TS1717 lost edit playlist functionality

I reinstalled itunes on my Windows 7 laptop because it had issues opening in the last couple of days. I also lost ability to edit playlist yesterday. I reinstalled software, the opening itunes issue is resolved, but still cannot edit playlists - the option is greyed out in the menu, and the radio button on the top right of the page has gone and I cannot split the screen to see and manually manipulate the playlist whilst looking at other playlists/library. Any ideas on how I can resolve this?

I'm having the same issue. Had the playlists on the top of the music list this morning, and now it's gone. Can't edit my playlists unless I drag a song from Music into the playlist name in the sidebar. Every bloody time they update the software they make things worse. Hopefully someone will give both of us an answer on how to fix this.

Copy edited playlists FROM iPod BACK TO iTunes?

The iPod Touch allows the ability to edit playlists right on the device. But at the moment, this feature is useless to me, because by default the sync treats the iTune playlist as the master copy. Why I sync, my edits are lost and all of the deleted songs are restored.
Having edited a playlist on the iPod Touch, how do I copy that edited playlist back to iTunes?
Here's why I want to do this. With 130 GB of music and an 8 GB iPod Touch obviously I sync "only selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres." As a classical music listener my "songs" tend to be large. I maintain a "Current" playlist into which I add the miscellaneous things I want to listen to. When I've listened to, say, an hour-long sympohny on my iPod Touch, I want to delete it immediately to make from the "Current" playlist and make room for new content.
I don't want to carry a little notebook with me to note down what I've listened to so I can delete that days later in iTunes. Within the "Current" playlist, I basically want to "delete after listening."

Problem with Edit IN function between LR 2.3 and PS CS3

I recently upgraded my system to a Windows Vista 64 bit Core 2 Quad with 8 GB. Lightroom now works and loads images the way it should. I do have one major concern and need any help possible.
I am using LR 2.3 in 64 bit and PS CS3 ver 10.0.1 (which is 32 bit - loads slowly but otherwise works fine). The problem I am encountering is in LR Develop / Photo / Edit In... - using any of the menu items:

"Open as Smart Object In Photoshop"
"Merge to Panorama in Photoshop"
"Merge to HDR in Photoshop"
"Open as layers in Photoshop"
Photoshop opens but no image(s) are exported and I receive the message in LR - "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS3 could not be launched."
Photoshop, however, was launched but no image exported and so I can't work on the image in PS. The appropriate TIFF image is created in LR for the first two menu items - nothing for the last three menu items.
I can create a partial work around by setting PS as an external editor, however, I can't use 4 of 5 of the menu items.
All the menu items work fine in Windows XPpro.
Any help is much appreciated.
PS I also tried the most recent Window 7 RC with exactly the same results.

I wasn't shouting - I just cut and paste the exact text and font in its original size and type as was shown in the message. Never had a thought that someone would be offended by cutting and pasting exactly what was in a message - it would appear that John Williams saw it for what it was.

Using "Edit in" function after upgrading to LR 4.4

Hello all,
I upgraded to 4.4 today and when I tried to use the "edit in" function on a photo an move to Elements 10 I got a message that LR was unable to prepare the selected file for editting and it will not be opened. I tried multiple photos and none of them work. I also went into preferences and set up Elements editor as my external program. This worked this morning before the upgrade. Any ideas?

You can make "Edit in" open any program, but it's not intuitive.
Edit menu, Preferences, External Editing tab. Then Click "Choose" button, navigate to the program you want (on a PC it will generally be a .exe file in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)"). Then tailor other settings (file format, colour space, bit depth...). Finally (don't forget this) click on the drop down next to "Preset:" and choose "Save current settings as new preset" and give it a suitable name. That will add your chosen program as a new entry in the "Edit in..." list.
As I say, it's not inuitive!

Unable to edit some functions in APEX Sql Workshop

Users are able to edit some procedures/functions in APEX SQL Work shop. ( Object Browser - functions - EDIT)
When we press edit we get cursor in the code area and can edit some procedures, But for some procedures when we click edit we don't get cursor in the code area and we are not able to edit the functions/procedures.
I am using fairfox browser.This is happening with only some. Is there any security.grants issue???

This is happening with some procedures, For others this works fine.In IE I get red block in code area.
EDIT is working for some procedures so I think may not be the browser issue.

All you can do is restore from backup if yu have one. If you backed up to iTunes make sure that autosyncing is turned off. Otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer the backup with you data might be overwritten. To turn off go to iTunes>Preferences>Devicesand check the box that says "Prevent iPods...".

