TS1963 Migration via Wifi + Ethernet is extremely slow

Why the migration of information from my old PowerBook to the new one via Wifi + Ethernet is so slow?  60 hours!!!!
The migration assistant didn't give me any other choice like FireWire.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Wi-Fi and Ethernet are very slow, so I think it's normal that time if you have to transfer a lot of data.
Migration Assistant can't transfer through FireWire because the MacBook Pro with Retina display hasn't got FireWire, and if your PowerBook has got FireWire, it's probably FireWire 400, making everything much more difficult. I recommend you to get an external drive and transfer your files manually

  • MBP 5.1 I have a recent problem with airport connectivity. ethernet connection is working fine, but wifi has become extremely slow and bad functioning. signal is received, no problem with the wlan (my husband 's wifi with MBP is perfect) please help

I have a MBP 5.1 with snow leopard 10.6.8. It has been working fine until few days ago, when it started to have different problems:
    1) airport is not working well. it is extremely slow, has difficulties in fully loading pages, looses connectivity, It is not browser related, behaves thesame in safari or firefox; it is not the router/wlan; my husband mbp wifi works fine (as it was mine...) and iphone wifi is also working fine. it sees the signal and different networks. , it is also very very slow in opening skype (after that, it is working ok) if  I connect via ethernet cable to the same router, everything works perfectly and with the correct speed.could it be a damaged airport card? a software problem/corruption? logic board? (I hope not, the computer is out of apple care now....)
    2) after a certain time (more than hours) of use, the trackpad is behaving strangly, increase sensitivity to touch, unwanted selection of folders, files and text or images in web pages when i move the cursor, the cursor jumping all over the places while writing, ecc I have the impression it starts doing that when I use heavily the CPU ( and the temperature goes up). Is this again a problem of the mother/logic board?
I had recently serviced it since it was not booting properly, but except some permissions repaired, they did noit find anything wrong in the hard drive (which I have  now substituted with a SSD) or other hardware.
thanks in advance for any help/suggestions
    alessandra

I think I solved the wifi connection problem, just by switching off completely the router! sounds trivial, but in this case it worked!!!
the funny behaviour of the trackpad/cursor still persists. any suggestion???
    thanks again

  • Wifi unstable and extremely slow on my Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-7.

Hi again ! My previous problem is now solved. But now I have issues with my wifi. The wifi works perfectly on other devices but on my Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-7, it's just impossible to do anything on the internet... I've read it's a common problem and there are solutions. What steps should I follow in order to solve this ? I'm running Windows 8.1 by the way. I really like the performances of this computer so I wish to get rid of this stupid problem ! Thank you very much.

Can you describe "unstable and extremely slow" in more detail. Are you connected to the 5 GHz band of your wireless router or are you connected to the 2.4 GHz band? Are you having problems with all websites or just a few? Which web browser are you using?  IE or chrome or firefox? What is the model # of your wireless router? Is your wireless router supplied by your ISP? Or did you buy it retail? What BIOS version is currently installed on you laptop? What BIOS version is designated as the latest version on Acer's website? Does the problem occur when you use other people's wifi such as a friend, relative or neighbor?  Have you tested it somewhere besides your home? Does Acer's website list an updated wireless driver for your computer? http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

  • Apple TV wifi connexion gets extremely slow in 1 day. Reboot solves it...

    Hi,
I have an ATV 3. The setup is simple, no jailbreak. Connected on an impressively fast wifi N connexion. Logged in my iTunes account, with Home Sharing with my MacMini, always on. ATV set up to never go into sleep mode. Airfoil on my MacMini and streaming the sound of ATV into Airfoil by Airplay (tried to deactivate it and my issue described below is still here).
Now, when I start my ATV and stream an iTunes TV show I bought (not through HomeSharing), it's a perfect experience, the playback starts in 1 sec, 1080p, wow.
The next day, I do the same thing, start streaming a show on iTunes (not through HomeSharing), and this time, it says the show will start in 33 minutes!!! I reboot my ATV and it's blazing fast again.
I've had this observation maybe 10 times, tried different things, including the 'never go to sleep ATV setting' thing...
ATV is great but if I have to unplug and replug it every time, it's a real pain!
Any idea? Someone already experienced such things? (fast connexion at first, then extremely slow the next day until unplug/replug solves it)
    Thanks a lot

When connected via LAN works fast and well but via wifi its useless.
I have the intel core I3 and Broadcom 802.11n with the newest drviers.

  • Wifi extremely slow after Windows 10 Upgrade

After upgrading to Windows 10 my wifi connection is extremely slow.  I updated all the Lenovo drivers after the upgrade and it hasn't helped. The listed network driver is 2x2 11b/g/n Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter.  I've included screenshot below of a speedtest on the same network between my T440s and my smartphone.  The smartphone results are what should be expected on the laptop.  T440s Speed Test Samsung S6 Speed Test When observing the task manager there are no other programs utilizing the network.

