TS1702 Ways in which Podcast App is broken

I attempt to download podcasts at home or work when I am at a known WiFi hotspot location.  I have cellular downloading of podcasts turned off to preserve my precious data limits.  Under iOS6 I had a smart playlist under my ITunes app that worked flawlessly - I was able to synch at home, walk to my car with earbuds, have it switch seamlessly to my car speakers via bluetooth, have the current podcast information stream to the display of my car, be able to skip podcasts selectively, and otherwise leave my phone in my pocket and not worry about it.
I was forced over to the <insert string of bad word here> podcast app with the upgrade to iOS 7.  I have the most recent versions of iOS7 and the Podcast app.  I found the "Most Recent" 'station' and am now daily considering getting a Droid.
The Podcast app gets hung *all* the time when it's either trying to download stuff when I'm no longer in WiFi range or it's telling me that it can't download a podcast.  It's quite frustrating - when I am listening to a podcast, I want the app to prioritize playing an available podcast, the rest can wait.
The Podcast app wants to tell me that it can't download a podcast when I'm not in range of a WiFi hotspot and I've told it not to use Cellular data.  I *KNOW* that it can't download something new and I already told the stupid app not to download, why does the app want me to fiddle with it when I'm not in a WiFi zone?  Honestly, do you *WANT* me to get into a wreck while I'm driving?  Just skip to the next playable podcast!!!!!
When I am listening to podcasts on my ear buds and get into my car, it doesn't automatically switch over to the car like the Music app which does this seamlessly.  I've taken to stopping the podcast, then booting my car.  Yeah, it's a small thing, but the Music app can do it.
The Bluetooth Metadata displayed on my car only matches the first podcast, not any subsequent.  (The Music app changes the metadata displayed as the songs being played change.)
The 'Most Recent' playlist seems to pick the most recent podcast and play all of *IT* instead of picking on a per-podcast.  (I.E. If I have a podcast with 2 shows, one from today, the other from yesterday, it plays both *THEN* moves on instead of leaving the second for the appropriate order by date.)
I'd like to figure out how to make the podcast app automatically download podcasts when it's in a WiFi zone without me having to manually drag the screen down.  But this is a minor issue compared to dealing with the buggy software that is driver hostile.

This is related to this thread which has a workaround. Podcast App Crashing

  • Way to get Podcasts app to take manually added podcasts without syncing?

    Hi guys,
I listen to a lot of podcasts and I've been having all sorts of problems using the Podcasts app, it's a bit of a mess.
I don't want to even try to continue having it automatically sync with my library, this seems to create problems. I put some episodes on there, they seem to be there one day then the next day they're in the list but suddenly need to be streamed even though I added them and have not told the app to delete them.
Other times, even though I only added, say, 10 out of 100 podcasts for one show, I go into the list and all 100 show up with the little cloud symbol next to the 90 I didn't want. Then I have to go scrolling through to pick out the ones I actually intended to listen to. Is there somewhere to turn off showing un-downloaded episodes?
Wanting to re-listen to old episodes is a nightmare. I add them, they disappear everytime I sync the phone overall, even though I repeatedly uncheck 'sync podcasts'. Also, if I uncheck 'sync podcasts' after adding some and then sync - it clears every podcast off the phone, as if that's what I wanted.
Even after I uncheck 'sync podcasts', manually adding podcasts automatically causes podcast syncing to turn on. Why would Apple assume that's what I want if I'm manually adding podcasts. Why can't I just manually add the ones I want? That seems to be the only possible solution to all the syncing nightmares above and yet iTunes/the app won't allow it to happen.
Am I doing something horribly wrong or is this just a terrible app? I have looked into alternatives but none of them will sync with my itunes library. And don't even get me started on how iTunes itself handles podcasts now!

My iPod is a 3d gen nano so doesn't have independent downloading capabilities.

  • Since upgrading my phone to 6.0.1, I'm using way too much data. I believe it's the podcast app that's not loading shows while I'm connected to wifi. I have the 3g turned off for podcasts??? also after a phone call or an alert it starts playing a podcast?

I've also had the same issues, after upgrading to IOS 6.0, the apps in my iPhone 4 were crashing and the battery life run out very fast.
The only solution worked for me was to remove all mail accounts (Exchange/Gmail) from my iPhone (in settings) and then add them back.
The crashing were stopped! also the battery was back to normal.
I found the solution by first looking at the crash logs (in IOS 6). you can find them at Settings -> General -> About (at the bottom of the About menu you will find the option that opens the logs).
There i saw many logs about Low Memory crash. 99% of the logs were pointed that the largest process (use the most memory) during the crashes is "dataaccessd".
I search in the web and found that this process is a deamon process that reponsible the Mail accounts (like Exchange/Gmail) and contancts list.
I've installed the app "System Status - activity monitor" which shows important system info like CPU usage, Memory usage and running processes.
Before apply my solution (deleting the mail accounts) i saw that the CPU usage was very high which consume the battery very fast. Also i saw that the memory (RAM) was run out.. which probably what cause the crashing..
After deleting the mail accounts (at Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars) i check again with the System Status app, and saw that the memory and CPU were back to normal.
Adding the mail accounts back, still everything work ok
Hope this solution will help you too,
    Enjoy!

