TS2057 mac mini doesn't see dvd

Recently my mac mini doesn't see dvd's when i put them in to play.

I have to agree with Dah●veed and use an > LG GE24LU20 Reviews that I call Brutus.
Not only has Brutus spared the SuperDrives in both my 2006 iMac and 2010 Mac Mini, but he runs circles around the SuperDrives when it come to burning, importing, playing, even booting from System Install and Upgrade Disc's.
Other External DVD Drives that are highly reccommended here in the forums, are:
OWC's > SuperDrive DVD, DVD Dual-Layer, CD-R/RW, Blu-Ray Optical Drive Solutions FireWire, USB2, eSATA
and the LaCie's > LaCie - LightScribe DVD±RW, Duplicators and Blu-ray - USB 2.0 & FireWire

  • Mac mini doesn't see/eject/burn cd's/dvd's

My Mac mini no longer recognizes cd's/dvd's - I have a cd stuck that doesn't show up on the finder, and can't be ejected. There have been a few instances over the last few weeks where the cd will appear in the finder. I can then eject it, but when I insert another cd, it disappears.
I am experiencing similar behavior from my external dvd burner, which suggests to me that this is a system/os issue. Both had worked fine for years, and there have been no significant changes to my system since.
Here's what I've tried, based on research at Apple Support:
    Eject key in sleep mode
    Cmd-Opt-O-F on reboot
hold mouse key down on reboot
    Disk Utility disk permissions repair
    Onyx disk repair
    PRAM reset
Nothing has affected my situation. Please advise.

Here is the most simple trick that always gets overlooked with discs stuck in drives - Open Toast (or a burn folder), drop some data in to burn, click burn and "Wulla!" the disc magically comes out (most of the time). Too easy, isn't it? - This is also a good way to check if your drive is being recognized by the system. The fact it happens with your external drive as well points more towards the kind of discs you are using and their condition, so it might be worthwhile experimenting with a few different brands of discs. Try running the hardware test from your OS disc and see if it finds any errors.

  • Mac Mini Doesn't Recognize DVD/CD media

I've tried most of the suggestions given on the boards, including the SMU reset, but my Mac Mini still has problems with burned CD's and trying to burn DVD's. I've tried several different brands of DVD media and the DVD's just get kicked out. On the CD side, I load a burned disc from another machine it just shows up as a blank disc. I'm running Leopard 10.5.3 on this machine. Any ideas?

The fact you're having problems with both DVDs and CDs is not a good sign, since it is more likely to mean a faulty drive than if one or other media were problematic, but the other worked OK.
Do you get any error messages when you insert a blank DVD or burn a CD?
One thing you might want to try is to use a lens cleaner on the drive since the slot loading drives are a little more prone to dirt and debris than tray loaders. Normally if a head is dirty you'd be able to work with one media but not the other, so the fact both are troublesome either means it's not a simple matter of a dirty head or that the drive is significantly contaminated.
If the lens cleaner doesn't help, I think the symptoms suggest the drive itself has problems. In that instance, it may be a loose connector, or that it needs to be replaced. If the latter, I'd normally suggest an external drive for greater flexibility and better performance - typically at a not much different price than an internal drive, but obviously not then requriring any service time of cost.

  • Mac Mini doesn't see PC connected via AirPort

I created a wireless network using the AirPort built into the Mac Mini. My PC laptop connects to this network, but I can't find the PC or any of its components from the Mac. I am new to AirPort so maybe I don't know where to look. However, it seems there should be some icon for the PC on my desktop or in the finder. Is this a Mac/PC compatibility issue?

    To see the PC:
    1. In the Finder, press Command-K.
    2. Enter the PC's IP address.
    3. Authenticate with your username and password form the PC (You need a password for this to work)
Then if you want, write an Automator app to do that for you and a keychain for your passwords.
    Hope this helps!

  • Mac Mini doesn't read DVD's

When I insert any DVD into my Mac Mini it says Disc not able to be read by this computer.
It reads CDs fine.. I tried to start the DVD player app and it gives an initialization error and that a valid DVD player could not be found..
    It does have a DVD drive:PiOnEeR DvD-Rw DvR-K06
Any idea why it would read CDs not DVDs and appear to have lost all DVD functionality??
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi, read that this strangely worked for a few Mini owners the other day...
Stand the Mini on it's side & try a DVD.