    I had the same problem.
After trying many suggestions on the internet I found one that solved my problem. I took more than a week to solve but now I'm happy.
On my case the problem was the security wifi protocol. I was using AES and changed to TKIP. For me there is no reason to this to work, but solved my problem.
    Hope it helps.

  • Extremely slow downloads via Itunes 8.2

I've used Itunes on my macs for years, currently Itunes 8.2 on a MacBook Pro. But for the last two months downloads via itunes have become extremely slow, e.g. many hours for a 20mb podcast. Downloading the same podcast directly form a website takes just a minute or two on the same internet connection.
I have re-installed itunes and that did not solve the problem. Any other ideas?

  • WiFi is Fast, But Ethernet Extremely Slow

On both my old 2008 24" iMac and my brand new 27" iMac, the Internet is extremely slow when the Ethernet cable is plugged in. When it's unplugged and I'm on WiFi, it's lightning quick.
When I'm on Ethernet, even retrieving text-only emails from Mail is painfully slow, as if I'm on dial-up. Web pages that are light on graphics take forever to load, regardless of browser. Safari, Firefox, Chrome, doesn't make a difference.
It's not all the time, sometimes it's very quick, but most of the time it's so slow it's unusable.
Some things I've tried on my own:
New Ethernet cable - no difference
Plugging into different ports on cable modem - no difference
Unplugging cable modem, waiting a couple minutes, plugging back in - no difference
Had the cable company out, they checked everything and saw nothing wrong on their end
Plugged my wife's Windows laptop into the modem - web pages load very quickly
I added a DNS address to System Preferences > Network - no difference
When I go to a website such as Speedtest.net, it routinely shows 60-70 Mb/s download (I'm paying for 60). Even if I'm on Ethernet, it may take forever to actually load the Speedtest page, but once I do and hit "Test", it comes back with at least 60 Mb/s.
System specs are as follows: Late 2013 27" iMac, 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GM RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 4 MB graphics card, 1 TB fusion drive.
Based on everything I've tried above, I don't think it's the modem or the cable company, but something in the Mac. When I got the new computer, I transferred everything from the old via Time Machine. I'm hoping I didn't transfer some obscure setting that is preventing the Ethernet from running at its full potential...
Any suggestions would be most welcome - thank you!

  • HT4262 Is there any way to extend my Apple Extreme Base Station using an Apple Express by via ethernet or does it only work via wifi and being in range?

From what I read, the only way to extend my Apple Wifi Network is via another Apple Airport Extreme or Express using overlapping wifi zones. If I try to connect my Apple Express to my Apple Extreme via Ethernet, then this is guaranteed to fail regardless of how I configure the Express. Is that correct?

It is certainly possible and better....in terms of performance.....to connect the AiPort Express to your AirPort Extreme using Ethernet to extend the network that way.
If you are having problems with this, then your setup is not correct....or....if your setup is correct, you may have a defective AirPort.
We can walk you through the steps to get things set up correctly if we can get some basic information to provide the correct settings.
What is the model number of the AirPort Extreme?
What is the model number of the AirPort Express?
if you are not sure, look on the bottom of the Extreme and side or bottom of the Expess. The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.
We also need to know what operating system you are using on your computer. If you have a Mac, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac and post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.
We will likely have more questions about your current setup to understand things a bit better, so please be patient.

  • Extremely slow internet via ethernet with Mavericks upgrade

I recently upgraded my mac-mini to mavericks from snow-leopard.  Ever since then, my internet connection has basically ground to a halt, and since much of my work is based off access to files on a server via a web-portal, my work flow has basically ground to a halt.  I've talked with IT here at the office and the network connection is functionining fine, ping speeds are proper and I'm not dropping packets or having collisions or anything like that.
All of the issues I see discussed here revolve around the wifi/bluetooth conflict issue, and since I'm not connecting via wifi to anything, this doesn't help me at all.  Is it possible I have a corrupted install that's causing this?  Or are there something I could do in my network settings or elsewhere to alleviate this problem?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Wifi is extremely SLOW

I'm not sure what's going on. My wifi is extremely slow. I know it's not the network, I have a PC hooked up via ethernet and it runs fast/normal. I also have a NAS on it, and the drives are mounted, sometimes. Often, it'll fail to make a connection to them. Again, the NAS shows up fine on the PC. I'm not sure why my macbook pro has such slow wifi; my previous mac ran fine and I haven't tinkered with anything in the network.

