TS1702 checking for updated apps in itunes

when I had to restore OS lion, my apps files were deleted from itunes. some were restored when I synced my iphone and ipad to itunes, but many were not.
does itunes check for app updates based on what's in its library or what shows as downloaded in the itunes store?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

  • "Check for Updates" button in iTunes not working

    Hi there,
Forgive this post if it is a repeat - I searched and didn't see this exact problem though (but perhaps it's a common one at any rate).
I have a lot of apps on my "Applications" page, and until recently, iTunes did a great job of allowing me to quickly check and then download all of my updates (usually on a daily basis) from that page. Now, when I click the "Check for Updates" button at the bottom of the window it says I have none - even though my App Store icon confirms for me that I indeed have several updates ready to roll.
I have de-authorized, re-authorized, restarted (computer and iPhone), re-logged into my account, and even deleted some and re-downloaded some of the applications.
Does anyone know what might be happening?
    Thanks in advance,
    Max Izod

you may need to uninstall and reinstall itunes. reauthorize the account after doing so.

Thanks AnaMusic. I didn't realise that I needed OS X Lion installed on my MacBook Pro. Bought it and installed and the icon is now there Now I'm faced with having to familiarise myself with the new features of OsX Lion and it is truly overwhelming. A step-by-step approach is called for I suppose. Thanks so much for your help

  • "Check for Updates" vs Download iTunes from web

    Hello collective wisdom!
I think my question should be easy to answer. I'm helping my mom fix an issue with her computer in CA, but I'm in SD so there's only so much I can do.
She's trying to install some books on her iPad and iPhone via iTunes on her PC. She has iTunes 8, but needs a more recent version. When she runs "Check for Updates" in iTunes, she gets the error that the iTunes server could not be contacted. I have already trouble shooted this error, but we cannot fix it because she does not know her admin password. My dad purchased the computer for her at Best Buy, which is two hours from where they live, and she doesn't want to pay $30 to have them fix it anyway. (I think the computer is running Win7, but it may be Vista.)
I could figure this out if I were there, but I probably won't be back in CA for at least a couple years. My question is simple... Will installing iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ over her existing install fix the problem? If yes, will her music library be intact on the new install?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Paul

Hmm, the folder C:\Users\Public\Desktop should already exist, though if you look for it then you will probably see C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop in the same way that Documents in one profile can be shown as Steve's Documents in another.
Locate the Public Desktop folder, right-click and select Properties, select the Security tab, tap the Edit button and grant Everyone and SYSTEM full control. Use the Add button if needed to add the Everyone or SYSTEM entries, click OK when done.
    Try installing again.

  • Itunes "check for updates" feature not working?

my friend has itunes 7.0 and when he clicks on "check for updates" inside the itune program it says:
“This version of iTunes (7.0) is the current version.”
I thought the new version of itunes is 7.0.1.8? If so, why isn't the "check for updates" feature downloading the newer version? Can apple please fix this problem because users shouldn't have to download the new update manually and alot of users don't know there is a newer version because they all use the "check for updates" feature.
    thanks

Running iTunes 11 on Mac OS 10.6.8. I manually sync my apps/songs/etc.
I atttempted to updates apps using ITunes. The "Check for Updates" at bottom left was non-responsive. I tried:
    • Disconnecting the phone (2x), then reconnecting to iTunes
    • Relaunching iTunes (2x)
    • Reverting back to the previous version (ugh - don't try it)
Googling the problem lead me to many MacRumors and Apple forum threads.
Went to work, tried again tonight and success! The only thing I can attribute the sudden functionality of updating via iTunes is from REBOOTING my G5. BTW, I am using a wired mouse.
Feeling a little silly that I didn't try that earlier.

