TS2401 Remote Desktop 3.6.1 Doesn't connect to Control screen..but able to copy files

I am trying out Remote Desktop 3.6.1, It connect some time but most of time it gets stuck on "Connecting to "computername" " and also give error message to check remote management setting which is turned on. On Remote Desktop program , i can see the computer currentstatus: Available, and see current Application running on that computer  and also able to copy files to that computer. The problem is not able to control, observe or curtain remote computer screen.
Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks

If it's not working at all, the first thing to check is to make sure that port 5900 is open on the path between your admin system and the client, and that it's forwarded if necessary to the client's IP address. If it's working erratically, then you may have network problems or the client's IP address is shifting due to DHCP lease expiration or the system being restarted.
Without more details about your network between the admin system and client it's difficult to offer much more in the way of advice, but perhaps that will help.
Regards.

  • Remote Desktop scroll bar on Window snap to top of screen issue

I have an external monitor attached to my laptop and it has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200. My laptop screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080.
I create remote desktop connection files for connecting to a number of internal servers. When I create them , I set the display resolution to 1920 x 1080. This means that I can snap it to the top of my laptop screen and it will go full screen, or I can snap
it to my external monitor, and it will pseudo full screen (has no side borders, but has a window title), but will leave a small gap at the bottom so I can access my taskbar (which extends across multiple screens thanks to DisplayFusion)
However, recently instead of going into this pseudo full screen, it no opens at 1920x1080, but has vertical and horizontal scroll bars.
Running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and the Remote desktop versions are Shell version 6.3.9600, Control version 6.3.9600, Remote Desktop Protocol 8.1 supported.
Does anyone know why this would have start doing this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply Alex.
I'm not sure what you mean by configured the screen resolution of my 1920x1080 monitor? The resolution of both screens have been set : The one on my laptop is 1920x1080, and the external monitor is 1920x1200.
My remote desktop session resolution is set to 1920x1080, and if I drag it to my laptop monitor it makes it full screen, exactly as I want.
If I drag the remote desktop session to my external monitor, I would expect it to snap to the top of my screen, filling the width, but leaving some space at the bottom. This is how it used to behave, but recently, it has started to show scroll bars.
There are no remote desktop policies related to resolution settings.Karl

  • Windows Components/remote desktop services/remote desktop session host/profile doesn't appear to be working on 2008R2 boxes

I have two domains.   One is an account domain with a one way trust with the resource domain.   Resource domain trusts the account domain and has a number of 2008R2 servers running within.  I am experiencing severe logon delays
due to these servers being unable to access the server that hosts the user home folder specified directly on the user account profile tab from the account domain.   When using my workstation in the actual account domain (corporate) I have no
    problems.
Because of these network restrictions,  I need to override the 2008R2's desire to access that user home folder location in the account domain.
So far the best thing I have found to try is Windows Components/remote desktop services/remote desktop session host/profile/Set Remote Desktop User Home Directory
The problem is that so far I have tried to configure this to point to both a local folder as well as a network path and it doesn't appear to be doing anything.   Not seeing any errors in the app or system log either.
It is still trying to map the path in the account domain.
    Any ideas?
Is there a better way to accomplish my goal?   The servers in the resource domain will be Citrix servers and there will be a lot of users connecting from the account domain.
I tried this setting too,  but it only seems to work on the 2012 machines in my Resource domain.
With the introduction of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 there is now a new group policy setting called “Set user home folder” and is found under Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > User Profiles
    Help!

    Hi,
This might be due to permission problems. Please check whether the user accounts for whose home folder to be redirected have permissions in the shared folder specified in the server.

  • Remote Desktop on the OS Mac during connection to the Windows 8.1 PC returns a warning "End of file" and quits

I start the Microsoft Remote Desktop app on the MAC.  A verify Certificate comes up - I click continue.  An alert pops up "End of file".  I have allowed remote access on the Windows 8.1 PC.  I have also allowed the Remote Desktop
    to work through the firewall.
I have the correct default gateway ipv4 address.  I believe I would not get to the verify Certificate window if not.  What am I missing?

    Hi,
I notice that you mentioned the correct default gateway ipv4 address. Please let us know why and how you use this IP address.
In the settings of the remote desktop client App, the gateway refers to the Remote desktop gateway, not the default gateway.
In other word, if you do not have a RD gateway, just leave the setting blank.
If issue persists, please provide us log file for further research.

  • Remote Desktop 3.3 update breaks SSH connectivity

Since updating to Remote Desktop Admin 3.3, I am no longer able to use ARD over a SSH tunnel.
This is a serious bug - especially since there is no easy way to rollback to the previous version.
I would strongly recommend against running this update if you ever need to work in this way.

This is since the screen sharing port was set to 5900 in the update. Changed it to my desired port and all is well!

  • If I can connect using remote desktop, does it mean I can connect using ftp?

