I can't speak into my iPhone 3G. Others can hear me, and I can hear music when I want, but I just can't speak into it. I was recording a video a few days ago and
I couldn't hear the video, but the image was still on the screen. A while back I tried to unscrew the bottom of my iPhone so I could see the lock button because it wasn't working. Is that maybe the issue?

i was wondering if it is possible, this person i believe uses a Android or Iphone, for the camera to be turned off for video chat? I can never see the other person but they can see me - and i can see myself during the video chat. My video which they see i also see takes up the whole screen. You have to enable it in SKYPE. Open up Sykpe click on tools then select options . When that windows opens select video settings. Then you well see select webcam click on White box select your web cam choices. Windos 7 HP computers it is called HP web camra filter. I just close out the filter stuff if I am not using it during chat session. Some HP computers call it cybrlink web cam. If your web cam isn't listed yet the web cam still works in other applications your Skype software might be corrupted. Try to isolate the issue. Use earphone and if the issue still happens then it might be the phone issue.
- If earphone works fine then it may be the mic on the iPhone. Try cleaning the debris on the iPhone. Finally a restore of the device and try to set it as a new device. Tha will isolate if it is a software or hardware issue.
- You can take the phone to Apple store once you have tried all this.

Try the holding of the power button and home button (10secounds) while the device is connected to a computer. Sometimes this seems to work. The device might also be stuck in some kind of recovery loop. There is a program which can fix this called TinyUmbrella. Do a google search for it. The software is free and once downloaded there is a button that once your device is connected says kick from recovery

After last OS update, my iPhone 4 is dropping more calls or I can hear the other person but they can't hear me

My signal (ATT) on my iPhone 4 seems to have gotten worse since the last OS update. In addition, frequently during a conversation, we can initially hear one another then they stop hearing me speak although I can hear them perfectly clear. Is this happening to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to correct. The problem seems to be getting considerably worse.

I'm guessing it's a hardware problem. Your best option is to go to an Apple Store as soon as you can to try and sort this all out. While you're waiting to go visit an Apple Store, however, I'd imagine you still want to use your phone. To circumvent your hardware button problems, try enabling Assistive Touch by going to Settings>General>Accesibility>Assistive Touch. You'll see a small box appear on your screen. Tapping it will bring up several options for you to choose from, like the home button. Clicking the "Device" option will give you several options for controlling your phone that you would normally use hardware buttons for (i.e. volume, lock your phone, etc.) Hope this helps and good luck!

Once the connection is made you should automatically see the other person full screen, with a small inset picture of yourself. Normally you only see yourself full screen after you initiate the call prior to the other person accepting it. Are you both connected to wi-fi and are you initiating the call by tapping the FaceTime button on the other person's contact?

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

I bought this iphone 3gs off an app. I just want to use it as an ipod. it is sim locked (with two attempts left) and the lock button doesn't work at all. What can I do? I just want to use it as an ipod.
I have also tried everything. I took the sim card out and put it back in again. And I have also left it out. And I have tried connecting it to itunes but I need to unlock. (some of these were suggested by the seller)

My guess - and this is completely a guess - is that the SIM in that phone has a PIN that was added to it by the previous owner. Whomever you bought it from didn't bother to check for this (or didn't care) before they got it from the previous owner.
You need to get a new AT&T SIM for that phone - you could even borrow one from a friend if they have one that will fit the phone. You would only need the SIM to activate it.
There is no way to activate an iPhone without a SIM in it, even if you don't plan to use it as anything other than an iPod.

The iPhone like all iDevices is not a storage device, it is merely a mirror of the content in the library to which it is synced.
If you wish to sync to a new computer, the first step is to copy or move the iTunes media library from the old computer to the new computer. This can be done via the network or by using an external hard drive.
Once the library has been moved, simply sync to the new computer.
