Why don't you use the fully-qualified-domain-name (FQDN) of your GW and perform a re-direct to this ?
This should be known (and everytime the same), addtionally you won't have any problems if there's any load balancer in between or in fron of the GWs.
Secondly you'll have problems to get the IP -address if there's any proxy server involved.

Just when it gets about finished downloadIng, the app restarts the download, and this process keeps going and going. I did everything that apple suggested, but nothing works. I haven't heard back from Ludia, the company I purchased this $4.99 app from. Any advice would be helpful at this point. Please help me.

Edit > Preferences > Store > Automatic Downloads. Disable those you don't want.
You'll probably still get a count of available updates unless you first update those that are outstanding now (iTunes would otherwise remember the total) and then remove the apps from your iTunes library.
Personally I prefer to keep a complete copy of my media and apps, and a backup as well. Should you need to restore your device it will be much quicker to do so from locally held data than over a Wi-Fi connection. There is also the small risk that an app you like is subsequently removed from the store and thus no longer available to you when the time comes.

You can select the exact content that you want to sync each and every time that you sync if you want to do so. You can also turn off auto sync so that iTunes does not automatically sync without you having the opportunity to select what you want.
Connect the iPad (or the iPhone) to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Apps Tab on the right.
Only click on apps that you want to sync. Uncheck the apps that you do not want to sync.
Click on the Sync Apps Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes

It is recommended that most users not keep auto syncing turned off all of the time so that you do not forget to backup your device. I do not subscribe to that belief myself. Besides I have seen way too many users that claim to sync with iTunes or that use iCloud and they don't have a clue about what a backup is, where they can find it or what to do with it - if they even have one. Too many users get caught in the "This device has not been backed up with iCloud for three weeks message" because they don't have the sense to backup on a regular basis.

Go to itunes --> on top nav, select app store --> Look for "purchased" on the right rail menu under APP STORE QUICK LINKS. That will take you to the "Purchased" page. You can search by "All" or by "Not on This Computer" (I looked something up on my comptuer... so I can also search what applications were downloaded from iPhone, another computer or iPad). The dates and prices of the apps are NOT listed there. Hope that helps.

to the right by search library theres an arrow there click on it : it will show you what it is downloading , from there you can pause and select all and delete them but still will continue to download them if you tell itunes to check for downloads. that download engien is crazy i tell yeah.
no matter what we do it will still download them trust me i tryed everything and i also went to icloud to see if it was there but to what i see is that there is no apps there this is some crazy itune program that needs to remade.

I have the ipod touch 5th generation. I tried to remove the magazine from the newsstand by pressing and holding the magazine until it wiggled but no delete option appeared (that small little "x" in the upper corner). After some rather frustrating searches that revealed nothing I plugged my ipod into my computer via USB and opened itunes. From there i clicked on the ipod button at the top right under the search option which opened the ipod contents. Click on Apps and you can remove magazines from here. Hope this helps!
