TS1717 Rejecting blank media for Data disc

I'm trying to burn a large playlist as a data disc on a span of DVDs. After the first DVD, iTunes asks for a new blank media. Every one I insert, it rejects. They are brand new. Any help?

I just experienced this for the first time on my G4 powerbook. I was trying to mount a blank Memorex CDR 52x from a stack of 100 that I just purchased at Target. I tried one disc several times, each time getting the disk rejected after the drive would think for a bit. After seeing that, I went and got a different blank, this one in an individually wrapped plastic CD case, and also a Memorex CD-R 52x blank. For all I could tell, they have the same specs. They do have a different looking imprint on them however.
Anyways, the new disc mounted right up, no problemo. Weird. Why won't my others mount?

  • Best codec for data discs?

I want to clear a large project off my drive by burning it onto data discs. What's the best codec to use for later FCP editing?
On a slightly different topic, is there a best "universal" codec that can be edited in other popular NLE systems, e.g. Avid, Pinnacle, etc.?
    Thanks.

On a slightly different topic, is there a best "universal" codec that can be edited in other popular NLE systems, e.g. Avid, Pinnacle, etc.?< </div>
Read up on H.264, it's for distribution, not editing. The only codec that approaches platform agnosticism or universality is MPEG1 which is also useless as an image preservation or editing codec. After that, maybe plain ol' DV. There is a different flavor for each operating system but getting the files unwrapped and imported into all NLEs cannot be assumed.

  • LightScribe SuperMulti DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support is no longer able to read all lightscribe discs(Blank or Containing Data)

    Hi,
The product Name of my computer is: HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex Entertainment
    Notebook PC support
The number of my computer is : LM610EA#A2N.
Could anyone please at this splendid forum take some of their precious time
out to really reply my questions and solve my problems?
    FIRST OF ALL:
My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.
    My
sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP laptop is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop, which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to the main power supply.
However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is kept from the dust. But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is not properly properly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it after storing,I found
it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
    the computer shuts down suddenly.
    My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR  Data CD/DVD-RLightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was
unable to read them. When clicking on the optical disc drive 'double-click' while disc was inserted, then I found that disc opened as this way(NOTE: With a CD/DVD player is grayed out)
I  was told 'I suspect the culprit might be hardware and lightscribe dive might be
corrupt. Please sent it to service center to check. In addition, this thread could be as a reference:

Since no one replied to me at HP forums, although my HP laptop is one of their products, I had to post my problem here to know if my driver is corrupted and needs to be replaced or not.

I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software
which came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor  third party disc recording software.
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE.
    Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while
my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the
primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and
then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOTrecognised/Installed on
BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it opened empty(no files
at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was still shown as installed on BIOS.  However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried clicking on it on BIOS and then
clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be re-recognized. However, that
made no difference. I had to take part my computer ,and then reconnected the optical drive onto thesecondary slave IDE , and let HDD connected to the same
primary master IDE. Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs were read normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS.
What is meant with with double Layer Support.
    How much does it cost?

If you had had a look again at my first post, you would have seen that I said that I have done some things, among of which is: I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software
which came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
Yes, you're right the two threads below are concerned about one issue.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpromedia/thread/5c1aa5e8-9728-492b-a5c3-387f29ee4b6e/#d6f63628-29a3-4adf-b33f-03b33c138910

However, this thread contains more precise details and screen shots about the problem. I was not able to understand whether all lightscribs were not unable to be read or not. However, I now recognized that, and I recognized that only all LightScribe(empty
or used) discs are unable to be read. furthermore, that other thread got far too longer to be followed.
Moreover, I would like you to take some time out to answer my problem about Lighstscribe discs since I am going to purchase 'A battery, Cooling Fan' From the HP agent in Yemen, which is far away from me about 1000 Km. Thus, If my optical disc drive was corrupted
as well, then I would be requesting the 'optical disc  drive' as well from the HP along with 'Battery, Cooling Fan' .

  • Sony Support For Blank Media (CDR)

    Hi everybody,
just want to share my experience with Sony...
Recently I bought 100 pack of blank CDR media in Costco. Have not had any problems with it before. And now I threw out third part of it because none of my three writers can record on it. Tried different speeds. No success. Obviously the media is defective. Spent two hours to find out that without receipt Sony will not replace the CDRs.
What a nice policy. They make the disks, stamp their logo on it, and do not honor their warranty without receipt. It is not an expensive equipment that you would keep a receipt for.
Huge corporation. Many years on the market. And the same problems as with cheap ones. Customer satisfaction, relation, etc. Bulls**t.
The support web site sucks. Online chat support link brings you to a web page that does not exist. Phone support staff does not even know that such thing as blank media exists. No e-mail support.
BUT they are gladly display success stories and pictures from their happy customers... Unfortunately I'm not anymore.