  • Any way to side load podcasts from iTunes to Podcast App?

I have not been able to figure out how to side-load podcasts from iTunes to the podcast app iPhone or iPad.  On my iPad, I watch HD podcasts.  They take FOREVER to download over wi-fi (and I have 6Mbs down, which isn't all that bad).  The podcasts are in my Videos app.  I am not sure why the podcast app doesn't pull from the ones already under the Videos app.  Anyone figure this out?

Ah-HA!  I knew there had to be a way!
Not quite the same in 10.6, but close enough to find it:
    It's iTunes>apps, not iTunes>iPhone>apps.  I didn't realize there were different windows.
Not double-click, but control-click.  Close enough.
Easy-Peasy, now that you showed me how.
    Thanks, Barry.

  • In the current "Podcast" app is there a way to play ALL episodes of ALL podcasts chronologically from oldest to newest like there was in the "Unplayed Episodes" list of the original "Podcast" app?

In the original version of the Podcasts app there was an "Unplayed Episodes" list that listed ALL the episodes of ALL the podcasts I had loaded on to my device, and I could listen to them in chronological order from oldest to newest.
In the new Podcasts update I see a list called "All Unplayed" but when I select a podcast from there it plays all the episode of JUST THAT podcast, without switching between podcasts to whatever episode on my device is chronologically next.
Is there a way to listen to my podcasts chronologically across Podcast series and I'm just missing it or did Apple screw the pooch on this one?

Please, please, please... I wonder if the solution of deleting the Podcast App and using the Music App again would work.  My favorite sports radio station splits up their podcasts by DJ (logical), but I want to listen to all podcasts from one day from all DJs.  No longer automatic :(
Apple developers, if you read this please add this feature - you had it in Music App.

  • In the Podcasts app, is there any way to remove the list of recent podcasts that can be downloaded?

    Hi there,
I'm wondering whether there's any way to remove all those recent podcasts (either unplayed or only partially played) listed as downloadable from the Podcasts app on the iPhone. If I'd wanted all these additional episodes on the phone, I would have put them there. I don't want them there, yet the app insists upon larding up my podcast lists with these useless episodes. Nor do I want to mark them all as "played." There's a reason some of them are only partially played and others not at all. I prefer to keep them marked that way in my master list. But I do not want them on the iPhone.
I've tried searching online, but am not coming up with a solution. Do I have to go to some third-party app to have cleaner, tidier, and smaller lists? When I intend to carry around only three or four episodes for a given podcast, it is really REALLY annoying to have to pick through a list of forty-some-odd offerings to find the ones I want.
I sure am hoping some techie-inclined soul has a solution for me.

we are working on server to server APIs that will allow you to fetch data (items) from node.
when that is available you'll be able to get the user list from the UserManager node.

  • Is there a way to block the inappropriate content in the podcasts app?

    Hello,
I am a husband, father and pastor and do a lot of podcast listening throughout the week, but was recently very disappointed to find some very adult content in the podcasts app under "top stations," with seemingly no way to block or monitor podcast content. I would love to not have those things in my face and for them to not be available to my young child to find, either.
Is there anything I can do to block the "top stations" functionality, or to block certain station-groups? Or to block any content at all in the podcasts app? There doesn't seem to be a way that I can see.
    Thanks
    Nick

In your project's build settings there is an OSACompile - Build Options section where you can select the option to Save as Execute-Only.  The run-only script isn't encrypted, but I haven't heard of anyone taking the time to decompile one.  Note that even though the script is no longer easily readable, text strings and variable/method names can still be seen.

  • Is there a way to revert to the previous version of the podcast app?

I really hate the new podcast app version 1.2.1. There has to be a way to revert to the previous version. Don't know why Apple doesn't offer it's users the option of staying with the version that we prefer. We're asked to update without knowing if we'll like the new version. No trial period - just take a chance. I did, and I regret it. I will never click on an update again. I went from loving Apple to hating them overnight.
There must be a work-around somewhere. Please help if you can.

Thanks for the response. Not sure if it's backed up, and not sure how to locate if it is. I downloaded the update directly onto ipod touch - and when I re-synched apps from itunes library to try to install previous ver.  it changed to the new podcast ver. 1.2.1. Several moths ago I reverted to an older v. of itunes library(10.0?) through a folder called "previous itunes libraries" in my itunes folder - but I don't remember what I did - someone instructed me. Any chance of that containing older podcast v?
Unfortunately I'm not too tech savvy

  • I bought a mic for my ipod touch 2nd gen and the mic works yet when its plugged in the speakers dont work, meaning i cant hear, so skype and other similar apps are un-useable, is there a way in which the mic and speakers will both work together?

