TS1717 iTunes not starting

Hello all,
I'm at my wits end here. Whenever I try starting itunes it appears briefly on the process list (but not the application list).
I'm on Windows 7 64-bit.
iTunes was working fine a couple weeks ago. I don't need to use it much.
Same result with iTunes safe mode.
Similar result with a new user account. Instead of failing silently it threw an error:

No change after uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials
Tried windows safe mode, iTunes started. hmmmmm
Tried diagnostic startup in msconfig, back to iTunes not starting.
Tried windows safe mode with networking, iTunes doesn't start.
Tried deleting iTunes config files, the files weren't present.
Completly uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and re-installed, appeared to install fine but still no start
No new drivers on manfacturers website
Repair QuickTime, still no iTunes start.
Uninstall and re-install with older version of iTunes, still no start. I only tried older versions of iTunes 11 though. Didn't try 10.
Uninstall and re-install with Security Essentials and UAC disabled, still no dice.

  • TS1717 iTunes not starting after power fail and reinstall

I'm using a Samsung NP700 series laptop, with a dodgy battery, running Windows 7.
I was doing some work when the power failed and my battery failed soon after. When power was restored the system ran CHDISK during boot up and found several problems. I then started getting Win32 exceptions from CFNetwork.dll during start up and whenever I tried to start iTunes.
I followed the advice in the support pages and ended up doing a complete clean and reinstall. After this the exception had gone but iTunes failed to start. I got nothing, double click the icon nothing, open iTunes from the start menu, nothing. No reports, no errors it just failed to do anything.
I had installed the 64 bit version but it wanted to install in 'program files (X86)'. Was this the problem?
In desperation I ran iTunes using 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' that suggested XP SP2 mode and it worked. iTunes complained about being in compatibility but it ran.
Switching off compatibility mode reverts back to iTunes not bothering to start.
Oddly enough iTunes remembers that I was using an external drive for my library, I had expected to have to set that up again after the clean uninstall.
Still I am working, iTunes is not happy but I am working. In the next few days I hope to upgrade to Windows 8 - only God knows what problems that will cause.

Okay, things have gone from bad to worse. I checked the event log again after another failure to start and found that iTunes hadn't started because of an exception thrown by AUDIOSES.DLL. Sfc failed to fix it so I tried a restore to an earlier date.
That's when things went badly wrong. After the restore my system refused to boot. Even the recovery disk failed. Fortunately I was preparing to upgrade my system to Windows 8 and already had the upgrade disk.
One clean upgrade to Windows 8 later and my computer is working again. All I have to do is install all my software again. This is not a big problem as I like to do this every so often to clear out the junk. Haven't got around to iTunes yet (still doing BIOS, drivers and firewall etc first). Hopefully I will be all back to normal in a couple of days. Good job that I am retired.

  • ITunes not Starting when iPhone connected

I just got an iPhone 3G and installed iTunes 9.0.
When I connect my iPhone to sync, iTunes does not start. I get the box:
    Camera connected
Select the program to launch for this actiona
    Canon CameraWindow
    Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard
If I manually start iTunes, I can see my iPhone but no Music or Movie subfolders under the device. And I can't drag any music from my library to the iPhone.
Is there a conflict with my camera software or should it just work this way? I tried to uninstall all camera software but without success.
I have gotten some music on the iPhone from syncing, but not all that I want.
    Thanks for the help.
    Dave

Reinstall iTunes 9. If that doesn't work, restart AMDS:

  • ITunes not starting up after Yosemite update

    Hi Community,
Just updated my MacBook (13", Aluminum, late 2008) to Yosemite.
Having done this iTunes is not starting up any more. Also downloading and a second time updating iTunes 12.01.26 didn't help.
Can anyone help me with this ?

    ok THANKS so much!!
    it now works!!
First I removed iTunes.app from my system using these instructions: http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/uninstall-itunes/
Next I opened the App Store and it showed me iTunes under "Updates".
I reinstalled iTunes via the App Store and now I can launch iTunes as expected.
Because I didn't delete the iTunes folder inside my user's folder, all my content remained.
    thanks  to you :

  • Why will iTunes not start after installing latest updates on a windows computer?