    Quote from: Rostan;108703
I have two routers both work fine. Only thing that has issues is the GS60 and GS70
Updating firmware can solve/improve the compatibility issue.
    Quote from: Rostan;108706
This guy is in the process of trouble shooting an issue with the Drivers and has not found a solution so there is nothing useful from this.
Changing wifi connection to 802.11a/5GHz band can improve the download speed. I'd give that a try.
The last issue he has is that his home router doesn't support 802.11a.

  • I have a modem from my cable company that provides WiFi.  When I try to connect time capsule to the modem via an ethernet cable I am unable to and I also lose my wifi connection

I have a modem from my cable company that provides WiFi as well as ethernet ports for internet TV and Sonos.  But when I connect Time Capsule via an ethernet cable to the back of the modem I am unable to get it to work and I lose my wifi connection completely. I added Time Capsule to back up data and also to extend the reach of my wifi with an airport extreme hooked up by another computer.

Put the TC in bridge before you plug it in.. ie do the setup in isolation to the rest of the network..
I would also start a new wireless name on the TC so it is different to the cable router..
If you want to be exacting also set wireless channels so the cable router is set to say channel 1 and the TC set to 11 for 2.4ghz. Then plug it in.. you will have no trouble as the TC will get an ip address as part of the existing networking.. then extend the wireless using the extreme.

  • WiFI extremely slow in Arch

I have a new install of Arch after deciding to give it a go after 6 or 7 years on Gentoo.
The only problem I am experiencing is extremely slow internet. 1.58Mbps vs 31Mbps previously in Gentoo.
Google seems to indicate a lot of people have similar issues with Arch, but having followed the Wiki to the letter and not finding any solutions on Google I am stuck at where to start.

If you are using a USB WiFi device that can potentially change names with different ports, it would probably make sense to either create a persistent name for that particular piece of hardware, or go back to the old naming scheme if you don't have another wireless card.  The idea of these crazy names is that if you have two wireless cards, two ethernet cards, or even an ethernet card and a broadcom wireless card (which also uses the eth* namespace), you will never know which will be 0 and which will be 1.  But if you tell the system what to name them, then you can at least have your netctl service run on a given interface name and know what it is going to be.
Having said all that, you should also be aware that other network management solutions deal with changing interface names much better then netctl.  Netctl needs the interface name to be specified in the profile, so if it changes you are kind sh*t out of luck until you make the manual changes necessary.
To see if you have multiple network management services trying to handle things, run "systemctl --type=service" to see all the services you have going.  If you see more than one that should be handling the network (for example, if you enabled [email protected] during setup) then you need to figure out which single management solution is going to best fit your use case and go with that one only.  Most commonly, people still ahve dhcpcd.service or dhcpcd@<interface>.service around.  But it is also not uncommon to see people with netctl-ifplugd@<interface>.service running along with netctl-auto@<interface> at the same time, which will also cause issues.

  • How to share ethernet printer via wifi?

I currently have an ethernet laser printer connected to our two desktops via an ethernet router/hub. If I disconnect the ethernet hard wire from one desktop, is there a way for it to continue to access the printer (ethernet capable, not USB) if I add an Airport Extreme base station? If so, will it be able to access the printer directly as it does now, or would I have to have it use sharing with the other desktop to which the printer will still be connected via an ethernet cable? (My current wifi is supplied by a Qwest modem/router with wifi). Thank you.

If you get an AirPort Extreme, all of your wired and wireless devices will belong to the same network. Specifically, if you connect one desktop and the printer to the AirPort ethernet and connect the other desktop wirelessly, both Macs will be able to print in exactly the same way.

  • Can I extend my network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable? I have CAT5 cable throughout my house but have a wireless network w/ 3 airport expresses

Can I extend my wireless network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable?  I have a wireless network with 3 airport expresses and 1 airport extreme functioning as the base station. I have CAT5 throughout my house.

    Welcome to the discussions, mib88!
Can I extend the network a second time with another Airport Express...
The short answer would be no. If you want more details, please continue to the next paragraph.
Apple's "extend a wireless network" works just like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your main hub is either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express is at the end of a spoke. You can add more devices at the ends of other spokes, but these devices will communicate directly to the hub, not to another device at the end of a spoke.
Apple does offer an option which is is known as a "static WDS", which can consist of a "main", "relay" and "remote" device. The problem here is that this type of setup has two huge drawbacks:
    1) All of your faster "n" devices will drop down to much slower "g" speeds
    2) The bandwidth or speed capability on the network will drop down to only 25% of the original bandwidth with a "main", "relay" and "remote" on the network.
Don't think you want this on your network. Your best option is to connect the new AirPort Express to the "hub" using an ethernet connection. If you can't run the ethernet cable, take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home.
