and Jump up and down on one foot while touching your tongue to your nose and hold one arm straight up in the air and wave it like an idiot!!! Are you kidding me! Apple released a broken iTunes and did not fully check it out.
The problem started with the latest iTunes 10.7:
iTunes could not back up the iPhone because a session could not be started with the iPhone.
Apple is no different than Microsoft or any other company. They make mistakes.
Ok Apple it's broke, now fix it!

Hi,
well this step
4) delete the ASMLIB disks (oracleasm deletedisk XYZ) relate to such diskgroups
is not good. Because it will clear the ASM Header and as a result ASM will never again be able to detect the disks.
So it is clear that "scnadisks" later will not see the disks, because you wiped them.
Worse: You did the snapshot after deleting them... this gets tricky to get them "repaired" again.
However there is the possibility to relabel a dropped ASM disks. You need to open an SR for this, since the procedure to restore the lost ASM header is not that simple..

Sebastian

My Time machine won't back up. Recently updated to OS x 10.7.5. Error message is as follows: "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Time Machine Backup/Scott’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use." What is wrong and how do I fix it? Thanks.
Have you tried restarting the computer? Also, see Time Machine Error from this pages sidebar under More Like This.

Time Capsule error 22 - My time capsule was working fine and didn't notice anything wrong with it until it stopped backing up about two weeks ago. I never changed anything like computer names or the Airport settings. All I get is the following:
The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/Linda's Computer 1.sparsebundle" could not be created (error 22).
I tried resetting the Time Capsule and connecting with an ethernet cable, although the Ariport Utility says everything is working fine through WiFi.If the light will not turn on the TC is dead. No matter that the hard disk is running.. it should only run at start up or when it is accessed not constantly.. that means the board in the TC has failed. Apple do not repair them.. They will replace it under warranty or applecare.
If you have gone over the 12month warranty it will still be covered if you have applecare on any computer or an Apple TV. In fact the cost of the apple TV plus apple care is still cheaper than buying a new TC.. so it is a route some people are taking.. certainly depends.. in some places like Europe or Australia now, there is a recognition that statutory warranty must be longer on a product that is premium to the market. 12months is not good enough. Apple will sometimes listen.
They might be fixable but I do not know how. -
What if my error message is the following: The backup disk image “/Volumes/********'s Time Capsul/****’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use. (I have redacted the name of the computer with asterixes)
This is a complex procedure.
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a minute or two
Plug the power cord back in to the back of the Time Capsule
This will fix the issue 98% of the time. If you are in the unlucky 2% category, more help is here from Pondini, the Time Machine guru:
The Backup disk image ... sparsebundle ... is already in use. -
I have recently updated to ios6. But safari browser is very slow ,even twitter, Facebook also facing the same problem also cannot accsess to some websites too.
Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
Quit all apps completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or .... Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
For Safari ..... Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. -
since update ios 7 my iphone 4 has been giving me trouble. sometimes will not respond to touch, is very slow when texting, and battery runs down very quickly when not in use and all apps are closed, has anyone had the same problem
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

I understand all of this Meg; that is why I bought an Iphone; but never expected my phone not even give a at least a 24 or even 12 hours....I work 12 hour shifts and also would expect to have to charge each night but not twice a day or more. I am not always somewhere I can charge my phone.
Your points are true; however it doesn't help me...... -
I'm trying to get my old bookmarks installed with Firefox on a drive holding Win xp to Firfox installed on a different drive holding Win 7. I followed the backup and restore process in the Firefox help file but it doesn't work. Help will be appreciated because I have a slew of bookmarks that I would like to use with Win 7.
If you need to merge bookmarks then you need to export the bookmarks to an HTML file and import that file on the other computer.
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Export HTML
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML : "From File"

The auto backup to my time machine has developed a glitch which prevents the backing up of the iMac. The message is as follows:
'The backup disk image "/volumes/data/Name iMac(7).sparsebundle" is already in use.
Any ideas on how to fix.Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Restart the iMac and Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this should solve that problem. If it doesn't work, read > http://pondini.org/TM/C12.html -

Can't get past the backup step
I'd so love to upgrade to Tiger. I can't archive and install because I have too much data on my hard drive. I want to erase, install and reinstall my User folders. I need to know my best option at this point.
At first I backed up using Retrospect when I realized the Panther version won't work on Tiger.
Now I'm trying to backup /Users manually to an external firewire drive using the Apple instructions on the Tiger preparation and installation page. The copying gets to old documents created in MS Word whereupon the finder tells me there's a problem with the file name and aborts the copying. The file names contain / in dates. Is there a way to batch process the file names to make them compatible?
Or should I use a different backup or installation approach?
Thanks for any advice.I solved the backup problem. The key was the firmware and formatting of the external hard drive-- I'm not sure which. Since my drive is one of the group affected by the so-called Panther firewire bug and since it was formatted for another operating system, I both updated the firmware and reformatted, which resolved the backup problems.

Using the 'backup playlist' facility in iTunes
Prior to discovering the above facility, I used to copy each mp3 file into a folder on my desktop and then burning a CD. Using the above is much easier but it also backs up the podcasts that happen to be in iTunes at the time. Is there any way to exclude podcasts when executing the backup?
Also, can I use the 'backup' to load my laptop?Using the 'backup playlist' facility in iTunes
Note that it's Backup - iTunes library (music, videos, podcast and audiobooks) and playlists (the lists of songs).
If you backup/save a playlist, there is no music saved.
Is there any way to exclude podcasts when executing the backup?
No.
can I use the 'backup' to load my laptop?
Yes. -
I followed the steps to restore to factory settings now I can't get back my info from a prior backup. My pads screen was frozen on the connect to iTunes I needed to restore. I had to setup my pad as if it was new. How do I acess my prior backup
Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes. -

I have an Iphone 5 and it will not connect to any WIFI networks - I have tried following the steps above (including reseting network settings) but it just says 'incorrect password' every time. How can I resolve this?
you have definitely tried the correct steps, all you would need to do now is a back up & restore to factory settings. If after that the issue remains then you would most likely need a replacement unit.