I bought a mic for my ipod touch 2nd gen and the mic works yet when its plugged in the speakers dont work, meaning i cant hear, so skype and other similar apps are un-useable, is there a way in which the mic and speakers will both work together?

Looking at the details for this mic, it appears that the app has to have the option to use the internal specak when a mic is plugged into the headphone jack. Specifically:
NOTE: When MityMic is plugged into your iPod/iPhone you won’t be able to use the onboard speaker for sound output. You must remove the MityMic then play back your recordings. (The Skype app has an option to enable the onboard speaker even when the mic is plugged in, so you could use MityMic for placing Skype calls. However most other apps do not have this function.)

  • After downloading ios6 my battery life doesn't even last one day! Is this planned by apple so our phones will work so poorly we'll have to upgrade? am running the podcast app on 3gs. used to work great in music. how do I go back to the way it was?

After downloading the ios6, battery life doesn't even last a day on my 3gs Iphone. Used to download podcasts to music and now have to use the pos Podcast app.It doesn't download the podcasts half the time  IOs 6 *****!  Are you listening Apple? how do I at least make changes so my battery doesn't run out after 7 hrs.

  • TS1702 Podcasts App lost and will not restore or re-install. iOs 6.1.6

Iphone 3gs updated with iOs 6.1.6 software. Podcasts App lost when restored from backup and will not re-install from iTunes.  How do I fix it?

That's because the latest Podcast App is only for iOS 7. You have to go to AppStore and re-install a version compatible with 6.1.3

  • Is there any way to keep streaming the audio portion of a video podcast when I leave the Podcast app?

If I leave the Podcast app while playing an audio podcast, I can still hear the audio. However, if I leave a video podcast to do something else like answer emails, the audio portion doesn't keep playing. This means that if I have a video podcast going, I can't do anything else with my iPad while it's playing. I multitask all the time while playing my podcasts and then come back to the video if it sounds like there is something interesting to see. This one glitch unfortunately makes the Podcast app unusable for me. I'll keep using the Downcast app for a while longer because of this but if Apple fixes this problem, I'll be back since the rest of the app looks great.

Thanks Kiwi. It doesn't make sense to me though, as that would seem to be only a simple change in the operating system, not a hardware 'necessity'.

  • HT5295 Is there any way to not use the Podcast App and still listen to podcasts? This app is a substantial downgrade to listening through the music player.

The Podcast App is terrible. It can't seem to keep track to what has or has not been listened to, it randomly restarts after pauses. I never had to use the App until this last upgrade and now I'm forced to. I would like to go back to listening to podcasts through the music player. Is that possible?

  • HT5295 How do I dump the Podcast app?

Or more specifically, how do I return to managing and playing podcasts on my phone as I did before the Podcasts app was introduced (using iTunes and the Music app)?
I've avoided using this new system until it received at least a point release, hoping this would allow me to avoid the early kinks in a new system.  Last week I downloaded and installed the Podcast app, version 1.2.1.  However, I have found even this version to not work by any definition.  (I'll spare everyone my gripes, but the short version is that the Podcasts app simply prevents me from accessing or playing podcasts.)  How do I return my system so I can use iTunes and my iPhone as I did before this app?
    Many thanks to all!!

Thank you Chris, but you misunderstand my problem; I have no interest in "fixing" how the Podcasts app operates.  This is because, not to put too fine a point on it, this app has too many issues to fix.  The Podcasts app completely fails on my phone in every definable respect: it won't access episodes already downloaded on iTunes, won't see my "paid for" subscriptions, says there's no wifi network when the phone and  other apps can see it, and deletes already downloaded content (despite settings to the contrary).  And that's just the beginning of my "list of broken".  These aren't inconvenient issues, learning to manage content differently or changing the settings... this app is ignoring iTunes content, ignoring its own settings and deleting what little content it chooses to download.  Troubleshooting the problems at this point would take far longer than simply returning to the way that definitely worked last Friday.  If I showed you my phone and how the app is operating, you would agree that this is not working at all, and not worth troubleshooting; this is take-off-and-nuke-the-entire-site-from-orbit broken.
As for the feeback link, I appreciate it, but it doesn't really help. I've been there a few times already, but if you look you'll notice there's no way to provide feeback for the actual problem: the Podcasts app.  There are eight other Apple IOS apps available for feedback, but Apple seems uninterseted in hearing feedback for Podcasts. ;-)
All I am trying to do is return my (audio only) podcasts to being managed in iTunes and played back in the "Podcasts" tab on the Music app, which is exactly as it worked until last week (when I installed the Podcasts app).  How can I return my system to this state, how everything worked?  I will need access to my podcasts next week when I have a long drive, and installing this app has only succeeded in preventing me from listening to my podcasts.
