TS1717 Windows 7: Blue Screens of Death because of iTunes

My computer runs on Windows 7 and ever since I've installed iTunes, I have regurlarly Blues Screens, which only occur when iTunes is running. Any idea about how, why and potential fixes?

  • Windows 7 - Blue screen of death after Boot Camp install

Hello! I have done some searches with no answers, so...
After installing Windows 7 from scratch I then install Boot Camp 3.0 which then leads to the Windows blue screen of death upon reboot. I then have to recover Windows to the previous state prior to installing Boot Camp.
    Help!?

Most likely, Apple HFS read-only, which is AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys - rename those and see.
You might want to run chkdsk after all this to make sure there are no errors with the drive and file system.
Windows Explorer will not accept HFS+ filenames with special characters and will "green bar" and hang when it does, too.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern.
    Rename AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys
By doing the following you will disable HFS mount / read mode on windows XP, Vista, 7.
Navigate to c:/windows/system32/drivers/AppleMNT.sys, rename the AppleMNT.sys file to something like AppleMNT_keep.sys or something of your likings.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern. It seems to happen on many systems.
    You find it in Windows/system32/drivers/AppleHFS.sys
Renaming to AppleHFS_disabled.sys will avoid the blue screens until you have found another solution or Apple updates Bootcamp 3
After renaming both myself because they are no longer "*.sys" or something? they are gone. In my case AppleHFS prevented Windows Backup from running to end and was causing error "some files skipped" and while some might find reading convenient, I prefer Windows not have even read-only access.
You can probably do better with MacDrive, or probably Paragon's HFS driver, to read AND write if needed, to HFS from Windows.

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 Blue Screen of Death on MBPwR

Hello all, I've never needed to use this before but gosh darn it I need some advice, because I can't figure this out...
I'd rate myself a 9 out of 10 in "Windows PC" experience
And maybe a 6 out of 10 with Macs, I'm still new!
I just bought the new Mac Book Pro with Retina Screen in early July, I can't remember the exact date. But it hasn't been thirty days yet, so if you think that's my best bet to try and get an exchange here, let me know.
    MC975LL/A
PROBLEM : Mac OSX Lion 10.7 works wonderfully, not a problem in the world, smooth as butter – the issue is Windows. I like to play some games and OSX doesn't play well with some Windows based games so I always install it on Bootcamp. Well, this has been a neverending issue on my new MBPwR because I can't seem to get it to work correctly.
          1. Here's how it started - I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 through Bootcamp, via my Superdrive and it ran well for a week or so. After installing a game and some other software (Steam) please take that as a coincidence as I did, I don't think Steam had anything to do with the crash, more likely it was something 'game' related, HDD, RAM, CPU, GPU? The computer started to get the "Blue Screen of Death" that Windows computers get, specifically: page_fault_in_nonpaged_area, I've never seen it before and I've owned a number of Windows computers over the years!
         2. Is this my fault, or something deeper? - I can't figure it out, is this a hardware problem or a software one? I reinstalled Windows 7 yesterday and attempted to try again. Just a chance my installation was messed or something, well it happened literally after five minutes of booting into Windows 7. After it happened the first time I used a memory check and a hard drive check software and both came up flawless. Some online on other boards although Windows based have suggested this error can be caused by the RAM and the CPU or the GPU, even... Is this true? As there is no way to test it, maybe exchanging this computer is the best option?
        3. As as a side note... - Has anyone else had a crawling slow boot into Windows 7? It takes my MBPwR almost five minutes of a top left-hand blinking cursor to actually boot to Windows 7.
So did I have some really, really bad luck here with a new computer? Or is this somehow software related? I can answer any questions if you have them so we can try and figure this out!
    Thanks!

Did the Nvidia driver install okay? Some users had to reinsall just the driver from Apple Windows Software Support.
Did Windows DVD not find anything wrong?
Is Windows set to be default boot OS in the control panel for selecting the boot volume?
There probably is a leaning curve and bleeding edge sortof with any new logicboard and setup.
Apple has issued a firmware upgrade for some models - I thought Retina - the MacBook Air has a serious problem under Windows.
Mac will run hotter under Windows. Maybe an error message.

  • Blue Screen of Death When opening iTunes.