I got the usual notification that an update for iTunes on a windows 7 computer was available and told it to install
It went through the motions and seemed to install,. but when I tried to open iTunes on completion I got the message below.
I subsequently removed iTunes and reinstalled after manually removing various iTunes folders, then reinstalled iTunes with the same result of the error message so I removed iTunes again and installed an older version of iTunes which worked fine until yesterday I was notified of an update for the iCloud, which I installed and am back at square one with the same error message.
I have tried to send an e-mail to Apple but they make it virtually impossible, so I would appreciate any advice anyone can give. I cannot be bothered with all this mucking avbout every time there is an upgrade
    Thanks, Mactoshb

Hi, I carried out the advice and after reloading, Itunes is starting OK but I could not delete most of the files and folders mentione,d constantly getting the message that they were open in some unspecified program and to close it to continue, problem was I had no idea what the program was that they were open in.
However I have Ashampoo uninstaller installed and it identified various programs associated with Apple and after uninstalling them I reinstalled iTunes and it is working fine now.
Question, am I going to get this cobblers every time Apple offer an upgrade?????
Anyway thanks for your help and hopefully this posting will help others, as I doubt I am unique and others will have the same problem, Time perhaps Apple sorted it out

  • ITunes not starting in Win2000

I know many others have had this problem, so let me try to specify mine.
Recently, iTunes stopped working. I think it has to do with various free trial software I put on, anti-virus software. After the software got rid of the viruses, I uninstalled and deleted the files. iTunes subsequently stopped working. It pops up in Task Manager's Processes, and disappears.
I followed Dave's Cave's advice, and removed weird files that came around the same time, restarted, everything, and iTunes still refuses to stay afloat. I am using an alternative, but it *****, and I'm scared it'll kill my iPod or computer.
Win2000 doesn't have msconfig, so I need pointers. Thanks!

  • ITunes not starting when iPod is connected

New problem. Ipod nano 4th gen working fine until today (new 1 week ago). Today, when I connect with my computer (windows XP SP3), instead of auto-starting iTunes, the computer opens up a separate window for the nano (treating it as a drive).
If I start iTunes separately, it will see and sync with the iPod, but sometimes a separate window for the iPod will open up at the same time as it is synchronizing.
I tried resetting the iPod--no change. Restarted computer--no change. Restored the iPod--no change.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

That tab was already checked. In the meantime, I kept looking around.
I found a "run diagnostics" item in the iTunes help menu. I selected "iPhone/iPod connectivity tests." It showed that iTunes Helper was not installed. It linked to a web page that gave more instructions that seemed pretty drastic. So...
On a hunch, I went to the windows System Configuration Utility, went to the Startup tab. Sure enough, there is an iTunes Helper as an option to load at startup (but not selected). So I selected it, clicked OK, restarted the computer. Connected the iPod, now works perfectly (I think). Re-ran the diagnostics test, and it passes.

  • Itunes not starting on computer

I have installed and uninstalled iTunes on my PC numerous times but it will not open.  I have removed the hidden .sicd files and it still won't begin.  I have Windows XP and Google Chrome.  Getting very frustrated, please help in lay man's terms for me as l'm not very tech savy!!! Thanks

Thanks Allan - I did all those steps as well as 5 others.  I started with the diagnostics troubleshooting and tested both Iphone and Ipod after every step.  Iphone never connected to Itunes but the ipod consistently connected.  Only thing I have not done is take my Iphone to the verzion store.  Also tried to enable home sharing but noted that my Iphone may be at a lower version OS then the instructions (no "music" option under settings.) but since I can't connect I'm not sure I can upgrade the OS.

  • ITunes not starting (Win7 64bit) (iTunes 10.3.1 and iTunes 10.6)

I use to have iTunes 10.3.1, then I uninstalled it and now I tried to get it back but when I installed it again and now it won't open. No error message, NOTHING. I went to TaskManager and iTunes, I will watch under Processes and it will just cut off for NO reason.
I tried, before it cut off, setting the Priority to 'Realtime' but that didn't work, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't work either! Now under Programs to uninstall iTunes isn't even on the list, so I can't unistall and reinstall because it won't let me unistall

Install "QuickTime Player 7" It worked for me!!!!!

Have you repaired QuickTime?  If you have done so and still having problem with iTunes, you will have to uninstall everything and reinstall from scratch.
    Try following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website, Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • More problems with new itunes not starting

    Hi,
Have recently downloaded upgrade of iTunes and experienced the same problems as a few others - no response when trying to start it up. I was very happy indeed yesterday when the Quicktime standalone fix worked and my music reappeared. However, on restarting today, it's back to the square one - no response! Am I doing something wrong or is there anyone who can help?

I'm having the same problem on my desktop. I've done both a spyware search using ewido, and a virus check using symantec, neither of which helped. I tried uninstalling and re-installing and that also didn't help. Each time I try staring itunes I get the message:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I'd be happy to send the error report that I get along with this message.
Oddly enough, this problem is only occuring on one computer. I have no problem with it on my laptop. I hadn't updated itunes for a while on my desktop.