    Hello,
    Welcome to the forums.
Here is the link to our Recording media Support page

and instructions for warranty support of the media

If you no longer have your receipt. there is good news, since you are a member of costco you have a costco membership file. bring your card to their returns desk or call them and have them look up your past purchases, they will issue you a new receipt.

  • Select multiple playlists for burning to DVD Data disc?

Hi, i need to burn about 5 playlists to a DVD Data Disc for temp backup, iTunes only is allowing me to select one playlist at a time. Of corse one play list is about 300 meg and this is totally wasteful of a DVD.
Anyone know how to burn multiple playlists to a single disc? maybe some other app can read iTunes's playlists and provide burning?
I want each playlist to create a self titled folder on disc with the tunes in each.
    Thanks

    Hi man, good idea.
Unfortunately, in iTunes, the "Burn Data Disc" button disappears when the folder is selected, in addition to the burn menu item. The burn button reappears when a single playlist inside the folder is selected, unfortunately again, more than one playlist cannot be selected.
It does appear iTunes can burn only 1 single playlist to a disc or the entire library and nothing in between which is very problematic for me right now.
Sadly the "Back Up to Disc" option in the File menu provides the following options :
"Back Up entire iTunes library and playlist"
"Back Up only iTunes Store purchases"
This appears also to be useless.
Toast 8 won't import exported iTunes XML playlists either and just burn the tracks in each playlist to a folder on the disk.
Suppose we need "iTunes Pro" to do something simple as I require :-((

  • XML Publisher Printing Blank spaces for no data

    hi All,
We are trying to build a report using XML Publisher and .RTF template.
We have dynamic fields like Wt Uom, Volume Uom, Dimensions. So when we don’t have data in these fields XML Publisher consider these data as blank and so blank spaces comes. If we have data in these fields then blank spaces will not come, as the blank spaces will be filled up the data of Wt, Volume and Dimension fields.
We want to remove the blank spaces for the items that do not have any corresponding data for the fields. Is there any way we can remove the field header and the blank spaces that are there?
    Please help
    thanks,
    Chandan

    Hi Chandan
The element is present in the XML data, but it has one space
    <?if:element_name and element_name=' ' ?> desired behavior when
the element exists but value has one space <?end if?>
    Or
what you can do is trim the data before forming XML .

  • Does the make of Blank Media I use really matter?

    Brand-name vs. discount DVD blanks
In its latest issue 14/2005, c't has tested blank DVDs. There was one major finding in the test of 63 brands: the quality of the blanks is not, contrary to common opinion, relative to the purchase price. Good blanks are available at 8x burning speeds starting at 60 cents. For instance, discs from Taiwan and India sometimes offer as much quality as brands from Japan. No wonder: after all, manufacturers from less expensive production sites sometimes supply blanks to Japanese brands and have gained their expertise in the meantime. Anzeige
The biggest problem with supermarket blanks is that customers cannot easily tell from the packaging which manufacturer has made which disks. One package may even contain media from various producers. The indication of the country of origin may help consumers discern the manufacturer. However, you can only be sure if you read out the manufacturer's ID on your PC. But even here, you have to be careful: one manufacturer from the Chinese peninsula of Macao imitates the ID of a Japanese brand without attaining the quality of the original. These very inexpensive imitates produced a much larger number of burning errors.
Blank DVD-Rs had much better quality than blank DVD+Rs. The reason may be the physical differences between the two burning formats. For instance, plus media work with a higher wobble frequency and have much greater radial disturbances in the record tracks than minus blanks.
In a climatic chamber test, c't simulated the ageing of the media and discovered some surprising differences: some disks that revealed very good quality just after burning were hard to read after spending time in the climatic chamber, while others that only had mediocre recording quality withstood the climatic chamber almost without deterioration. If you want to archive your data for many years, you should choose your storage media carefully.
The great risk of burning errors is still due to burning speeds that are too fast. Fortunately, in the meantime a few manufacturers of burners and blanks have managed to produce speeds up to 16x reliably. However, many recorders try to burn 8x blanks, in particular, too fast. In such cases, you should manually slow down the burning process to prevent errors and ensure the durability of the media. c't checked the optimal burning speed for each blank based on six different burner models and gives explicit recommendations for blanks for each model.
For details on the test of blank DVDs, tips on the best combination of blanks and burners, and background information on the technology of writable DVDs, see the specialist website below, "Nomorecoasters"
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/index.htm
Additionally, there is a freeware application you can download called "DVD Identifier". It can be found at http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
All you need to do is load up your blank, and it will tell you exactly who made it.

Your MacBook Pro has enough compute power to do airframe stress analysis modeling or weather forecasting. This is not a computational issue.
Most USB printers do the imaging on the Mac, then send the stream of bits to the printer. The speed of doing this depends on the Printer driver.
Some drivers will image the page in "slices", and then pause to image the next slice after the first one completes. This may also depend on whether you have enough RAM memory available to do the imaging for a whole page at a time.
You have not mentioned what Printer, or whether this is indeed the latest driver for it.

