FCP X.
Should Migration Assistant work for me?  Would updating my old iMac to Mountain Lion first make a difference?  (I've already purchased it for my laptop, just haven't used it on my iMac).

Could someone help me with instructions for doing a clean install for Could someone help me with instructions for doing a clean install for an early 2009 iMac 20"  with Mountain Lion 10.8.4 ?

       Barney,  William,  nbar, Galt\'s Gulch:
A nephew stayed with us to take a course at the local community college last semester. I allowed him use of my mac for research just after I installed Mountain Lion. He decided to "help out" and ran a 3rd party clean and tune up app., Magician.  The tune up wiped over 1200 titles of my music in iTunes,  also a path of folders with names containing nothing but more empty folders with names. Almost every program I open and run for a short time crashes, also folders and programs are in wrong places, or cannot be located (the nephew, for instance). Up to this time I have always been able to track a problem far enough to resolve it by careful persistence and good luck, but I do not have the tech savvy to solve this one without getting in deeper. I have run disk utility saveral times and always get  variations of this:
ACL found but not expected on
    "private/etc/resolve.conf"
    "private/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/inner-tunnel"
    "private/etc/rabbd/sites-enabled/control-socket"
Also, after four years of intense daily use it is cluttered with much junk,  and every app that I was curious about, and I am a very curious guy.
So I know my limits, (and now my nephew). I dumped my pc for a Strawberry iMac a few years ago, and so far every problem I've encountered, or brought on myself, the Mac has resolved with its own inner elegance - in spite of my novice bungels - and now I honestly feel ashamed, in addition to the need to apologize to a machine for allowing a peasant into the Royal Grounds - so I am calling the Wise Ones in for this one.
Crazy, I know, but to me a Mac represents something far beyond the ordinary  input ➛ process  ➛ output  title/function customarily assigned to a machine - I sense an odd kind of morality involved, one that I need to respect.
So, these are my reasons for wanting to do a clean install, correctly.
            Thank you,  Truitt

  • InDesign won't launch for main user account

I upgraded to a new Mac Pro and copied over my old user and computer, all except the Applications folder. I reinstalled InDesign and it worked once, then crashed. It would not open after that, and I have since reinstalled. Still will not open. It bounces a few times and stops. I've created another ADMIN test account, and InDesign launches fine. Now my question is how to get it to launch in my main user account. Do the permissions need to be fixed, and if so, how?

I have removed everything from my user library and reinstalled InDesign. Now InDesign begins to launch, but then crashes when it gets to the 'Starting up Service Registry' line on the application screen. Any thoughts? My call to apple has yielded a 'we've done everything we can do' response.

  • Macbook air locks up instead of standby. Cannot wake with screen black and no sound. Have to hold power button for total restart. Happened with Mountain Lion and Maverick

I've had this issue since first buying my MBA mid-2013. Instead of going to standby, which works 98% of the time, every now and again it appears to go into standby with the screen black, but no amount of key pressing or mouse moving will wake it up. I am forced to hold down power button for a manual restart and faced with losing work. This problem has occured whilst using Mountain Lion and still occuring since updating to Maverick.

    Hi there, GoreLeech,
as per above extract from your error log, you have experienced a kernel panic due to problems with your Nvidea GeForce GT 330 M graphics card that has a 256 MB memory.
This may be due to the card not having enough memory for what you are doing, the only thing, I can suggest here is to call Apple, and get the machine checked out. You can run the Apple hardware test at home but I'd recommend getting it booked in with Apple. What is worse: A computer that randomly malfunctions, or doing without it for up to one week (often they repair it within a day!)?

  • Outlook (office for Mac 2011) not working with Mountain Lion

Ever since I upgaded to mountain lion outlook (office for Mac 2011) takes 2 minutes to start up. Apple support tells me that MSFT has not done its work. SO I don't recommend anybody who is using outlook to upgrade.

This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office in any way. I suggest you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

  • Will Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 work on my iMac with Mountain Lion OS?

Help!  I have downloaded Mountain Lion (10.8.4) on my iMac. Now I can't open or use files that contained labels I made with Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 because Mountain Lion does not support Power PC and Microsoft Excel.  If I purchase and download Office for Mac 2011, will it allow me to continue using these label files?  If not, how can I get a database for my iMac that will enable me to create labels and catalogues?

Thanks, Niel.  I'm glad to know purchasing the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 will enable me to retrieve and use my "ancient" database label files.  I did try to get OpenOffice, but my computer says "'OpenOffice' can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" and my "security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."  How can I do this?  I really don't know about the inner workings of my computer!

  • Solution for using power pc apps with mountain lion

Options for using my Power Pc Apps with Mountian Lion?   Specificly I need to use Citrix ICA Client editor.

You would have to erase Mountain Lion and reinstall Lion in order to use PPC apps.  Or you could try to Upgrade to a newer version of the PPC software that would no longer be PPC based.
    Hope this helps

  • Software updates for Iphoto, Safari that work with Mountain lion

Will completing the Software updates for Safarem Iwork, Iphoto, Imovie, create problems if I have not updated my Os from Lion to Mountain Lion

No, software update will only offer you updates relevant to your current OS, which for you is 10.7
This is always the case whatever OS you are running. For example, if you have a really old OS no software updates will be offered at all, because there will be none.

  • My iMac (With Mountain Lion) Freezes After Leaving It On For 1 Week

This isn't the first time this has happened, I started to recently pay attention to the amount of days my machine is on and now see it's approx. 7 to 8 days then it will just lock up and freeze, can't click or do anything.
Then I'm forced to power it down.
I won't browse or anything, I have no 3rd party plugins, I haven't tweaked anything, I keep it dead simple, which has me confused on what to do now.

Yea, that really doesn't help when I already stated everything I do is normal.
I did state that my machine has no kind of 3rd party software that runs when this happens.
I don't tweak my computer ( modifying it, etc )
I keep everything simple to the way it was ( so simple that I even use the Aqua wallpaper & Flurry screensaver lol )
I did run Disk Utility and tend to atleast once a month just to check if things are running ok.
So again, all is normal with what I run and throughout the time before this happens, everything runs smoothly with no hiccups.

  • DVD-R won't mount with Mountain Lion

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion on 2009 MacBook Pro and now cant mount a blank DVD-R to archive. Any ideas?

Hi, Im having exactly the same problem with my 2009 iMac and I cant find an actual solution- it's NOT a hardware problem, as it reads both music CDs and movie DVDs, the problem is with blank discs.
My theory is that Apple have disabled the facility, as all the new Macs that ship with mountain Lion don't have an optical drive installed (only the Mac Pro's and they ship with Lion and Mountain Lion is offered as a download) and they are trying to drive consumers onto their Cloud Storage facility.
Maybe this is why it's so difficult to find a solution and why Apple have kept so very quiet with their responses on these forums...
Come on Apple, if you read this please act upon it- do I now have to downgrade back to Lion just to use my Superdrive as it's meant for?!

  • Is there a wall mount for the late 2012 iMac 27"?

Is there a wall mount for the late 2012 iMac 27"?

There are wall mounts available but they are tricky to fit and need to be sturdy to take the weight of a 27" iMac.
It is a two stage process... you need a VESA Mount Adapter Kit for the iMac and then a suitable wall mount.
    Google will help you out.

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.