Hello everyone, I have a question about connection using ftp.
Normally when I want to connect through ftp, everything is provided such as the ftp name and username and password by my hosting service. But now I don't have all these details about a local server in my company office because the server is actually not hosting
any sites. It's just a server where documents are stored.
But I need a way to connect to this server through my web application.
    All I know are:
It is possible to connect through remote desktop to that server
There is an ip address for that server ( The server machine is in my company office)
I have a username and password that allows me to access network drive on that server (I can do this only by directly plugging the cat5 cable to my laptop)
When I configure my outlook email using microsoft exchange server, this is how my settings look like (example.net.au is just for example sake):
    Server: server1.example.net.au
    User name: [email protected]
Does the ftp detail exist for this server? How do I find out?

Thanks for the reply, Dave. The problem is the admin is not working here anymore. I wonder if there is a way i could figure that out. Out of curiosity how do ftp details created? If I want to set up FTP details from scratch, what do I need?
    Thanks
you need to ask anyone from your company who is familiar in your IT infrastructure.
starting FTP from scratch, is okay but security is one thing.
you might end up an FTP server that is free or open to the internet, make sure you exactly know what you are doing.
even though there's a lot of guide on the internet, make sure also you understand what you are following in the guide.
Please check with someone who is quite familiar on this kind of things.

  • MS Remote Desktop and smart card reader

I have installed MS Remote Desktop Conn. on my iMac and connected a smart card reader via the USB. Although my reader energizes when the computer is on, the computer doesn't seem to recognize the reader. When I insert a CAC card into the reader and try to log in remotely, I continue to get a "username/password" box instead of the CAC PIN number. Do I need to install some kind of smart card driver or does Apple already have it? I'm at a loss as to how to fix this.

I was able to get rdesktop 1.6.0 to install on my Mac and I was able to get CAC log-in to work.
However, the installation is a little tricky. I downloaded rdesktop 1.6.0 from this link:
    My instructions for installation:
    1. Make sure Xcode Tools is installed on your computer. It should be on your OS X install disk.
    2. Find out where your X11 libraries are located:
-From the Finder menu, selct "Go" >> "Go to Folder..."
-Type (without the quotes) "/usr/X11", and click "Go"
You should see a bunch of folders. Make sure the "include" and "lib" folders are there. Otherwise you need to find out where the X11 "include" and "lib" folders are located on your computer.
    3. Download rdesktop and place the (unarchived) rdesktop-1.6.0 folder on your Desktop
    4. Open the X11 application (should be in your Utilities folder)
    5. In the X11 window type the following (without the quotes):
    "cd Desktop/rdesktop-1.6.0 && ./configure --enable-smartcard -x-includes=/usr/X11/include -x-libraries=/usr/X11/lib && make && sudo make install"
    4. Hit enter. When prompted, enter your administrator password and hit enter.
rdesktop should now be installed in the following folder:
    /usr/local/bin
So, to launch rdesktop with smartcard log in enabled, open the X11 application (or Terminal application) and type the following (without the quotes, and replace your.server.address with the server address):
    "cd /usr/local/bin && ./rdesktop -r scard your.server.address"
Hit enter and it should launch a new X11 window that will try to access the remote server where you should be prompted for your PIN.
To explore more options with rdesktop, open X11 and type the following (without quotes):
    "cd /usr/local/bin && ./rdesktop"
Hit enter and you should get a list of options available to rdesktop.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Mouse Slow with Windows 2012

    Hello:
I am connecting to a customer site with Citrix and using Citrix's Remote Desktop. I know this may be a Citrix issue but not sure. Customer isn't helping so thought I would check here.
I have two connections to computers in their network with Remote Desktop. One is to a Windows 2003 Server which works fine. When I connect to Windows 2012 the mouse is slow. I tried adjusting the mouse settings but it doesn't help.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it an issue specific to Citrix or to Remote Desktop in general?
    Thanks,

  • Using Remote Desktop - Windows RT 8.1

    Hello,
I was directed here from the Microsoft Answers community site about my issue regarding Remote Desktop on my Surface 2 RT.
I am trying to connect my Surface 2 to my Windows 8.1 Pro desktop (it has Media Center on it as well).
The problem that keeps surfacing on the Surface 2 is the credentials. I have checked time and time again to make sure my credentials were correct every time I try to get Remote Desktop on the Surface 2 to connect to the Windows 8.1 Pro desktop - it says
my credentials did not work. Both machines are connected to my Microsoft account, and both machines use my Microsoft credentials to log in as well as sync.
I have used the Incoming Connections troubleshooter on the Windows 8.1 Pro desktop, it didn't raise any issues regarding my network connection (both the Win8.1 machine and the Surface 2 are on the same network).
If I understood the FAQ correctly, I can connect my Surface 2 RT 8.1 to a computer running Windows 8.1 Pro (but not vice versa) using Remote Desktop.
So what underlying issue could there be?

Are you able to RDP into the desktop with another machine? Is it only the Surface RT that doesn't work?