I never tried this, but I'm pretty sure that with DNG files, Lightroom will ignore xmp files, even when you instruct Lightroom to "Read Metadata from File". Lightroom expects all the metadata to be in the DNG file, not in the xmp file.
Pick flags, as far as I know, are never written to xmp file; nor are they written to DNG files.
If you're going to make this transfer procedure work, you need to do it by either (a) embedding the metadata in the DNG file and send those back and forth; or (b) use RAW and xmp and then sending the xmp files back and forth (plus I guess you have to transfer the original RAW once to your editor)

Playlist function not working correctly

I have an Ipod nano 4th generation, it works fine in every way it is supposed to except when it come to the playlist function. When ever a song is selected from a list of songs or an artist/album list containing 10+ or so songs it does not add the selected son go to the on the go playlist on the ipod. Instead it adds a completely random song from the list with no logic to the song it picks. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it? I have sent one Ipod away to be fixed but the replacement appears to have the same problem. Is this an issue with all 4th generation nanos or am I just rather unfortunate? if it is a recurring issue have apple acknowledged it/done anything about it?

Because you have uploaded the files with the iWeb FTP, the folder of files created by iWeb - southcoasttv - has been uploaded along with the index.html file. Therefore the URL has the folder name in it and this is normal.
You can change it if you want but you need to use an FTP application to upload the files rather than the whole folder....

"And the beat goes on...." Lost all playlists and 8.0.2 takes away features

Upgrade to 8.0.2 has been a disaster-beware out there. Lost all playlists and have yet to get an answer on how to fix that problem so am just going to create new playlists(could be a good thing).
The latest f...up is that 8.0.2 seems to have taken away the option of creating a "smart shuffle" with songs being played less randomly-used to go to Preferences, Playback, and one of the options was a slider where you could choose how random your shuffle would be. Now there is no slider for that and I keep hearing the same songs constantly in my "random shuffle".
This is one of the reasons people are warned not to ever upgrade your itunes-because Apple ALWAYS takes away features from their customers in their latest upgrades-it's their whole corporate philosophy and mindset. They don't care for their customers-just want to appear "cool" and above everyone else(sometimes called arrogance).
So, is there a way to get the random slider back? Can I "downgrade" my itunes so I can get features that have been stolen from us by Apple?

You might have had a damaged 'iTunes Library' file.
Look in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes to see if such a file exists.
Unfortunately these damaged files cannot be repaired.
iTunes tries to restore as much information as possible, but some information is lost.
Your missing 2000 tunes probably still are on your HD.
To add these again to the library, drop the 'iTunes Music' folder (in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes) on the library window in iTunes.
iTunes will now add the missing songs to the library again.
If all goes well, your library will now list the 6200 songs.
Concerning your iPod. I think it's best to start from scratch.
If your iPod is set to automatically update, connect your iPod and immediately press and hold the Command and Option keys. Hold these keys down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Holding these keys prevents the iPod from auto updating.
Then restore your iPod and set it up the way you want.
Your 'Purchased' playlist will re-appear on your next purchase.
In the meantime you can create a Smart Playlist with the rule:
Kind - contains - protected
This playlist will then list all your purchases.
After the Purchased playlist re-appears, it will only list new purchases. If you want it to contain all purchases, drag the songs from the Smart Playlist to the 'Purchased' playlist.
Or just forget the 'Purchased' playlist and use the 'Smart Playlist' to view your purchases.

My "edit playlist" button has disappeared!

Recently, my "edit playlist" button has disappeared all together when I right-click a playlist. I do know how to manually add to a playlist, but it's inconvenient. It's there when I click File, but I can't click on it. I've tried calling Apple, but of course, they wanted to charge me. I tried uninstalling iTunes, but it didn't help. I would very much appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks.

I'm slightly confused by your problem.
The only "edit playlist" option is to Edit Smart Playlist, which allows you to change the rules for Smart Playlists, but that does not allow you to add or remove individual songs. Here's a screenshot of the different Playlist types:
To edit a Regular Playlist, simply drag the songs you want into it, or delete the songs from it.
If you highlight a regular Playlist and click on File, the Edit Playlist is greyed out and cannot be used. Frankly, I don't know why it's even shown.
If I want to delete the song Dap Walk from this Playlist, I simply right-click it and choose Delete:

DG2392322: There's a thread here on how to create and edit playlists on the player, but player based editing is not particularly easy.
You are better to use the PC, and as Jake has said Notmad Explorer offers some of the best editing features. You can still use the software that came with the player though, like MediaSource and Zen Micro Media Explorer.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