My Mac Mini doesn't recognize my Avengers DVD--it keeps saying "Supported disc not available." I've tried other DVD's which work, but not this one. itunes and everything else has been updated to the newest versions. Help? Also...It doesn't recognize the digital copy DVD.

I have ALL the exact same symptoms as on my home computer.
It sure sounds to me like something on the iPod is broken. If it's under warranty then I would send it back for repair. If not, check out some of the web repair services, such as iPodResQ etc.

  • 2010 Mac mini Superdrive not burning DVD's

My mac mini is not burning DVD's right. I put in a 500GB harddrive a few months back and the SATA cables are attached correct. I can read DVD's but writing DVD's doesn't work. The process finishes but when after I eject the disc I can see that nothing is burning in the inner most part of the disc. When I put the disc back in the computer thinks the disc hasn't been burned and asks if it shuld be open in finder like a blank disc. I know a cd/dvd should burn from the center and spiral outward as it writes more data but it seems the disc is offset when it writes its first data, leaving the inner most part of the disc blank. Maybe I should reformat the OS and start from scratch to see if that helps. Any other ideas?

Strange these Memorex DVD's worked flawlessly a couple of times then I started getting these srange burns. I think I'm going to blitz this install I'm backing up with time machine now so I'll see what happens. Is there anyway to reapply an EFI update to make sure nothing is corrupt? I did notice what looked like brownish black burns on the logicboard when I opened it up to put the new harddrive in. They were on the long solder traces where they test the logic board by the the logic boards sata connections. I keep the system on 24/7 but don't really play any 3d or do anything that is too processor intense. Another thing is the superdriver seems to favor the left side when a DVD is initially inserted and ejected but moves to the conter when pressed all the way in I can't remember that being normal.

  • Mac Pro doesn't see third monitor

    Guys:
My Mac Pro doesn't see all three of the monitors that I have hooked up...what am I doing wrong?
I previously came to you for your expert advice about video cards...I went and upgraded my Radeon 4870 which was running two monitors (Eizo and NEC) to a ATI Radeon 5870 in order to run three monitors (my new Cintiq)
When the Cintiq was not hooked up yet, the Mac saw the Eizo and NEC. When I connected the Cintiq...the Cintiq and the NEC show up but not the Eizo.
I went and upgraded the video card so I could run all three monitors because I didn't want to plug and unplug the Cintiq whenever I needed it. I believe I did my due diligence as far as research was concerned to ensure this would all work together...I'll be pretty bummed if this configuration can't do three monitors not to mention the financial cost.
Any help would be appreciated...as always.
    Thanks!

I read your links, if I understand correctly, it may work with Dual Link DVI adapters?
    My monitor connections are:
Eizo: DVI with the cord that came with the monitor (unsure if DVI single or dual link)
    NEC: VGA to mini display
Cintiq: DVI to mini display (think it is a single link DVI)
Thanks!...so what do I need to go buy?
Here's a partial answer (need more info to answer about single vs. dual link, more about that later).
In the Mac Pro (Mid 2010)... document I referenced above there's a key note:
Note: The Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adaptor and Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor are considered active adaptors.
So if you get the apple mini-displayport to VGA adaptor that will count as one of the active adaptors.  I use one of those incidentially but I am not sure but it may be that all mini-displayport to VGA adaptors are consider "active".
Now for the single vs. dual link DVI question.  It depends on the max resolution of those monitors (or the max you want to run them at).  Single link DVI has a max resolution of 1920 x 1200, while dual link DVI can display a resolution of 2560 x 1600.  So that's why I cannot answer this part of your question (you didn't specify the max resolution).  If you only need single link active adaptors they will certainly be a lot cheaper than dual link.
Also note, you should only need two active adaptors on the card to support 3 monitors.  So only one of the remaining connections needs to be an active adaptor.  The other can be passive (much cheaper).

