This has happened to me very recently too. Is it a know hardware issue or do we need an update?
Follow this article: iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
If that fails to resolve the issue, follow this article: iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
If that fails, the device has a hardware fault.

I have done everything from "Reset Network Settings" to "Erase All Content and Settings" and finally restoring the iOS Software (7.0.6), but the Wi-Fi settings are still grayed out. Bluetooth is also not getting enabled. Can anyone suggest what can be done?

hello. I need help. wi-fi toggle in my iPhone 4S on iOS 6.0.1 is inactive. it happened suddenly. could you tell me, what should I do? how can it be fixed? thanks!

I just posted the same issue for my one yr old 4S! Restart ur mobile. Go to General -> Reset -> Reset Network settings.
After resetting you shud be able to see the WIFI back. But I heard its not a permanent solution. I tried and it worked for my 4S but again it gets of WIFI automatically. Check & let me know if u get some other solution.

    See:

It is frequently a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Symptoms
In rare instances, the setting to turn on Wi-Fi on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may appear grayed out or dim. You may see the following when you tap Settings > Wi-Fi.
If this occurs, you can't turn Wi-Fi on, and when you try to turn Wi-Fi on, your device won't respond. If you're using iOS 7, Wi-Fi may appear to turn on and off in Control Center, but Wi-Fi won't respond.
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you still can't turn Wi-Fi on, please contact Apple for support and service options. If you can turn Wi-Fi on but are experiencing other issues with Wi-Fi, please see these steps.

Your device has a hardware failure and only replacement or repair will fix it.  Take it to an Apple Store or an Apple authorized service provider.

The "join" button on both my iPad and iPhone is grayed out. Network can be seen but not joined

I've reset the password a few times and know I am using the correct one. I get the same error on both my iPad and iPhone. Both see the network but maybe there is a problem with the router. I've also reset that a few times with no luck. Thank you.

  • Sign in to download from the App Store screen has the wrong Apple ID- grayed out. How can I change it?

When I have a software update notification and I go to the 'Updates" tab of the App Store and click 'update',  the flash screen 'Sign in to download from the App Store comes up the the Apple ID is wrong and grayed out so I can't change it.  Where is the bogus Apple ID stored? How can I 'ungray' it to make it editable?
I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on an IMAC 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
              File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
              Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
              Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
              Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

If you did the troubleshooting for greyed out Wi-Fi with no result, this might be hardware related and the phone has to be checked by an Authorized Apple Service Provider or by Apple. You can find the contact info for your country by clicking on this link:

  • HT1414 i reseted my iphone to factory setting and Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim

So my Iphone Wi-if is grayed out, leaving me no option to turn on my wifi.
I tried resetting and restoring my iphone already..
Please help i do not want to constantly use my data.  thanks !

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4S. I called the lab and they told me this can only happen by getting the iPhone wet or hot, my iPhone never got wet so the only option left was that it got hot so I read somewhere online that you can stick it in a refrigerator for some minutes and then the Wi-Fi will get back but I didn't know for how many minutes so put it in the freezer for 20 minutes and then the Wi-Fi  came back but only for 30 minutes because it got hot again. The lab also told me that this was a hardware problem with the inner panel of the iPhone. And they can only fix it if it's still responding but if it's not responding they can't fix it, only Apple can, because they don't sell the panel to other stores. The catch was that if they open the iPhone and find out they can't fix it not only that it cost me money also I lose the warranty and Apple won't take back the phone and replace it or fix it, or if they do it will cost me more money.
So if anyone could tell me if they know how many minutes to put it in the freezer or if they know about another solution that could be a lot of help because I don't live in a country where there are any Apple stores.
    Thanks, and good luck;)
