TS2167 iWeb 08

In iWeb 08, it worked fine earlier when I published to folder, but now it says can't create file because one of the files maybe damaged.
Can anyone help please? Thanks

  • TS2167 iweb not publishing

Please can someone help with some useful advice.  I have just created a website for my new company, published to FTP server (not mobileme) and the first page is uploaded no problem (www.peakskiholidays.com) but if you click the link on any of the other pages these do not load and state and error.  I am pulling my hair out now and I know some will come back to me saying what do you expect from iweb but I wanted to be in control of my own website and found it so easy to use.  I haven't gone made with pages and links etc in the website and I have used this before with my previous website (www.peaktherapies.co.uk) and had no issues at all.
If any one can suggest why this doesn't work and how I can get the whole thing uploaded it would be much appreciated.
    many thanks

ok I know I am going to come across really dumb here but....
Ok, thanks for the help.  However, the file you indicate is missing - what is this where should it go and what do I do with it.
I have no idea why the domain name is also my site name these were the details given by my host people, although they did say they would sort it out to look better in the browser etc.
Not sure what you mean about making something an image if it's a text?  I have chosen the text 'cracked' so assuming everywhere I have used this (alot) I should split the words individually?
I have gone through all the links at the bottom of my page and they all go to where I want them to go within the website design on iweb, I've tested all ?
Sorry if I am being a little dumb here but the program was easy to use without further IT knowledge, i really appreciate your feedback as I am very keen to get my site live asap but please could you expand on your feedback so I can put these wrongs right.
    many thanks

  • TS2167 iWeb: publish by ftp to GoDaddy webhosting service - get "publish error" at end of ftp session - always 1-2 files not successfully transferred - Why?

Why do I get message "Publish error There was an error communicating with the server.  Try again later, or check with your service provider" when i publish websites to webhosting service (GoDaddy.com) from iWeb 3.0.4  even though most webpages have been transferred and are marked blue?   There are always a few pages marked red after each ftp transfer?   It seems that the ftp session is terminated by web hosting service too fast for iWeb 3.0.4. to register that files have been transferred successfully.  When I check pages marked red in iWeb with browser, they are often available and functioning.     I have to add many extra webpages (which I do not want) to get iWeb to register all my pages as transferred (marked blue).  If I do not do this, all pages on website are marked "red" after I close iWeb and restart it.   This means that everytime i make one little change to one page on a website of 8-10 Gigabytes,  I often have to republish the entire site!
I think (without understanding enough/anything about ftp protocolls and termination negotiations) that iWeb is not getting enough time at end of each ftp session to register that all the pages have in fact been transferred successfully.   Could this be the explanation?  If so, how do I "slow down" the termination of ftp session by my web hosting service GoDaddy so that iWeb 3.0.4 can see that all files have been successfully transferred and therefore should be marked blue?

You're rather prone to problems, aren't you. It's not the first time.

Which is the culprit site :
         http://www.melissaveres.com
         http://www.mveres-engraver.com
And since you do not use iWeb's ftp, but publish to a folder, iWeb's job is done.
You are now 100 percent responsible for your actions.
Upload the files properly. And if you're not blind visually challenged, you can see for yourself where the files are on the server. No need for GoDaddy eyes.
And why not use iWeb's FTP. Then at least you eliminate the human error.
And no, GoDaddy won't have to help you with iWeb, because there's nothing to fix.
And practice FTP first on your computer :

  • TS2167 iWeb will not publish?, it keeps giving me an error

What version of iWeb are you using and what system are you running?  What are you using to upload the files to your server?

Can't create the file,,,,The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges?

What version of iWeb are you using?  How much free space do you have you on your boot drive?
Try the following general troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

I changed my header in iweb and when I published the site the font had shrunk and it displayed incorrectly. It was only on my home page, not on others. I have iweb 3.0.4. Help!?!?

Just in-case anyone els runs into this, I figured it out... I was working from my hotel and apperantly the fire wall was not allowing anything to uplaod, but I wasn't getting an error message from iweb, it would say that everything was published succesfully even though it wasn't. Once I went home and used my connection eveything worked fine.