  • New Super Drive in iMac won't read DVD-R Data discs from windows machine.

Bought iMac 2.4 GHz 10/2007, the drive failed to burn DVD's about %70 of the time. Reading was very slow. Took to Apple Store in January, drive replaced. New drive burns and reads, except for TDK DVD-R data discs from my Sony Vaio (movies work). For these it gives alert "Blank DVD." When opened in finder it identifies media as a CD.
Someone had this problem earlier in the forum. No answer was posted. My Dell reads the dics fine. Stranger still, I hooked up an external LaCie 1394 DVD-R/RW+CD to the iMac to read the discs and got the same error. I hooked the same drive to my Dell and it read the same disc fine. Also, Dynex DVD+R and CD's work fine.
It does not seem to be a straight hardware issue. More like a device driver problem maybe?
Phone support suggested transferring all my data to DVD+R dics, but that is kind of a pain. Might upgrade to OS 10.5 help? Thanks

No suggestion but maybe some sharing of your misery. I bought a new 24" iMac 2.8 ghz on 2/24. Two hours after purchase, I put a DVD in the slot and nothing. Twenty five minutes with tech support, trying several different options to eject the disk, got me nowhere. They told me I would have to bring the machine in for repair. I did that, and magically, the DVD player is recognized when he (at the Apple store) boots the machine and it ejects the disk. He said the machine was fine. I said that it wasn't if I had to take the computer for a ride in my truck every time the optical drive doesn't work.
I'm waiting for a diagnostic to be run but I have my doubts about support in this area. I believe that Apple will say that they found nothing wrong and it's user error (not hardly, but it's probably easier than fixing the bug with the optical drives). This is my first ride with a Mac and I expected it to be wonderful. It's not a very smooth ride so far.

  • Burning data discs

Hi, I am new to Mac and I can not figure out how to burn a data disc. I am trying to backup my mp3s, some pictures and some random other files. I have put a blank DVD in the drive but don't know what to do after that. I tried to use Disk Utility but that doesn't seem to be the way to go.
I'm sure this is a simple process but I am apparently missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Holly

    Holly,
It's easier than you may be thinking
The files you want to backup up will probably be in a folder. Once a blank disk is mounted on your Desktop (make sure you blank CDs/DVDs set to open in the Finder in System Preferences>CDs/DVDs), simply drag the folder that contains your files to the blank CD/DVD.
Having done this, open the CD/DVD. You will notice that an "alias" that points to your folder now resides inside the blank disk. The disk icon for the blank media is actually a special kind of folder called a "Burn Folder," and not the actual mounted disk. In fact, blank media is not actually mounted in the normal sense, but rather this special folder is created where a disk would normally appear. One of the advantages to this paradigm is that, should you change you mind and decide to burn later, that "Burn Folder" with the pointers to the files you want to burn is kept, and all you need do is insert another blank disk at any time.
Notice, when you open the disk icon, that the folder showing its contents has a button at the top of the window labeled "Burn." When you are ready to burn your files to the disk, simply click this button.
If the disk you have inserted is able to hold all your files, it will burn. If not, you will be told to insert a larger disk, or to weed out some files.
Multi-session burns (where you burn some files now, but leave the disk "append-able" for burning later) require a different method using Disk Utility. Check Disk Utility's Help for info on that.

Called up AppleCare and found out that it may be a faulty drive, however, I didn't want to waste my time bringing the machine to the AppleStore for a replacement, so I just bought another dvd drive and replaced the old one. Sorry if this isn't helpful, but you may want to try other different kind of media before jumping into any conclusion.

When I try and burn a project to a DVD I get the message;" Please insert media". I've tried several different blank discs, as well as different brands...no matter what I still get this message. I can play pre-recorded DVDs in the burner, as well as music and data CDs...no problem. I've tried disabling the burner in Device Manager; and then re-enabling; also tried uninstalling the burner..no luck. I've uninstalled any other burning software that was on the machine and Encore still will not recognize that blank media is present in the DVD burner. I've run out of things to try/look at....Help!

I thought I could use a blank DVD-R disc as backup for data/files, as I've done with blank CD's in the past. I'm sure this is a real beginner question, but I just got my iMac. Thanks, David

    Hi David
First thing you need to do is change your preferences so that the DVD mounts on the desktop. Open System Preferences by click the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen and selecting "System Preferences..."
The select the CDs & DVDs pane in System Preferences. You can change the "When you insert a blank DVD" option to "Ask what to do". You can now close System Preferences
The computer will then ask what you would like to do when you insert the blank DVD, selecting "Open Finder" will mount the DVD on the desktop.
    Hope this helps