I am at a loss. For the past six months I have been trying to figure out why my computer has a blue screen of death and then restarts "nearly" everytime i open iTunes. The "nearly" is what's driving me nuts because every once in a while it will open ONCE and then start crashing again. I don't even do anything to help it open it just miraculously works every now and then. It even craches the comp when starting iTunes in safe mode. The blue screen error says "Page Fault in non-paged area". iTunes worked fine for months before this randomly started happening. I have tried every solution I have seen, even ones that weren't for my problem. So far I have:
Manually uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled the standalone QT then iTunes.
Disabled itunes helper and ipod service before starting.
Disabling all other services and start-up items.
Installed current bios and drivers (as far as I can tell)
    Installed current windows installer.
    Updated microsoft products including .net
    Updated Java runtime environment
    Replaced ram
I have a pentium 4 1.6ghz with soyo mobo and a RAID card(mirrior) set-up. 1 gig of pc133 ram. I can ul the minidump if needed.
I figured out how to load my podcasts on my ipod manually but I want to get a video ipod so I need itunes. PLEASE HELP!!
      Windows XP

there's a few more things worth checking on. but let's also capture a minidump of the crash and send it to someone who can interpret minidumps.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
send it to this email address
in the email, put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context. Also give as much information about the context of the crash (in the email) as you can.
    love, b

  • Blue screen of death when accessing Itunes store

Whenever I click on the Itunes store, the computer crashes and I get blue screen of death.

You haven't given your operating system.
If you are getting a blue screen stop, it would help if you could post the exact error message. It should be some sort of numbers and text -
    0x(zeros/letters/numbers) (CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
    For example:
    Stop 0x05 (INVALIDPROCESS_ATTACHATTEMPT)
Also *is a file name mentioned* in the error message? If so give the exact file name
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), you can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Windows 7 Blue Screen of Death from Apple Wireless Keyboard?

I've installed Windows 7 with Boot Camp 3.0 drivers on my Mac mini, and I suppose overall, I'm enjoying it. However, I'm getting a blue screen that seems almost random. Keyword is almost.
I've got my Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mighty Mouse paired, and they're both working well, however, I do believe I am getting some blue screens from my wireless keyboard.
It seems, at random intervals (usually when I haven't touched the keyboard and mouse for awhile) I get an IRQL blue screen and no information about what's exactly causing it. For example, if I'm sitting in the other room listening to music for awhile, and I come back and press the "next" media button on my keyboard, it'll crash and give me the blue screen. However, I've also tried pressing another random button (shift) to "wake" the keyboard if it had fallen asleep, which also results in a blue screen. The blue screens ONLY show up when I give input via the wireless keyboard. Or, if I leave the computer on overnight to download a file or something, the screen will sleep (which it should) then I'll press a button on the keyboard, the screen will stay asleep, and the computer will restart. Which is just a hidden blue screen I'm assuming.
I've tried reinstalling Windows (Clean/fresh install of course), installing/uninstalling drivers, pairing and re-pairing. I've also removed unnecessary/non-Windows 7 drivers that were installed with Boot Camp.
Outside of this blue screen, I am quite impressed with Windows 7. I just can't figure out what's going on. Is there any place I can get a description of what's causing this crash? Does anyone know what's happening or know a solution to this?
Thanks in advance, if you need more details, please ask.

Experiencing exactly the same symptoms, bugcheck/bluescreen only when touching the Apple wireless keyboard after a period of inactivity.
I have an 20" iMac, just upgraded Leopard -> Snow Leopard latest minor version and updated to Boot Camp 3.1 hoping they provided a fix, but the driver at fault (keymagic.sys) doesn't look updated and the issue is still there
Hopefully someone from Apple dev support is reading this, here's all the info I could squeeze from the crash dump:

  • HP Pavilion 750n - Windows XP Blue Screen of Death Error

Hello everyone - I hope I can get a reply to fix my son's computer (I can't afford to buy a new one).
I received the blue screen of doom and I was not aware that Windows had a patch to fix this before the error occurred.  I tried to restore my system to when I first bought this computer without losing all my data (specially my pictures).  Now the system starts but it gets stuck on the page that asked if you want to logon on Safe Mode or Regular Mode, etc.  No matter what I choose the system keeps coming back to this same screen.
I read the following on the HP web side but I'm not sure how to get this diskette/cd or whatever they have available:
Preventing a Windows XP Critical Error
If you purchased your HP Pavilion home PC between September 2001 and February 2002, your PC may experience a Microsoft® Windows® XP critical error. To prevent an error that may cause your computer to be unusable, HP strongly recommends that you go to the Microsoft Windows Updates Web site to download all critical updates. Without these updates, an Unmountable Boot Volume error may occur randomly, and if it does, the error creates a blue screen with the message: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME…Technical Information: *** STOP: 0x000000ED
If this error occurs, you will be unable to fix the problem without a diskette that you can order from HP Technical Support.
The system won't let me send HP an email and I can’t see how to contact them just to ask for a price.  Perhaps, there may be another place where I can get the diskette for this fix - does anyone know how to get the diskette or if I can download the fix from somewhere else?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Get BartPE or Ultimate Boot CD and you should be able to get the computer to a state that will allow you to copy your files.
If you have a spare computer or HD, configure the problem HD as a slave and you should be able to access your files.

  • Itunes 64 bit  and windows 7 blue screen of death

Just installed Itunes 64bit on my new HP laptop and after a restart the computer had to be rolled back to start again. Is there a fault in Itunes....?
The very first problem with Windows 7.

Something may be awry with the special registry permissions on the My Music folder, Just. I think the iTunes installer looks for those in order to determine just where the default location of My Music is on a given computer.
But since this is a first-time install, the situation should be pretty simple to recover from.
Hold down the shift key when you go to launch iTunes. In the dialog box that comes up, select "Create library" and put the library where you please.
Probably a good idea after doing that to try launching iTunes again, just to make sure that it is still finding the iTunes folder. But by default, next time you open iTunes (after creating a new library), it should try to open the library in the location you created the library in.

  • Windows 7 Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD)

    Hi everybody,
a week ago my laptop showed for the first time a BSOD. I'm 90% sure that it is a hardware issue. Sometimes when i lift/move it or even press with my hands in certain areas it appears the  following symptoms:
the screen will immediately freeze or
    it will reboot or
    a BSOD will appear
I have checked other topics and i found that these files can be useful:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/dnh40wkdvhv2efm/Minidump.rar
Additionally, I have noticed that the BSOD error code is not the same everytime. The last time was this one i think:
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
      OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
      Locale ID: 1032
    Additional information about the problem:
      BCCode: 50
      BCP1: FFFFD46000105629
      BCP2: 0000000000000008
      BCP3: FFFFD46000105629
      BCP4: 0000000000000007
      OS Version: 6_1_7601
      Service Pack: 1_0
      Product: 768_1
I would really appreciate any help. Thank you

These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run this test to find which driver is causing the problem.
If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't
know what it is you probably are not overclocking.

  • Windows 8 Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) BAD_POOL_CALLER

    Hi,
I have been using windows 8 for the past week and have issues with BSOD appearing at random intervals and over the lat few days more frequently. After performing several rebuilds of the OS and carefully selecting Windows 8 supported applications i still
    continue to receive this error.
I have reviewed the minidump files and the cause of the issues seems to be with ntoskrnl.exe
I have contacted microsoft support and sony vaio support and they advise e to rebuild every time or restore the system to a previous working version. Unfortunately this does not resolve the issue and i find myself back at the beginning again.
Could anyone advise on this issue and how to resolve?
    Thanks
    Matt

    * Bugcheck Analysis *
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

  • Windows 2000 "blue screen of death" after a small number of gpib reads - related to gpibclsd.sys

    Labview 6i gpib drivers 1.7
If I just keep just reading (I stripped the operations down to "reading" to track this down) from the GPIB instrument (HP3456A) in a FOR loop every 2 seconds
    - somewhere after 10<100
reads Windows 2000 crashes with an error related to gpibclsd.sys Seems like some sort of buffer overflow.
This is a bit annoying, as I have just now finaly learned Labview and have it ready to do something for me.
I would say "close but no cigar"...

    alas, I have done so.
I deleted the i.7 drivers and started the
    installation of NI-488.2.2.1
The setup program hangs on launch but running the individual .msi's got the drivers installed. Although the board is present and working properly according to the device manager - MAX fails to detect the board. When the troubleshooter is run the board can not be sequentially verified - with an unknown hardware error.
I just notice Visual basic gpib access does not work either. I don't know whether its HW or SW at this point.
    Thanks for the help though.