  • TS2167 I am running OS X 10.8.2 and IWeb 3.0.4 (601) and everytime I try to publish my website I get an unexpected error and it does not publish my changes. My website is pretty simple, mostly made up of iPhoto albums in different categories.

Where are you publishing to?  Can you publish successfully to a folder on your hard drive? Have you read this webpage: Publish iWeb site using FTP. It may have a clue to where the problem is.
    A quick troubleshooting fix is
    Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
However, when you delete the preference file you probably will have to use the app described below to select and open your domain file with iWeb:
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • TS2167 My web pages created in iWeb have disappeared

I finally completed the creation of a website in iWeb with some 30 pages last night and uploaded it to to the host GoDaddy.
After upload I went to the URL for my website on GoDaddy and it looked fine.  This morning when I opened my Domain.sites2 file
it opened iWeb as if I hadn't done a website at all.  I went to a backup Domain.sites2 file that was 1.43 GB in size when when I opened it, the same thing appeared - the opening window in iWeb asking me to choose a template to start creating my website.
My site in GoDaddy is still there, but I do not seem to be able to to open my original iWeb file with all of the 30 website pages,
So I apparently can't make any updates to my website in GoDaddy.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  I did correct disc
permissions and that did not help.
    Zack

What Mac OSX version are you using?  Lion or Mountain Lion?
It is just that if you are using Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite, then it is no longer possible to open individual domain.sites files and once you open one domain file, you are not able to open anything else and that is probably what you are finding.
To be able to open individual domain.sites files you will need to download an application such as Domain Cracker or iWeb User Sites.  Do a search of this forum and there are multiple topics on it, or do a Google search and you should be able to find it to download.
Can I ask why you decided to use iWeb to create a 30 page new website?  Did you actually know that iWeb software has not been supported or sold by Apple for over 2 to 3 years now and is an unsupported product, which is why you are experiencing problems using it?
Perhaps you should look for an alternative - check out RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, Web Acappella 4 and EverWeb.

  • Cannot publish from iWeb 08 after upgrading to Leopard

When I click on Publish from iWeb I first get a window .Mac Information asking me to login and a smaller window saying "logging in to iWeb". I click on sign in button from .Mac Information window and then get the System Preferences window telling me I am signed in and giving me my account status. From here nothing happens. The "logging into iWeb" message stays and nothing happens.
    What should I do?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too! I have experienced both modem/network problems and was unable to publish in Tahiti and Cook Islands because of that and now these problems which have nothing to do with network it seems - so yours may or may not be network related. I was able to cheat and copied my "Site" folder from my hard drive to my iDisk rather then publishing. I can't remember if you've tried this or not (read a lot of strings today) but you can publish to a folder and then copy that folder to your iDisk at /Web/Sites/iWeb/Site as "Site" after first renaming the one that is out there now. Let me know if you have any questions on how to do it. It sounds like you are traveling like we are and anxious to communicate with friends and family back home. When you are bored, our site is web.mac.com/baganworldtour.
At least we now have our first update out there in two weeks. But it took almost two hours to copy the folder and this won't work forever. Hopefully we, whether by the discussion room or .mac support next week, will be able to fix the problem for real.
    Thanks. Good Luck. Merry Christmas

  • How do I stop iWeb outputting multiple image files? It makes my site slow!