  • Itunes takes forever to check for updates

I was trying to check for updates for my iTunes. I was going to upgrade it to 9.2. The update check took too long until the software stopped responding. Everytime i check for updates and new apps, it hangs and I have to close iTunes. My brother suggested reinstalling iTunes and I did. But the same thing happens, I tried to check for updates on my itunes again (when i tried the update check on my brother's iTunes, a pop up instantly appeared saying it was already updated or something like that), but the same thing happens.. takes too long to check and stops responding. help please

is your Apple Software Update currently working properly?
To check, go "Start > All programs > Apple Software Update". Does ASU launch, or do you get an error message?

Come on Apple - sort this out

Do you have any information about iTunes and iPhone software versions, whether you're running Microsoft'Anything' or Apple'Anything' as your operating system, your hardware platform and USB version, to name but a few missing details?
Come on now: "Come on Apple - sort this out!!!" might be on a wish-list somewhere, but which version 'crystal-ball' do you suggest is used to assist?
It is very very annoying, you're right, all round, but it is much easier to provide assistance and helpful suggestions if the combinations surrounding one specific area of the Universe that is affected can be minimised.....

Any idea how to solve this if I haven't activated the 3GS service? I've been doing fine on wireless only.

Same problem here. After upgrading to iOS 4.2.1 a couple of weeks ago I'm getting the same error as the OP in the first post. I've never activated the 3G service.
I tried turning the cellular service on and checking for updates, pulled and replaced the SIM card, rebooted, nothing helps. I'm still getting the error when I click on the "Check for Update" button in iTunes (v10.1) when my iPad 64GB 3G is connected to my iMac. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

  • HT4972 I'm trying to update my iphone 3G to ios5 - however in Itunes when I 'check for updates' it is advising me that I have the latest version (4.2.1). Hence I can't update and now I can't run a few of the apps I previously used. Help!

Following a backup and restore of my iphone 3g I have lost the use of a number of apps - this seems to be as they need ios5 or later to support them and I only have 4.2.1
When I check for updates via itunes I am advised that I have the latest version - but clearly I don't.
Any help gratefully received on how I can upgrade to ios5
    Yally

Sadly, the iPhone 3G can not be upgraded beyond iOS 4.2.1.

  • ITunes "Check for updates" don't work for two specific app

I have iPhone 4S, and iTunes at Windows 7 PC. Clean install.
I've bought an GPS navigation app, Turkey Navigation iGO Primo app, which was free at first release day. My problem is, when I click the button "Check for updates" at iTunes(PC), it don't show me any updates, but when I go to app's(iGO Primo) iTunes page, I see that new version released, and iTunes price button says "Update". So I can manually update the app, but iTunes can't automatically finds it. This symptom only occurs for two apps iGO Primo app and Google Search app.
A friend of mine also bought the Primo app at same time as me, and she has no problem, iTunes can find updates automatically.
I can delete the app from iTunes and download again, but no luck, no fix.
Developer(NNG) and Apple technical support can't help me a bit.
Maybe there is other apps at my library that has this problem, I don't check every app's page manually if an update released.
    Do you have any solutions?

    From the Store menu, select
              Check for Unfinished Downloads...

  • Updating apps in iTunes 11.0.3 "check for updates" missing?

Hi, I've just updated to 11.03 and when I look at the apps listing I know longer have a "check for updates" button. Does anyone know where its gone?
Sorry found it now - new menu item.
    Duh.

Open iTunes. Your music library should be front and center, with the "iTunes Store" button in the upper-right and the "Music" button in the upper-left. Click on that Music button in the upper-left, and select "Apps" from the drop-down menu. Now along the center of the top area should be six options, "All", "iPhone/iPod touch", "iPad", "iPod Games", "List" and "Updates". Click on Updates. From here you can either click the "Update All Apps" button that finally appears in the lower-right corner, or click on any app individually for the option to manually update just that app.
The "Check For Available Downloads..." option you can select from the "Store" menubar item serves a different purpose entirely; while I've used it for downloading music I had already purchased but been unable to initially download, it does nothing for downloading new updates to apps already in my iTunes App library.