  • Mac mini doesn't boot

    Hi,
My 2009 Mac mini doesn't boot anymore : all I get is a blank screen, I can't even chose to boot on the restoration drive.
From your experience, what do you think it could be linked with ? motherboard ? RAM ? It doesn't looke like a hard drive issue.
    Thanks
    Benoît

Hello! I'm having, what sounds like, the same issue.  Everything was working fine, until I ran a combined update, as prompted, for 10.8.2.  After the normal reboot, the computer boots to a plain, white screen with no Apple.  The computer is not responding to any keyboard command at startup, be it any of the reset commands, 'C' to boot to the optical drive, or option to select the startup destination.  When pressing the Caps/Num lock keys, I notice that none of the LED lights will turn on on the keyboard.  The piggybacked optical mouse is not showing it's red light from the bottom either.  These tested fine on my MacBook Pro, however, and have always worked with the Mac Mini.  Connecting and reconnecting the devices does not help.  I know how to run all of the hard disk repairs, the permission fixes, etc., but it appears as though something is stopping my USB devices from being utilized (or even powered) at startup.  I work in IT, and I support Apple computers every day (point being, I do know my stuff).
I opened the case and disconnected the hard drive from the logic board, thinking a potential hard disk issue is to blame.  Upon restart, I still get the BONG (chime), but the machine will still not respond to any keyboard commands.  Plugging in a USB stick that was created as a Mountain Lion boot device in Disk Utility with the InstallESD.dmg doesn't yield any results (as I am unable to 'tell' the computer to boot from it).  The system disc that was packaged with the Mini is in the optical drive, but the Mini won't boot to that either.  I'm at a complete loss.  This is a 2010 model which was purchased new in December in that year.  I'm using HDMI directly to an HDTV.  The cable is working, the TV is working, the optical drive works in another machine, and the hard disc makes the necessary sounds (but not anything out of the ordinary).
To reiterate, this happened IMMEDIATELY after installing the combined 10.8.2 update.  I am seeing a lot of posts about this issue, but no actual solutions.  The dialogue seems to die somewhere after, "Reset the PRAM."
    PLEASE ADVISE

  • I just bought a new mac mini and an external DVD burner. I want to burn a DVD video and it will not play on the TV but only on the computer? Need this figured out for tomorrow.

I just bought a new mac mini and an external DVD burner. I want to burn a DVD video and it will not play on the TV but only on the computer? Need this figured out for tomorrow. Can anyone help me?

Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?
OS X Mountain Lion: Burn a CD or DVD may help.

  • Mac mini doesn't do anything after startup

My early 2009 Mac mini doesn't allow me to do anything after booting. Once the desktop loads, anything I do causes a spinning beach ball to appear.
Important info: Hard drive has over 30Gb of free space, so that isn't an issue.
    Help please!

To be honest, I think it's over 60Gb of free space. The hard drive is either 320Gb or 360Gb.
    I can't check
EDIT: I'm completely wrong, it has 112GB left of 320

  • Suddenly Mac mini won't "see" external drives. Possible related to OS software update to 10.6.8?

Suddenly Mac mini won't "see" external drives, neither Firewire nor USB. Possible related to OS software update to 10.6.8? Worked fine under 10.6.4. Any advice? Thanks.

Turns out it was nothing to do with the OS update, it was just a loose cable plug connecting my FireWire/USB hub to the computer. But your tip is a good one -- I'd been wondering why the external drives (even when mounted properly) weren't showing up in the sidebar. Thanks!

  • My new mac mini doesn't have upper dock?

My new mac mini doesn't have upper dock?

You appear to be confusing Macs and iOS devices. The Mac mini does not run on iOS 4, if new, it has Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow Leopard.
You should sort out the profile that you show so we know what devices you have with which proper OS and then be much more explicit about what the problem is.

  • My new mac mini does not see usb drives, but in hardware info the usb is visible

my new mac mini does not see usb drives, but in hardware info the usb is visible
i'tried several usb flash drives even brand new ones, they are visible onder hardware info but they are not on the desktop nor in the finder.
what is wrong and doe anyone has a solution ?

It does not show up in disk utility, its only visible through systeminformation.
When you plug in the USB flash drive and then refresh systeminformation it becomes visible.
To remove it I shut down the computer because I cannot eject the USB device anywhere.
After starting up again when I have removed the flash drive it has gone from the systeminfo USB list.
By the way my USB mouse and keyboard are working fine, I also changed ports of these and they still keep on working so I don't think the USB ports are defect.
I guess it some kind software problem, and because I'm new to Apple I do not know much about it how to solve this.