I'm a professional web designer (but don't let that put you off) who uses Dreamweaver and also handcodes HTML & CSS websites at work on a PC, but having got a new Mac for home use I thought I'd give iWeb a go for a personal site hosted on .Mac, showcasing my music and film efforts, that I didn't want to have to think about coding.
I've built a short little site using the attractive 'Travel' theme, just 5 or 6 pages so far, and have not yet added any multimedia content. However, it seemed to take ages to upload it when I published it to .Mac. So then I went to view it, and it was soooo sloooow to download each page, even on my 4mb cable connection. I know it's a fairly graphically-rich theme, but still!
I noticed that it was redrawing the navigation menu each time... and upon close inspection of the HTML code using Safari's 'View Source' to my horror I found out that that each page has a seperate '_files' folder that contains multiple versions of files that are also used in other pages - including navigation buttons and background images. I also saw that every element has styling applied to it 'inline' in the code, rather than in a single seperate style-sheet.
To confirm this I published it to a folder on my hard drive and checked it all out. What a mess!
As a WYSIWYG web page editor iWeb is great but it's an undisputable fact that the HTML markup and CSS code it produces is absolutely appaling. What's worse though is that it also renders whole swaithes of text as images and that it does create seperate folders for each pages content including images, CSS code and navigation buttons - so even though the same images and code are used throughout the site for the background and buttons and layout, they are written out as seperate files and have to be reloaded with every page!!!
This means that the .Mac server must be getting hammered and webpages are very slow to download and slow to render in Safari - it's almost like dialup when I'm viewing my iWebsite, and like I said, I've got a 4mb cable connection!
Looking at the code iWeb produces, it is good to see that tables are not used for layout, and that's one thing in its favour. But surely the whole point of providing 'themed' templates for users is that the same content is used across the site and therefore doesn't need to be created multiple times - one of the benefits of using CSS stylesheets. Why doesn't iWeb create a single stylesheet and make efficient use of repeated images instead of creating multiple instances of the same file for each page?
Perhaps there is a setting somewhere I've missed. If so, let me know someone!
It is a great WYSIWYG editor, but behind the scenes it's not efficient, it's not clean and simple and it's certainly not attractive - and I'm surprised at that coming from Apple! I know iWeb is a great tool for beginners and I'm a picky professional, but if I was Joe Public First Time Web Designer I'd be very annoyed by this.
Clean it up and sort it out Mr Jobs!
PS: Also, where does iWeb store the website whilst it's in production? I can't find it anywhere?

Your iWeb Site is stored not on your iDisk, but on a file named Domain.sites in your ~/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ Folder.
If , for whatever reason, you wipe your HD and/or lose this file (Get a new computer, Re-Install your OS, Stolen Laptop, Crashed HD, Etc.) without backing-up your Domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your iWeb sites from scratch again.
Of course you can edit your Published HTML files in a different program such as Dreamweaver or even Text Edit. You just can't edit Published HTML files in iWeb. Not at this time at least.
Use iWebBackup to backup your Domain file to a Blank CD or DVD. Backing up your Domain file to another folder on your computer is not fully backing it up. If your computer gets stolen you still lost the file but if you have your Domain file burned onto a CD you have a backup!
    Download iWebBackup Here
You can use iWebExtender to automatically consolidate your files into one folder and delete multiple images.

  • How can I use iweb 1.1.2 for more than one user account on my macbook?

I wonder if someone can guide me or point me to a previous answer on this, since I haven't found one. I'm simply trying to use iweb 1.1.2 on two user accounts (both labled as administrators) on our macbook. The program functions fine on one account, but when I switch over to another user account on the computer iweb will open, but does not let me start a new page, save, etc.
    Thanks much for any response.

Welcome to the discussions. If iWeb's menus are greyed out, the following trick has worked for some:
In the user account which does not let you start a new page, save, etc. — Quit iWeb. Start iPhoto. Select a couple of photos, click on the iWeb icon at lower right and choose Photo Page. iWeb will open up and invite you to choose a template for your new Photos page. Choose any template so that the page is created and then delete that newly created page.
...Now perhaps things are no longer greyed out in iWeb.

  • How do I use a frameset to another website within my iweb site?

I am trying to figure out how to use frameset to view my online booking site within my site that I have created on iWeb. right now I just refer to a link but I would like to be abel to use the frameset to do it. I do have this code but not sure what to do with it.

    <frame src="mainframe.html" name="mainFrame" frameborder="0">
    <noframes>
    <body>
    I would appreciate any advice

A Frameset is a separate, non-iWeb, webpage with the code you show.
The upperframe.html and lowerframe.html are urls to whatever page you want to display.
What you probably want is an <iframe>. You use it to display an external page within an iWeb page.
    The code is :
    <iframe src="http://url.to.file.html" frameborder="0" width="500" height="500" scrolling="no" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>
You paste the code in the HTML Snippet. You have to change the width and height to reflect your situation.
Note that an <iframe> is static. It does not change when the page it displays changs in width or height. To scroll set scrolling to yes.
    Sample iWeb page with <iframe> : http://www.wyodor.net/iFrame/