  • Remote desktop (MAC) app freezes after a sleep/scree-timeout

    Hello,
My company needs the Remote Resource Connection -> Remote Desktop Client to be used to connect to Windows (7) desktops over the Internet. The connection is through duo-authentication and once connected all works fine. Highly recommending the Microsoft
    Remote Desktop for MAC therefore.
One small annoying glitch I found was when the MAC goes to sleep or screen shuts off (This happens about in a minute to save battery). Once the screen awakes, the Remote Desktop doesn't seem to be able to restore it state. What I notice is that the screen
for Remote Desktop is Frozen. MAC is not frozen, its healthy and all the rest of the apps seem to work fine, just this Remote Desktop app isn't. I will have to either kill the process from the command line (terminal) or just exit the Remote Desktop app (well,
its not frozen, the menus work fine) and restart the process of logging in.
Any advise to fix this issue? Or is this a bug and needs fixing? Please ask if you need further from me.
    Thanks
    Madu

    Hi,
Would you please provide us the log file after you reproduce the issue. Also, please give us the timestamp you put your Mac to Sleep.

  • Remote desktop no longer connects after installing Photoshop CS3

    Hi,
Last week I downloaded and installed the Photoshop CS 3 extended trial on a PC that I regularly connect to via remote desktop. After Photoshop had finished installing, I could no longer connect to that machine (Its running Windows XP SP3) through remote desktop.
Searching on this issue has quickly brought up the fact that CS3 installs Apple's Bonjour service and that has been known to cause connectivity problems for other users. I removed Bonjour by following the guide here (http://www.x64bit.net/site/board/index.php?s=888c3f3673c453dcc972decd6e67e8e0&showtopic= 4214&st=0&p=40719&#entry40719) and reset the Winsock catalog (netsh winsock reset).
Unfortunately I still am unable to connect to that machine with remote desktop. These two machines are connected through a gigabit switch (nothing tricky at all) and it had been working flawlessly until I installed Photoshop CS3. Now when i enter the computer name in the remote desktop connection box and click "Connect", it shows activity (the colored bar moves) and then the connect button returns to its default state and nothing happens. No error messages or anything.
I have searched Apple's forums and found users on various message boards report this same issue, but none seem to have a resolution (aside from re-installing the OS, which doesn't resolve anything if you end up re-installing CS3). Is anyone familiar with this issue and found a solution? If so, I would love to hear it!
    Thanks!

I have the same exact issue right now. We purchased CS3 Master Collection and some - not all - of the machines are now refusing a RDP session. I looked in to the Bonjour service problem but it doesnt seem to be the issue. Other machines with the same service work fine.
    Anyone have an idea?
Has Adobe addressed this at all. I am aware that more than just the two of us have experienced this issue.

  • Using Aperture via Remote Desktop

    Hi everyone,
I'll post this message in both the Aperture and Remote Desktop discussions.
I work for a photographer who's looking at doing some high volume shoots overseas. Budget doesn't allow me to travel with him so I want to find out how easy it would be for me to process images in Aperture via the internet and Remote Desktop.
Am I correct in thinking that once setup, and with both computers hooked up to a broadband internet connection, I'd be able to connect to his laptop and begin working with Aperture fairly easily? Sure, he'd need to import the images, but once that was done it'd be business as usual, right?
    Thanks for your replies,
    Andrew

    Andrew
I often use remote connections (either Mac to Mac using "Back To My Mac" or Mac to PC using Microsoft's "Remote Desktop Connection") but my experience is that these services are not 100% dependable...
I usually use remote desktop solutions between my 2 DSL connections, 1 at home and 1 in my studio. The smallest pipe I have either way is 4Mbps for my studio upload pipe (even this is not too shabby) but even though I control both ends of the connection I still cannot guarantee that the service is going to work. One day it does and the next it doesn't (or doesn't do so reliably)!
If the photographer for whom you work is going to be in public locations or locations where he does not have access to router settings (e.g. to ensure NAT is enabled) I think the safest assumption to make is that you should not rely on a remote desktop connection to be available.
As a professional photographer myself, I realise this may affect your workflow but assuming you both have broadband speeds it is probably better to share projects via a dropbox solution such as iDisk on MobileMe or DropBox...
    best

  • MS Remote Desktop crashes Mac OS X when trying to add a certificate

As written in the headline, when trying to permanently add a certificate, the window where I am supposed to enter my password produces the rainbow wheel of doom.
    Steps to reproduce:
    - Open MS Remote Desktop 8.0.8 (Build 25010)
    - Connect to a server
    - in "verify certificate", press "show certificate", then tick "always trust...."
    - click "continue"
    - password window opens, Mac crashes.
    Steps to avoid the crashing:
    - instead of "show certificate", just press "continue" - it works fine, it just doesn't store the certificate.

    Hi,
The version 8.0.9 is released, please try the latest one and see how it works.
