TS1630 CANNOT HEAR ANYONE ON A CALL UNLESS I TURN ON THE SPEAKER THEN I CAN HEAR
hi all have a problem with iphone that when i get a call the only way to hear it is to turn on the speaker .
Hey bernssh,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are having issues with your primary handset microphone. If there was a potential hardware issue with the primary handset microphone, there is a good chance you would not experience the issue in Speakerphone, as this utilizes a separate microphone. To isolate the issue further, and ultimately determine if it is indeed hardware related, please see the following articles:

iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1630
iPhone: Sound muffled or low from the speaker or when speaking into the mic

Thanks,
Matt M.

when i call someone i can not hear the phone ring or the people talking. They can not hear me either. what i do notice if i select speaker then i can hear them through the speaker phone only
If there's an Apple store nearby make an appointment with the genius bar to have it checked. Be sure to sync it and back it up, as well as import your photos and videos to your computer and back up your contacts separately (such as by sync them with iCloud) in case it needs to be replaced.

After a successful home button repair on my iPhone 4, I've got a buzzing sound when I make or receive calls. No problem with the speaker as I can listen to online radio stations and my music.
I guess your definition of a "successful repair" is different from most people's.
If you got it serviced by Apple, take it back to them.
If you had it serviced by a 3rd party, Apple won't touch it. Take it back to whoeever fixed it for you. -
After a week or so of installing IOS 7 now I having this problem, the speakers don't work for videos, music or apps sounds, but they work fine for using the speaker phone. It's definitely some software issue as the volume control appears when i plug in the earphones, but disappears when unplugging them, same happens with the volume buttons on the side, they don't work when trying to use the speakers, but the work when using the earphones. Please help if you have a workaround for this. I don't want to carry my earphones all the time to listen to videos and music.
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

Replace the jack yourself

When I receive or make a phone call, I have to hit the speaker phone icon to hear the conversation and so does everyone else around me.
My phone was perfect until I updated to the newest version.
The person making the call can hear me, but I cant' hear them until I push the speakerphone.
Any resolve to this please and thankyou.Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss) -

Hi,
Are you seeing an Invite Window ?
Video Invites are normally top centre of your screen and will appear to "float" over any other app you you using.
Audio Only invites are top and right of the screen.

Just uploaded IOS 8 and now can't hear anyone when making a call. If put speaker on then I can hear! Any advice?
I just tried to help another guy in another discussin with similar problems.
Headset input is not working
I would suggest a iPhone restore and fresh load from Backup... but it is no guarantee.

I have a sign of a little lock on the top of my iPhone 4 screen and therefore I am not able to hear from the people who call me unless that I switch the speaker on. What should I do
The little lock has nothing to do with speaker volume. It means you have locked the rotation on your iPhone.
Have you tried using the volume control on the side of the iPhone to raise the volume when someone calls? -
I cannot hear the caller on my iphone until I turn on the speaker
I cannot hear the caller on my iphone 4 until I turn on the speaker. They seem to be able to hear me but I cannot hear them until I manually turn on the speaker
Hi, I had the same problem until this morning when I was advised by the technician at the Apple store to plug the phone into my computer, thus opening itunes, which will back up my phone settings. Then click on my phone so that I get the option of "check for updates" or "restore". Click on restore, which removes the software from the iphone, and then reinstalls it. Sync all your apps, and tunes back and then try it. It worked for me so good luck.

I can't hear my phone calls unless I put it on speaker. Tried cleaning by blowing on earpiece and headphone jack and pushing near front camera and earpiece speaker...no luck. HELP!
If you've tried everything mentioned you probably have a failed earpiece. One option is to get a BlueTooth headset and use it for all calls. It will be cheaper than the $199 out-of-warranty replacement price from Apple (if it's still in warranty or AppleCare it will be free). Good BT headsets can be had for around $40. And it will hold you over until the Next New Thing from Apple is available

The screen is black . i can.t get it to respond.Power + home soft reset didnt work. Itunes could detect any sync apps. I used my home phone to call my iphone and on my home phone i can hear the calling tone. But my iphone didn't ring/screen did not light up. Its a iphone 4. Any ideas how to fix this?
If the basics (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) don't work, you'll need to bring the phone to Apple for evaluation

When I connect my iPad2 to my tv using the AV adapter I can hear sound for everything else except movies. I can hear tv episodes, music, YouTube videos, etc. anyone have an idea of how to fix this issue? Thank you for your help in advance.
Just connect the new iPod to your computer and setup the iPod via iTunes (instead of via wifi).
If you want to copy all the infor from an old iPod touch to the inew iPod see:

How can I turn off the beep my incoming callers hear when my phone is busy?
How can I turn off the beep my incoming callers hear when my phone is busy?
I appreciate your concern! This feature is unable to be removed. The only way an incoming caller would not hear this particular beep is if a ringback tone is active on the line.
