TS1702 ipad not backed up

just had new ipad 4 for a week and got message come up ipad not backed up stating this ipad hasn't been backed up plug in and lock and connect to wifi but when i press the ok button not responding plugged in computer but just locked the ipad cant us!! is it faulty??? help please

A reset should help: Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons and await restart.

I didn't think the first page would help me because I could still add, delete and edit my bookmarks, then restart the browser and it would've saved the changes. Also, I didn't think the second page would help me because my browser didn't have any of the symptoms listed. The problem I had wasn't with adding, deleting, or editing the bookmarks. I simply couldn't organize my bookmarks in a certain folder because the bookmarks would jump around when I tried to move them. However, I looked down the second link's page and found a section titled "Problems limited to bookmarks". I did what the first sentence told me to and it allowed me to FINALLY organize that folder!

Thanks to everyone who responded and related subject helped. Holding the home button and power button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds does unlock the screen. I can now use my ipad again. However, a futher problem has arisen since updating to IOS6 and activating icloud at same time, Although not sure if its related. The problem is that when connected to my PC the itunes message appears 'Cannot read ipad'. It instructs you to restore but keeps timing out after about 1 hour. This maybe internet issue but can't understand why itunes cannot read my ipad. May need to completely erase all content & reset. Or any other suggestions why this has happened?

IiPad says 'iPad not backed up' but won't let me do anything???? It's new I set it up then wrapped it for my dad but when switched on yest the message came up and won't allow me to do anything????

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If that work you can then do a backup (Settings > iCloud)

my ipad mini shows a command of ipad not backed up, with a highlighted area with ok in it. I press the ok but it does not get rid of the command it has locked the screen, does any one know how to resolve this please?
